Check the Cycle World writeup on the new buell..."Buell has finally made a real motorcycle"..the S2 was a failure...theS3 failed as a sport tourer....the S1 was a suppository...all the components were farmed out except engine and tires and the turd STILL costs $12000??? for a sluggish enduro? Gimme a break, What about the FAITHFUL, HARDCORE owners who stood by your crappy bikes from the beginning? No parts, NO dealer support...kiss my rosy red . |

I hope Erik said nothing of the sort! My XB is not without it's picadillos but a "failed experiment"? I hope not! |

CW didn't say that. The closest it came to it was in David Edward's editor's note, who ragged on the problems of some previous Buells only to conclude that the Ulysses "is a very good motorcycle" So he didn't say that. Erik said nothing of the sort. He likes the Ulysses, but I think he's proudest of the first XB9R. That was the closest he's come to building the sport bike of his ideals -- to date. And he'll still defend the Dunlop tire selection for it, though he's decided that there aren't enough Shawn Higbees out there to fully appreciate them. |

sh*t...'scuse, me...custodians- how about a thread title change (before everyone who peruses the thread titles gets an unconscious, albeit erroneous "fact" going that Erik Buell bashes his bikes) and maybe a reminder to posters NOT to post threads with hearst-ian titles |

That was a blatant troll, it's easy to take things out of context and print them isn't it |

"And he'll still defend the Dunlop tire selection for it, though he's decided that there aren't enough Shawn Higbees out there to fully appreciate them." EXACTLY!!! When I was using them I realized that If for some strange and wonderous reason I found myself utilizing exagerated but proper form (hanging WAY off compared to what I normally do) they worked pretty well on dry pavement. The rear got a little slippery once warmed up, but not greasy and I considered it a feature. They still didn't work so good in the wet though and that was the main reason I swapped them to Metzelers. The times that I didn't like the Dunlop's where when I was just trying to go at a moderately fast pace... One that didn't require hanging off at all. For those speeds, the bike did handle a little funny with it's stand up tendency under braking and the fact that it needed quite a bit of pressure on the inside bar to maintian lean angle. Once hanging off and locked on though... Not too bad except in the wet. I also found that the more I moved forward the better things got... |

I've noticed the very same thing. Long sweepers, hanging off (almost to the point of sitting "next" to the bike ), tracks very nicely. And the leaning forward too. Things just don't feel as good or even right when riding in a relaxed upright position. It wants to be "talked" to. |

Agreed... It's just that sometimes (most times on the street) I want a relaxed but spirited pace. High lean angle w/o hanging off. Leaning to where the edge of my foot scrapes with my heel on the peg. The D207's don't like that. I think MOST people ride that way. I do too most of the time... That's one thing about the XB... It very much promotes proper form. Everything just falls into place when you do the right things. I think that's what "Bike" magazine meant when they said that it "keeps you engaged". |

WOW!Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean to offend any stubborn buellers like myself! I love the tubers, heck when I first saw an S2 roll by me in '95 I knew I had to have one . A downshift later he was on the side of the road with a broken motor mount so I got to see the bike.(factory test guy) I STILL bought one, and have been treated like crap at every dealership I was forced to beg to work on it. Like all of you, I'm a hard-... who does not take defeat so I learned to rebuild every inch of the thing, meeting GREAT people on the journey. Heck, I have "buellers elbow" on both arms and am physically disfigured from riding and crashing the thing. I have always had problems with warranty, parts, dealers.....maybe it's the region I'm in.After the last crash and two total knee replacements, I can't ride old Lucifer anymore and I get a little sentimental when another model comes out and my history, the homecomings, the handshakes with the factory guys, and my BELOVED S3 gets a little dustier and faded.....my apologies gentlemen |

the "S2 failure" comment was from the article, not me.....musta been CW talking..pissed me off and I threw it out.....anyone checked the trade in book value on their sleds lately???? Just curious how it costs $6000 to rebuild the engine on a $4200 bike. NO OFFENSE, REALLY GUYS, count to 10 before you answer. |

Book value doesn't reall indicate anything but demand. Look at how cheap you can get a Caviler, but they are really long lived cars, (IMO, have had 4, all cost under $2500 together, and saw over 100,000 miles together.). Wasn't jumping on you,,just posting my thought on the S2 being a failure,.Remember, Harley bought Buell. I mean come on, If the mothership thinks that Buell is worth it, they must be, right? |
