He must have been yet another "recylced" Holiday Rambler RV salesman. We had one around here a few years ago that didn't even have a motorcycle endorsement on his license. The word from Juneau street is that the job is about sales, not about motorcycles, and especially not about customer (that's us) service.  First off, I will be at the dealer meeting. I will keep you and other Buell boards updated. I'll have a digital camera and laptop. Stay tuned! I was there when Dyna talked to the Buell rep. I've known him for some time, he used to be our rep. I am planning, based on his statements and a chat with Erik, to place orders for several race kits for the Firebolt at the show. How many of you guys want one? I'll need to order enough. I'll be at what they call a townhall meeting on Monday the 15th. This is where I hope to air some comments/concerns and in all fairness a few pats on the back. I'm also going to try and change a few things. 1st thing I want to change is how the Dealer Advisory Council is set up. Right now it is only(I believe) dealer principals on this board. I doubt many of these people actually sell the bikes and deal with the customers. I want a seat on this board. Wish me luck, I'm sure that many dealers will look at me like I'm the anti-Christ, some might realize I'm right. Whatever, I have the support of my boss. I just think that the Buell salespeople would have a better perpective on the REAL WORLD than the dealer themselves. This is not a slam on them, it's just the way it is. Nope they filled all the spots the owners Best friend's dieing wish is to go to a dealer meeting (not sure if he is dieing but there will be plenty of dealer meetings) plus i am in charge of the Rider's Edge program and Rentals so my plate is full enough plus.. they need managers there. | ||

MOTORCYCLE CRUISER magazine April 2000 page 18, Cruise News Rumored & Reveled Quote: EMISSIONS REGS WILL BRING NEW HARLEYS Our cousins across the Atlantic at Britain’s Motor Cycle News (www.motorcyclenews.com) report that Harley Davidson, working in conjunction with supercar-builder Porsche, is testing a liquid-cooled V-Twin in Germany. Liquid-cooling is regarded as inevitable for most large-displacement motorcycles because of tightening exhaust and noise emissions laws around the world. Because liquid-cooling permits an engine to run at more even temperatures, it is easier to keep carburetion consistent and eliminate the exhaust emissions that go with mixture variations. Water jackets also serve to insulate cylinders and deaden mechanical noises. They can be used with cooling fins, of course, though the fins must be designed carefully so they don’t harmonize or amplify mechanical noises. The new liquid-cooled engines are rumored to first appear on a replacement for the Sportster engine family. MCN predicts this early as 2002, which would give the company time to iron out the bugs before 2006, when tougher European emissions standards go into effect. They may not be sold here for another couple of years after that. Big twins would follow by 2003, when the firm celebrates its 100th anniversary. This has led to speculation that any new engine will displace 100 cubic inches. The improved engines could be as little changed as new liquid-cooled top ends on the current TC88 designs, or they could be entirely new. Even overhead cams (which might further reduce mechanical noise) have been rumored. We expect to see more changes for the Sportster family than the big twins. Though Harley riders may have trouble getting used to the non-traditional radiators (which could be hidden under the engine or tank or in the back of the frame), we suspect that they will like the tighter engines that will presumably develop. "Piss the consumer off and you lose not only them but their friends as well.... " This concept has already cost one specific insurance company more than they would have paid had they played with a higher level of integrity. Instead, they chose the low road and have now lost customers, future business, and it will only continue to cost them more. I may not recover what I'm due, but it will cost them many times more than it would have if they'd only played ethical and fair. Disturbance in the Force! OK Dave, When you get to the meeting, can you convey something for me? A little background -- I've got a brother, he's 50+ and sort of a Harley type:  Talked to him this past Saturday and he says he has a surprise to show me. I suspect maybe some chrome turbo/super charger or maybe another land yacht. So we end up meeting at the race on Sunday. So here's the surprise:   OK, so he's got his little brain bucket there in the 1st RSV pic (which I'll have to work on), but the point is, had Buell or H-D produced a product near to what he bought, I'm sure he'd have gone in that direction. what to convey? Plenty of H-D apparrel walking around in downtown Milwaukee last night, including lots of international accents. Should be plenty going on in downtown this weekend with the Greater Milwaukee Open(PGA), the great Circus Parade on Sunday, the Harley Dealer show, and Mama Mia playing at the Performing Arts Center. Too bad Brew City Brag is going camping this weekend. Where exactly is the dealer show being held at in Milwaukee. Midwest Express Center? or somewhere else? Could be they're waiting on existing showroom stock to clear out more before releasing a newer model/configuration. Could be they wanted direct face-to-face contact with the dealers before releasing new info. Could be the potential additional new or updated model information is being held back as a grand finale presentation at the end of the dealer's meeting, which is when, Tuesday? Could be I know nothing. Yep, that's it, I know nothing. Ignore history, for there is nothing there to foretell what may come to pass in the future, uh huh, yeah, sure. | ||

I saw nothing new this morning at my dealer. They handed me the brand new parts catalog & except for some new paint schemes & emblems nothing new. No new bikes or anything. Although they are coming out with the V-Rod in 2 colors now. Theres as black & silver combo, then they have a Red one which looks great, much better than the all silver deal. The only new part I saw for Harley that I wanted is a new in dash combo speedometer & tach for the Dynas. Very cool, although at $419 a bit pricey. The people who were at the show said no new bikes, no secret unveilings, no nothing. I kinda expected something more for the 100yr anniversary. | ||

I remember reading somewhere (maybe even the H-D website) that there was nothing new coming for the 100th. Just some new paint schemes. I thought they were trying to defuse the rumor mill but it doesn't sound that way. Maybe they should have waited a year with the V-Rod? | ||

It may just be me and my crazy business mind...... but, if i could do "nothing" but repaint my already in heavy demand bikes, run a 14 month production year to meet more (they can't meet all) of the demand and had folks lined up offering $3,000 - $10,000 premiums for a "100th year model" . . know how far out on the "new and improved" limb I'd go... Right, about 1". | ||

I ordered my 2003 HD in May 1994 not knowing what would be available and I am proud to say that I have ordered a Silver/Black RoadKing Classic to be delivered in June/July 2003. | ||

Today is the big day for the Dealer show. The new models pictured on the HD & Buell web sites kind of took the suspence out of this thread but I'm anxious to hear reports from the show. I'm still holding out for XB based sport tour bike with a 240 hp, 1200cc, water cooled V-4 and optional hard bags.  | ||

I still think there's more to come. Go ahead Court, that branch looks strong, turn that 1" into 1', be bold. Along those lines,... I recall that the H-D Historian was really looking at the "first" Harley in the lobby of the Juneau Ave. plant a year or two ago and they discovered it was not the number of production they thought it was. They were also looking at dimensions and finite details of it. It almost sounded as if they were reverse engineering it. Those reports reminded me of the Ford Model-A that was re-introduced by Ford a few years ago, using the original body tooling, and updating the running gear some. This got me to thinking of the 100th anniversary of H-D. This got me to speculating about a re-introduction of the 1903 H-D with some relatively minor updates (kevlar belt in tan instead of a leather final drive belt, bearings instead of bushings, so forth...). Maybe an extreamly limited production run of 100 bikes, or maybe a run of 10,000. I still think there's more to come, I'll just wait and see. All I do know is when I see an old board-track racer, I want one. And, yes, if it was street legal I'd ride it on the road instead of parking it in a corner of my room. Okay, I'm done, for now.  | ||

Ray, Take a look at the August 2002 American Rider magazine. The cover and feature article is the Nova 60 degree V-4 Harley with a water cooling radiator under the seat. 10,000 rpm red line. They also had V-2 and V-6 versions of the motor. Up to 135HP. Porsche designed the motors and transmission. If they would have introduced that model, the 20th anniversary version of it would have been way cool. And we wouldn't be upset with the underpowered Firebolt today. Jim X-2.5 |
