I'm running 6" round galvanized duct from a range hood. I'm punching it through the wall in a place where it will be visible, and would like to "trim" the hole around the duct. I'm thinking there ought to be some sort of plastic collar I can slip around the duct and push up against the wall to hide the cut. I got a good fit, but still. If you can imagine I'm thinking like the trim collars you use for plumbing pipe, where they enter/exit a wall in a visible location. They have a fancy "echouton" (sp?) name that escapes me. However, I can't seem to find anything that'd do this for me with 6" duct. Any good suggestions? Thanks Henrik | ||

Try the collars used on woodstove pipe. The come in all type of material, brass, plastic, etc. Should be able to find them anywhere wood heaters are sold. Rob | ||

Henrik, You should really do something to form a water-tight seal where the duct exits the wall. (I just went to a day-long class on moisture/humidity problems in buildings yesterday). Water getting in the wall will cause all sorts of problems. I think this is what you're looking for:  You can buy one here: http://www.farreys.com/ventilation/exhaust_vent_fans/nutone_accessory_ducting.html This will seal off your hole in the wall around your duct (provided you install it correctly) and take care of the outlet at the same time. Rek; thanks I'll look at woodstove pipe. That hadn't crossed my mind. Hugh; Thanks, but I'm looking for inside trim. What you're describing is exactly what I installed. I siliconed the rim of the cap to the wall and secured the cap with 6 screws and then finished the caulking around the cap. Then, from the inside, I sprayed "Great Stuff" expanding foam in around the pipe stub in the wall. Now I'm running duct across the wall in the kitchen to get the range hood vented to the outside. It's where that exposed duct connecs to the wall cap stub, going through the sheetrock wall, I need to trim. Thanks again both Henrik | ||

Newfie; right you are .... provided the staff at Home D knew anything about the stuff they sold - or even cared a fraction ... however, the fact that my local Home D's (yes, plural) has been out of 6" duct for more than 4 months speaks volumes  Henrik | ||

Henrik, The word you were looking for was "escutcheon" (plate or ring). I searched but can't find anything in 6" size. They probably do exist; you might find one at a large commercial plumbing supply house. The woodstove ring seems to be the best bet. I'm not having any luck finding any other 6" trim rings. Of course I've found a bunch of official documents where such rings/plates are required where a 6" duct goes through a wall ... you'd think someone would be selling them  Thanks all for your help. Hey Henrik, Back here in the land of Wood Stoves, Ice Bergs and Whales they are at every general store out near my summer house. You can even get them with fancy little imprints at some places. They come in 6 and 7 inch diameters usually finished in flat black. If you can't find one let me know and I'll pick one up. Some Newfie Wood Stove Humor          | ||
