Been lurking off and on for some time and thought I should introduce myself. I'm a soon to be 50 dad, 4 boys, 24, 21,20 and 6. When I found out the bonus boy was coming, I bought my first bike, an 83 Yami Maxim 400. In 99, I bought a used Sportster while waiting for a BT order to be filled. Enjoyed the Sportster so much, I canceled the BT order. She now has 55,000 miles on her. Unfortunately, the mech who had worked on her talked me out of my insistence that I had an oil pump problem developing. Thus she now sits in the garage with the motor out waiting for my time to free up to put a dial indicator to the crank pin before splitting the cases. Too bad because she was running great with a set of small valve CycleRama heads on her.

I've been jonesin' for a Buell since I rode an R at last year's KC open house. Cramped but I had so much fun I didn't care. Now with the Uly out I am jonesin' for a ride on it as well as the S. Thinking of going to the Buell test rides in St. Louis this weekend.

Anyway, Hi. The 6 yr old keeps me hoppin, so please pardon my staccato style of posting.

Hopefully I can swing another bike sometime soon any maybe hook up for some rides (well just let me know where to catch up as I am a slow old fart.)

Later

hey old bird: best greetings from Homer, Alaska. my sportster sits also shattered the oil pump drive gear at 100 miles per.... shut her down real quick coasted into my open garage.dont think i seized it, motor turns real easy, cams are in good shape. oil pump was locked up and FULL of gear teeth. unfortunately the stock oil pump drive gear will not fit the splined shaft of the S&S crank/flywheel assembly. (Its a stroker, baby) so waiting and looking for a source for the proper drive gear, suspect it is an oem sporty part from a previous iteration, iron head or 4 speed evo??? dont know for sure yet, waiting on the advice of as many experts as possible... non- emergency at this point, i have the XB12 to ride to work, and for errands, etc. just miss the rush of the sportster when i crack the throttle and everything gets all hurried up, vision blurs, tears and snot mix in the helmet, feel and hear the abrupt BRAAAAP of the revlimiter at 7000 in fifth gear, then the near panic of nearly-almost locked front brake, and slamming 3 downshifts trying to get shut down close enough to drag pegs through the gravelly curve fast approaching. why cant i make the buell run like that i always wonder......
so welcome to the badweb. dean

Welcome aboard Old Bird. That's great about your 6 year old. We old farts need somebody to keep us hoppin' (I'm 49).

The demo trailer will give you the chance to demo a bunch of bikes back-to-back. It gives you a much better idea of what you like best as opposed to riding one and a month or two later riding another.

Hope you find one you like!

Thanks for the welcome, guys. I;m impressed by the overall positive attitude of this site and am really thinking of how I can talk my wife into letting me add to the stable. She must be open to the idea. She is telling me to do the test rides on Saturday. That's even our anniversary. Hmmm? I wonder what hasn't shown on the credit card yet?

I'll be sure to take the camera. Maybe this old dinosaur can figure out how to post some pics.

Fullpower, good luck with getting your Sportster running. You might call NHRS. I've talked with them about an S&S lower end for mine. Somebody at Sportster.org might know as well. Glad you didn't lose it at the ton. Would have definitely been nasty. Unfortunately my engine is really trashed, valve stems, lifters, pistons, rockers. Oh well, a chance to add some ponies.

Gotta go play with my 6 yr old. Later.

welcome, ol' boid!
i'm kinda new here, myself.
this place is fun.
the food is great.
everybody treats me well.
(pssst: old dog:
run for your life!
these lunatics won't let me outta here!)
er...ahem...
anyway- that evo sporty you have- the good wrenches of badweb should be able to help you out, as the infamous oil pump drive gear issue
is spoken of aloud, herein.
anyway- keep yer wits and humour about ya.
i wish i did!
