1 Do you find that your head bounces around a lot on the freeway at or above the posted speed limit?
Only when following another vehicle, especially big rigs.

2 Do you wear ear plugs, and is your helmet loud with the plugs in?
Yes, on trips more than 1/2 hour; quiet with the plugs in.

3 Would you like built in speakers in your helmet so you can plug in a helmet or comunications device without alteration?
I would use an MP3 player on longer trips if I had built in speakers and the helmet was quiet.

4 Would a helmet that is in a shape other than the standard full face look turn you away from it or attract you to it?
Attract - different is good, right.

5 Would you like more peripheral vision?
Yes.

1 Do you find that your head bounces around a lot on the freeway at or above the posted speed limit?

above 80 or so (I run a schuberth concept, and th lil spoiler out back seems to help)

2 Do you wear ear plugs, and is your helmet loud with the plugs in?

it's fairly quite, but I do use plugs on long runs

3 Would you like built in speakers in your helmet so you can plug in a helmet or comunications device without alteration?

legal issues here, bud, as other have said -- speakers about about 65 or so doan work so good, but good earbuds do -- if you could get the lid quiet enuff for speakers, that'd be ACES!

4 Would a helmet that is in a shape other than the standard full face look turn you away from it or attract you to it? (nothing drastic just made to be a little more aerodynamic)

depends on how wonky it was, and if it worked -- if it DID work, I'd go fer it (keep in mind, though, that we all need aero in our lids in more than one direction -- don't want my chicken neck snapped when I head-check the trailing traffic, now, do I?

5 Would you like more peripheral vision?

ABSOFREAKINLUTELY -- like grounder sez, side to side and up and down, pleaseandthankyou

removable liner (coolmax is a great idea)) lightweight, HUD (puleeze!) and, like my Schuberth, built-in shades! I wear specs, and having shades at the flip of a lever is wunnerful!

BTW, click the link to see a new helmet with Bluetooth headset. Now the cagers and bikers can be on the phone while driving! Should be outlawed IMO.

HJC CL-12 Shoei RF700

1 Do you find that your head bounces around a lot on the freeway at or above the posted speed limit?

Yes, especially at speed with the HJC. The Shoei buffets much less at comparable speeds.

2 Do you wear ear plugs, and is your helmet loud with the plugs in?

Yes and yes with both helmets, but the HJC is louder. It's the wind noise more than anything else.

3 Would you like built in speakers in your helmet so you can plug in a helmet or comunications device without alteration?

I would not for music, but some form of communication system would be good.

4 Would a helmet that is in a shape other than the standard full face look turn you away from it or attract you to it? (nothing drastic just made to be a little more aerodynamic)

If any shape held real benefit for me, I'd wear it.

5 Would you like more peripheral vision?

I've never felt a need for more, but my vision isn't very good anyway.

I have an HJC CL-14.

1 Do you find that your head bounces around a lot on the freeway at or above the posted speed limit?
It doesn't bother me until I turn to "check six".

2 Do you wear ear plugs, and is your helmet loud with the plugs in?
No plugs. Not very loud either.(fits extremely well)

3 Would you like built in speakers in your helmet so you can plug in a helmet or communications device without alteration?
I currently have an Autocom, and it works well.
(I could see, in the future, buying a helmet with an integrated intercom setup, but there are so many different types of plugs and adapters to consider for different uses, the price would likely be way high. Like the Autocom.)

4 Would a helmet that is in a shape other than the standard full face look turn you away from it or attract you to it? (nothing drastic just made to be a little more aerodynamic)
If it could be aerodynamic looking forward, and not give you whiplash when you turn your head, then I would possibly look past the "odd shape".

5 Would you like more peripheral vision?
More is better, in this case.

As said above; I also would like to be able to remove all or most of the padding for ease of cleaning.

Good luck to ya',

1. Yes, but only when I have a Semi or similar boxy vehicle in front of me.

2 Yes, my present helmet is a Buell/HJC break face style, which I need because I wear glassees. It's VERY loud and I like to wear earplugs because the wind noise combined with my V&H muffler makes my ears ring after ten minutes or so if don't.

3 Yes, and an optional microphone would be great as well.

4 No issues with looks as long as they are cool the helmet offers proper protection.

5 Yes, as much as possible.

1 Do you find that your head bounces around a lot on the freeway at or above the posted speed limit?

For sure.

2 Do you wear ear plugs, and is your helmet loud with the plugs in?

Always wear 'em unless I'm just going for a short low speed ride.

3 Would you like built in speakers in your helmet so you can plug in a helmet or comunications device without alteration?

No.

4 Would a helmet that is in a shape other than the standard full face look turn you away from it or attract you to it? (nothing drastic just made to be a little more aerodynamic)

As long as it doesn't have a crazy long tail on the end that's cool.

5 Would you like more peripheral vision?

Nah...most are fine.

Not listed here, but would really be a design challenge. A helmet shield I could slightly have open and water would not run inside when it rained.

What can I say, I like having extra air.

The things I would like most is a helmet that doesn't painfully smash into your forehead at high speed and doesn't try to rotate/lift off my head at higher speeds.

Rick,

You need to try a different helmet. I had the forehead problem with the Shoei RF700, replaced it with an RF800 and no longer had that problem. When it came time for the 800 to retire, the 900 fit like the 700 did. So off to another brand I went. Now wearing a HJC AC-11 with no problems. Even the different Arai lines fit differently.

Just a thought

1. Do you find that your head bounces around a lot on the freeway at or above the posted speed limit?
Yep, especially when you have a truck pass you, facing you.

2 Do you wear ear plugs, and is your helmet loud with the plugs in?

sometimes....the helmets do nothing to deaden noise.......we will all be deaf if we continue to do what we are doing.

3 Would you like built in speakers in your helmet so you can plug in a helmet or comunications device without alteration?

yep, intercom, ipod, etc.

4 Would a helmet that is in a shape other than the standard full face look turn you away from it or attract you to it? (nothing drastic just made to be a little more aerodynamic)

would have to see. I like the old buell helmets by fueling with the egg shaped, flat backs.

5 Would you like more peripheral vision?

Yes, Yes,

If there are any question you feel weren't covered or suggestions feel free to add.

I've tried several different. Maybe it's my head. I usually end up adding some extra padding in that area.

1 Do you find that your head bounces around a lot on the freeway at or above the posted speed limit? No but at about 120 or so it wants to tilt down.

2 Do you wear ear plugs, and is your helmet loud with the plugs in? No, some helmet noise I wish it was quieter.

3 Would you like built in speakers in your helmet so you can plug in a helmet or communications device without alteration? No, when I am riding I have more important things to do than listen to music.

4 Would a helmet that is in a shape other than the standard full face look turn you away from it or attract you to it? (nothing drastic just made to be a little more aerodynamic) As long as it wasn't too funky and it worked.

5 Would you like more peripheral vision? No real problem with that for me.

There I fixed communications for you too.
Oh and it whether, not weather.

I would like a helmet design that featured a dual visor. One tinted and one not so that you could raise the tinted one and still have the clear one (which could also be raised).

Or some other manner of tinting/un-tinting without swapping the visor out.

Schuberth makes some. My current Concept was a first (flawed but usable) attempt at this. The new Schuberths look like a huge step forward, but are REALLY expensive.

There was a really cool snowmobiling helmet that looked very good as well. No DOT certification, but it looked like a well made helmet.

Ever so slight topic creep since Reep brought it up (yeah, I'll just blame Bill : )): Schuberth owners; any feedback on comfort, usability, weight aerodynamics etc. etc. of the C1 and thoughts on the C2, please. I've been wanting a flip front helmet and the other brands I've tried didn't fit my head shape.

Thanks and sorry

Henrik,I would be leary about the crashablity of the flip style helmets.Been to a couple of accidents where they came apart at the joint from impact.Neither was a Schuberth but still---
Check them out thoroughly, my friend. You don't need any chin recontouring.

1 Yes, but especially when I am following tractor trailers.

2 No, but if I had a louder exhaust, I might.

3 That would be a nice feature.

4 It would probably attract me. I am riding a Buell after all.

5 Not really. I can see as far as I need to.

Fireman; good point of reference. Thank you. The joint is certainly a concern. But as an MCN test revealed, some joints/locking mechanisms are more stoutly made than others. In an ideal world we'd have the convenience of a flip-front and the safety of a full face.

Jon; don't know if you were replying to me; I've been wearing Arai Signets for years (just now went to a Shoei R11), but I don't think Arai makes flip-front helmets.

2. No, I like hearing everything around me

3. No, do not need more distraction

4. I'd check it out but too 'space-age' looks out of place
