Wa’hoo … finally hit the nail on the head! Of course, it's just my observation and maybe a couple of others. I have had that “impression” for many years here, nearly 7 years to be exact …… (didn’t realize it’s been here for 10 Court) …… that –NO-one should dare be the slightest cynical (if that’s the correct word) of anything Buell related.

I don't agree that the Anonymous posts can be excused because Choptop's insults were just as hurtful. Hurtful to who? An anonymous person? That doesn't even make sense! Maybe Choptop's posts were hurtful to Bike magazine or it's editors or even Erik Buell himself. Come on! That's ridiculous!

The bottom line is that no one should ever be allowed to use the Anonymous feature to sling mud at another BadWeb member. If someone wants to sling mud, they should be required to register for an account and then sling mud using that account. It should be as simple as that.

Jim, I gotcha. I was just thinking that "the three that don't agree" are drawing much of the same hatred that the ol' Kidd did.

Newf, nothing wrong with this conversation as i see it. people stating their (very strong) beliefs and opinions, and 99.999% of it in a positive, adult manner.

if it's troubling, drink some Screech?

Sure, but this is scheduled to go 15 rounds and I doubt there'll be a knockout so we've got a ways to go yet!

while most are being adult on this thread, true, it's a bit like reading a grad thesis, and on tertiary sources, at that --

question was asked, then answered -- all else is descended into debate, polite debate (cue cheers), but debate

never mind, think I'll go riding

I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree on that subject Chop... I see the subtle anti-Buell ribbing one way, you see it as something entirely different : ). It's not that I can't take that as such... It's just that I don't see any reason to not defend my favorite brand when and where I can. I'll stand right beside you in defending the fact that you were at least subtle about it ; ).

Anyway... It seems that Jerry has stated it best (as is frequently the case) IMO.

"Anon, not sure who you are (or who ALL of you are), but YOU have got to be bigger than all of US when you post. tough job, but someone's got to do it.

especially tough job, i bet, when you're tired and weary and feeling like the anti-Buellers are biting.

well, sorry man (or woman), but you've gotta be bigger than us. you have to show this in your words, EVERY time you post.

and PLEASE keep posting. we'll figure out the rest as we go, pro-Buell, anti-Buell, or in-between, but keep on keepin' on and giving your many fans the inside scoop when you can.

this place is better for it. "

Very much so : ), especially those last two sentences.

I'd like to add that people SHOULD just be forgiven. If one can't do that, then I figure it must just be like I said... Some would like nothing more than to have had mud slung at them by Erik. They could write it on a sign and run around pointing at it or something.

Talk about personal attacks!
There was not this much hoo hah over on the Sacborg site when a member told me that he had just had sex with my dying Mother. Nor were any flags raised or apologies doled when a picture, supposedly of me, having sex with a farm animal was posted. I think Lurch finally took that one off himself.)Nor when an ACTUAL photo of me(again?) was posted with a fairly insulting joke attached. Of course I didn't whine about it or demand an apology...it's just the web...Unless you are my Mother or writing my paycheck or maligning my work or work ethic(which also happened on both sites), I wouldn't give a rats rectum what someone thought.
If you need an apology to strengthen your chee(sp?) or realign your planets. Let me be the first to apologize for all the misdeeds that have been bestowed upon you all.

As far as the anony deal. I don't understand the purpose. It takes all of about one minute to register and if I recall, you can put whatever you want your name to be for username. It seems moot to me. But I don't care one way or the other.

You all seemed like way more layed back and reasonable folks that to let this crap get under your skin. Especially you Snail...heard any fat jokes lately?

I usually try to stay away from these things but...

quote:

...or that it went so long untouched by the inner circle...

JB; there was is plenty of discussion amongst the custodians as to whether the BIKE discussion (and this one) should be shut down / trimmed / deleted. For those that don't know, that type of discussion occurs fairly often in an area off the board, and nearly always the decision is to let the discussion take it course. The creation of Sacborg can be loosely attributed to a Badweb custodian taking action to "civilize" the level of conversation around here. (ironic that he checked in for this thread. Hi Don!) Some people picked up their marbles and started a new place where free speech is better tolerated. All well and good and it gave me another place to waste time discussing motorcycles. Since that event I have'nt noticed very much trimming of posts here at ole Badweb.

Getting back to the custodies...For the most part we discuss our concerns and get a little talking to from Admin who generally is very "liberal" (small joke there) in allowing free ranging discussion. The discussions and disagreements we have on the backside of the board pretty much reflect what happens on the public side. Unless you step on God or Country, or attempt to sell a product without first becoming a sponsor, you can say most anything around here and your post will stay. Admin has been consistent and clear in these few policies.

At this time many examples will now be posted where someone heard from Admin or custodian and yadda yadda. Save em cause I've already watched them happen or been directly involved in revoking some valued posters "rights". Some actions taken here I have agreed with, some I don't. There are several old time posters who I had a personal relationship with that kept my bike in motion with their knowledge that won't visit here due to spats they have had with the Admin and custodians. Hurts me, but hey, there are other forms of communication than Badweb.

Despite the infrequent loss of control and to the credit of the contributors who meet here, this place has remained at a fairly high level of civility. I would like to see it stay high and personally I would like to see more censorship (there. i said it) exercised to maintain a civil level of discourse. Don't think I'll win that fight, ain't even going to mention it again.

As regards the BIKE thread, some custodians requested early on that it be closed, and other custodies said let it ride for various reasons. Someone always finds value in every post here, even the rude ones. Much effort goes into making this place one that disseminates Buell knowledge and is a place of reasonable standards. It happens not on the public side, but I assure you it is ongoing.

I won't defend a persons words, but I do defend the anony policy of the board. I think it's a good one and has been to the great benefit of us BUELL OWNERS in the past. Don't own a Buell? Get your life right!

My sincere advice to many of the contributors to the threads BIKE and ANONYMOUS. Your over the edge. This continuous tit-for-tat is doing no one any good. For those who insist on continuing this behavior, become a lawyer. Otherwise, get on your bad motorscooter (i don't care what brand or how many you have or why you became a club racer or an AMA champion) and ride.

Reg; glad to read your writings around here and hope you will post more frequently.

Vik and Chop, the above is my loose interpretation of past events. Accept in advance my apologies for generalizing!

Tramp, I saw the Yanks in LA. While they got swept for the 4 game series, it was an enlightenment to me to realize how many Yankee fans there are in this world. They cheered louder than the home fasn, and I have video to prove it.

Go Royals!

Pammy,

I've never thought of you as a drama quenn. Talk about taking things out of context!

As I remember, LURCH's offending post was basically a one liner and he had no idea that your Mom was dying. It was the same one liner that I've heard dozens of times before and since, usually followed by an Andrew Dice Clay type OOOH! The pictures were removed at my and Chop's request.

The board was brand new and finding it's feet. People were going hog wild because there was no censorship. As I also remember, I defended you in that thread.

Man, ya know I tried to stay out of this but . . .
M1 - I don't care who was throwing the mud, whether the mud was subtle (hmmm, this mud has a nice bouquet, and a pleasant finish with an oaky aftertaste). Alan and Vik were called out by name, by you, the minute Blake posted the article. You went looking for an argument, and haven't stopped trying to push buttons since.
Anon, whichever one it was, got mad and crossed the line as far as I'm concerned.
Ya know who deserves a big ol' apology? Snail. Fer cryin' out loud he still owns a friggin' Buell!!!!!!!!
One Anon (I can only assume a different one) is talking to him about how tough the Uly is on one thread, and just about has him reaching in the back of the fridge for the dusty pitcher of Kool-Aid leftover from 1999, and another is taking a pi$$ on him over here. Ya ever meet Paul? Stand up, straight shootin' with balls the size of friggin' South America. I don't give a crap what he was racing, he could have been riding a YSR50 : ) for all I care and not that I had a say. How much has he given to the quote Buell Community unquote? Gee, I don't know - like maybe the Salmon Patties and Elk aren't enough? Does it really matter what friends do for you to curry favor, or is it enough they're your friend? Is it enough to know if I ever break down in the Pac NW if Paul's not out risking his life somewhere in the Pacific trying to earn a living he'd let me crash and help me fix my bike? Or should he only help me if I ride an approved brand of moto-sickle?
You can call it defending your favorite brand, but seeking to pick a fight, Internet or not, with someone you don't know, and know nothing about, is to be polite, rude. To be not so polite, your d^^^head comment started this whole thing.
You, and anon, owe some folks an apology.
You love your Buell? Well, good luck with that. I love mine too, both of them, and I'm thinking about buying another one, like real soon. Hell, BMC has at least two bikes out there that I want and the toughest part is figuring which one to get.
So why don't you go back in the corner like a good little boy, take a timeout, and think about what you did.
When you're done ruminating, come back and apologize like a man.

Vik, I have no problem with the way either site is conducted. I even had dinner with Lurch after his offending posts. I don't need any defending, but I certainly do appreciate it.

What I am getting at is that it's just the web. I am just saying that getting all riled up about some words(or pics) that are typed on a screen is an exercise in futility. Don't get me wrong, Drama Queen that I am, I do get riled up at times. Sometimes, I even get my feelings hurt. But, I post back and then let it go.

Of course I bitch about it to everyone I ever come in contact with and plot on the individual that has done me wrong ....but then I let it go...

Tripper, if you ever insinuate that I may be reasonable again in a public forum....welll I will just tell you that your bowlegged and you have corns on your crusty feet...Don't mess with me, there's more where that came from...

Yeah...that's really pushing the limits.

Thanks all for the discussion.

Mistakes were made, emotions ran high, Badweb will continue to be administered as best we can do.

Like I say, I know the various folks in this thread and not a dummy in the crowd. It's this element, to evoke this kind of emotion, that keeps me intrigued by Buells.

And life goes on. . . with or without the Mets.

Philly, i went back just now and read the opening "salvo" from M1combat on the cornering thread, and i don't read the malice in it that you do.

not saying you're wrong, or i'm right, but i intrepeted his original post as good-natured sarcasm, and in his follow-up post he said as much.

anyway, i DO agree with every word you said about Paul Starkweather, aka Snail. he's a stand-up guy in any measure that counts, and if i ever had to go hand-to-hand with a mortal enemy, i'd want him by my side.

and knowing Paul, he'd be right there.

no need to put this genie in the bottle, what's been said here is all good. a little thread shift, perhaps, but the conversation has been largely adult and civilized, and many have had a chance to speak their mind as to the Anon issue.
