Well.... I made the trip from Deltona, Florida to G'Ville South Carolina. One thousand plus miles in a weekend. The XB performed as usual without a single hiccup. The only casualty besides my butt was the back tire. No chord showing, but the tread has seen better days. I left Deltona around 2pm on Friday. I arrived in Greenville about 9. I made gas and stretch stops every hundred miles, with one stop at a 50 mile interval to just stretch out on a rest area park bench for ten minutes or so. The ride was uneventful, but I have to say that 500 miles on an XB9R with the stock seat and bars is about the limit for me.
My son, who at 19 stands 6ft4 and weighs in around 240, kept looking at the bike, then he sat on it, and said "can I". And well, I couldn't say no. We spent a few hours in an empty parking lot letting him get used to it, and he picked it up right away. But that was like he did anything else. He was a top ranked go-kart racer at 10! Now, he prefers to bust heads on the football field. At any rate, now he wants a bike. So, my next gift to him will be the MSF course.
I headed out of SC around 9pm and about 50 miles into the ride, it started raining. Again, the bike didn't miss a beat. I got wet, but my gear kept me warm for the most part. I stopped and changed out gloves when the rain stopped, and headed off again. With the late nights, and open roads I managed to keep it at 80-90 almost the whole trip home. My biggest scare of the night was spotting a herd of deer on the die of the interstate and praying that they stayed where they were.
Thats about it, sorry my creative writing skills can't make the trip sound more colorful, but with such a great bike and good roads there just isn't some drama to throw in here!

Nick

cool made a trip like that the weekend before last. went down to morgantown wv. they had their first mountain fest motorcycle ralley. only saw one other buell their. a yellow blast. i think a woman may have been riding it. walking in the general area was a woman wearing a buell tank top. on the way down i had some fun riding with a guy on a grey and orange m2 he had harley davidson down the sides of the tail section in orange letters. always love hooking up with another bike to cruse with for awhile. i made stops around the 200 mile marks. tried to stop before reserve kicks in around 212. would grab gas and food and head out again. really nice trip. i would definately go again next year. west virginia has got some fun roads. left friday and returned sunday and netted around 1,673 for the weekend. only know because i wanted to do my oil change at home and it put me 21 miles past due. i love my s2 but some times i could really go with out that boy braw on the front of the seat.. ya know the one that lifts and seperates. oh well my boring addition is done but hope to see some other buells down their next year. and to the guy on the grey and orange m2,, nice riding with you and keep the shinny side up and the rubber side down..

Nick: Glad you had a good trip. "only casualty besides my butt" I felt the same way on the return trip from Deal's Gap a couple of weeks ago...1300 miles in 3 days. The seat on my triathlon bike is more comfortable.

Aaomy:
I was at Mountain Fest on my black XB9S. Spent part of the day Saturday there, mostly riding around town, stopped at Triple S, and the rest of the time at the marketplace. And Wings Ole. Must stop for burritos at Wings.

Only saw three other Buells; one Blast and two tube-frames. Didn't see any other XB's.

I had a good time, mostly because I hooked up with my semi-drunken Harley riding friends at the marketplace. But about an hour out in that hot sun with the drinkers (I don't drink anymore) was all I could take. Everybody I talked to had the same complaint: Not enough signs and directions. All of us had ridden around and several miles out of the way trying to find Mylan Park. Also missed out on the vintage bike exhibit downtown. Other than that, cool event. Never seen so many motorcycles as in the parking lot at Mylan Park.

It was a short trip for me, put 340 miles on the bike that day, mostly (eck!) interstate.

Have fun,
Bill
