Hey guys hows the summer going. Did a 7200km trip to Ontario Canada from Saskatchewan this summer had a fantastic ride. Bike used about .75 of a liter of oil in that distance. Have to be happy with that. Question is why is my bike missing. M2 Cyclone 2002 Carburated. Starts to miss about 4600 rpm under light or heavey load and doesn't quit till it gets back down to about 4300. You can feel an occasional miss when cruising but will run fine for a long way. Started just at the end of the trip. Idles perfect. I changed the spark plug leads as they were not that great of shape. Plugs were changed about 10000kms ago. Bike has 24000 kms on it. I have been racking my brain but have not come to a conclusion as of yet. Any body got an idea. (Message edited by Thunderbox on August 05, 2005) |

check fuel availability (kinked vent, clogges filter on the petcock) coils are alwso wonky beasts -- they can go out to lunch all at once, or they can start breaking up, generally at higher revs, and slowly get worse until your usable red-line is, o, I dunno, 2500 R . . . ... plugs are cheap, coulda gotten fouled by some iffy gas (specially if you were out in the toolies) as for your 0.75 Litre/7200 Km trip -- it's either oil, which ain't horrible, or it's fuel, in which case, please share your secret! I'd LOVE to fill up every couple of thousand miles! |

I will change the plugs and see if thats it but It doesn't feel like plugs and I pulled them to see what they looked like and they looked pretty good. Coil sounds like it may be a problem as I first noticed this problem when it rained a bit and thats when it started. Oil I used was Bardahl American Classic 20W50 Synthetic. I find my engine is much quieter when I use this as apposed to Amsoil. I use there filters though. |

I am betting coil, but be sure to check all electrical connections to the coil. Good luck. |

check battery cable connections first. closely for looseness (simple and/or more common stuff first). |

Probably not the battery. I just put a new one in when I got back as it was getting a little weak. I don't want to go and start buying a bunch of parts and find out they don't fix the problemo. Keep the ideas coming fellas. |

here's an idea. reread my post. i didn't say it was the battery, and you just mentioned you replaced the battery. that would point to a connection possibility. what you have is an incredibly simple and common problem, whatever it is. If you're not going to start with the simplest and most common problems, maybe you should just buy a bunch of new stuff and start haphazardly changing. feel free to spend hundreds of dollars playing diagnostic blackjack incidentally, WHEN did you replace the battery, and WHY was it "getting a little weak"?..... best, donald tramp (Message edited by tramp on August 04, 2005) |

I replaced the battery on the 16th July. The battery was getting a little week and when tested only had about 90 CCA. New one has 350 CCA. I always kept my battery charged in the off season so 4 years does not seem very good to me. All the connections to the battery are perfectly secure right now. They were secure clean and trouble free before I replaced it also as that is the first things I checked when it started missing. |

Check your Ign. harness as it comes from the nose cone past your front sprocket. I had a problem with mine (2K clone) that sounds very much the same. I found a bare wire near the front sprocket(insulation had rubbed off).I was changing to a Dyna 2000i and would never have found it except for pulling the old harness out. Were the plug wires replaced before or after the problem? I have had bad NEW plug wires also. Good luck........Charlie |

The wires were changed after the problem started. I put a set of the Buell Performance wires. The old ones had some chaffing where they rubbed on other things and I was hoping that was the problem but it sees to have been only one of the things wrong. I will check my harness as you discribe and see if it is a issue. thanks |
