A long time ago there was a picture of a tank lettering mod that consisted of a flowing flag decal over the BUELL letters.
Anybody remember that?
Anybody have pictures?

Guys,
I bet if you ask Al at American Sport Bike or Matt at Trojan-Horse, or Jens at Hillbilly-Motors, or even DaveS at Appleton, or... any of our sponsors... they might be happy to fab up a gross of those logos for our Buells.

OK Sponsors, how about it?

Some nice die cut stickers depicting a beautiful flowing flag.
Photo-realistic like Stou's flames.

Kind of like this.

Sorry folks!

Those stickers were done by one of our DCBRAG members a few years ago. She gave them out only to local DCBRAG members.

She's real hesitant to sell these to anybody due to the obvious copyright issues involved.

I don't think she even has any left over.

Just a thought- Could you do one of these on your own? If one could find a "flowing" U.S. flag decal, paste it over the raised Buell lettering, and then trace each letter with an Exacto knife, pull off the unused portion, it should look just like the above.

Of course, your skill with an Exacto knife would be a big factor in how good the finished product looked (and in NOT scratching up the paint around the letters).

take your original letters to a sign or graphics vendor in your area and have them make them out of vinyl. It's fairly cheap... once someone has the plotter and software, it's less than a dollar in materials.

I've considered putting a spare tank on the M2 if I ever sell it so I can keep the Flag overlay tank.

Now that's funny

so the next time my truck needs brakes it should only cost me $19.95

What if I provided my own picture? Could you print that on a vinyl that would hold up to UV? I will do the trim with an exacto around the letters.

Birdman,

A local (188 W. 2950 S.) cut new tank graphics for me, decent price. They said if I wanted to reduce the size for sticker for my car to just give them the file number. I think they could handle this, nice folks.

SignGuy, I'm just going off of what a friend of mine said. He's got a plotter and stuff and gave me the cost in materials.

I know the equpment and time/knowledge cost money, but then again, I never claimed they didnt.

Badwebbers are so damned sensitive.

The tank isn't the place for Die cut graphics

The process that you need is Thermal infused colors that don't fade and cann't be rubbed off or catch on anything. So if you want to have your local shop do it for you, make sure they have a Gerber Edge machine
( BTW this machine cost 15k and the software cost about 3k more)
More than a couple of buck IF they can find the time to do it

IIRC Gerber Edge prints are colorfast for 2-3 years, probably more if it's garaged often, a lot less if outdoors 24/7 because of the near horizontal graphic placement.

Jose,

Would it be possible to get the technique posted along with a critique of how these have held up over time?

Thanks,

If the Copyright police are on the prowl . . . . that's scarier yet . . since names are not "copyrighted" . . works are . . . plays, books, abstracts, ideas, etc.

Names are TRADEMARKED and the good news is that most the Trademarks on Buell stuff have long since been dead.

The older Buell stuff . . . the pre kiddie art really cool stuff, from the days before the Mobil Oil scare, are all abandoned.
