I am on the hunt for a decent summer jacket. I saw a Joe Rocket at work the other day and talked to the guy a bit about it and he loved it. It was the mesh with the padding. I also want one that doesn't break the bank. Ideas??

don't know what size you wear but I have the Joe Rocket santa fe and love it, really breathable when you are on the move and plenty of protection with the leather and armor. just keep your eyes out on newenough and you will find something, plus they ship same day and are really cool if you have any problems. I HAD, well, still have a Joe Rocket Pheonix..

Great mesh jacket, with the removeable rain liner..cost about 130....

NOW, it is a one use jacket, kinda...

I went down with it 2 weeks ago, it took a good amount of damage, BUT, did what it was supposed too, saved my flesh, to be honest, I am impressed with it...I have already bought anotehr, but wioll keep my leathers fro the "spirited" riding...\

My 2 cents

Chase

I just picked up the Joe Rocket Santa Fe from Newenough in June. I have been wearing since then on my daily commutes to work. I believe it to be quite a bargain. I wanted a mesh type riding jacket with leather. That is what the Santa Fe provides.

This jacket has leather on the top portion of the sleeves, shoulders (front and back), collar, and elbows. It is textile mesh everywhere else. It has the removable foam-type armor in the elbows, shoulders, and back. It has adjustable waistband straps and sleeve-cuff zippers.

Pros: Very airy, leather, armor, closeout price.

Cons: Zippers are made of plastic rather than metal, collar has no snap to close it around the neck, no rain liner (therefore rain just goes right through).

Other: Only one color is available (black, off-white, orange piping), which was just right for me. The color combination actually goes well with by blue/orange XB9R I think. I also think it was a jacket catering to the HD crowd because of its colors, but that is just my opinion. There is no mistaking that this jacket will have to be replaced after the first crash, due mostly to the mesh construction I think.

There is a Buell logoed Vanson mesh jacket that I've had for a few months. Cost about $150 at the dealer. It is available from the Vanson site without Buell logo. Has padded elbows and shoulders and a pocket for back pad. Like it a lot.

I have a blk/silver Joe Rocket Phoenix 3.0 mesh jacket & I can't say enough good things about it. It's damn close to riding with just a t-shirt. The air flow is that good. I paid $100 for mine. It has armor in the elbows, shoulders & back. There's also has a little kidney protection. The sleeves end right at my wrists, not too long & not too short. The torsal (sp?) is short enough to not bunch up when I lean forward. It has a 8" zipper for pants. On the cool mornings I wear a fleece under it so I don't freeze then later when temperatures reach the high, high 90's I'm in heaven. Nothing but a cooling breeze while I ride.

I just got an excellent deal on a Joe Rocket Reactor Mesh Jacket from another member on this board a week or so ago. I really like it alot. Leather and pads where they need to be and nice and airy all in one package. I did price them and the cheapest I found were on ebay.

Joe Rocket Alter Ego here. Removable outer reveals a mesh jacket with a removable inner rain liner. I love the mesh and use the jacket for any temp above 70 degrees or so and it's nice to have the outer cover to zip on when it gets colder. They can be found for quite a bit less than retailers on eBay.

The Santa Fe is my first mesh jacket; after my first ride with it I was just thinking, I wish I'd had one of these 20 years ago.

Ebay and newenough (there are others, I'm sure) have made it affordable to buy safety gear. There are probably a lot of guys like me that want some modern protection but aren't going to be paying $1000 for a full suit.

Good luck,
Bill

glad I could be of help! thanks also. I must say that new enough is a great company, heard one story about them sending out two sizes of a jacket to a guy because he wasn't sure which one would fit, and paying the postage back for the one that didn't fit! now that is customer service. nothing but good things to say about them.
