So I am gonna be the proud papa of a Buell. I have a question for everyone. 2006 is the year of several upgrades for the XB platform. I think these are major improvements to an already great bike. I have an '04 Sportster which, for those that don't know, was the first year for the rubber mounted engine along with other upgrades (bigger rear tire, new swingarm, etc) I have had some troubles with some of these "improvements"

My question is this:
Does anyone think that these changes for the '06 Buell lineup will have any manufacturing / quality issues? would it be better to hold off and wait to see what the first batch of new Buellers say or just bite the bullit now.

I will admit I would like to be the first in my city to have the XB12Ss, and if I order in the next few weeks I am guaranteed of being the first cause no one up here (edmonton canada) knows about the amzung machines named Buell

We beat the crap out of the very first XB9R that came into our dealership. It is virtually a track only bike now and gets flogged regularly. It has been a great bike. I wouldnt worry about it much.

Buell is by all indications REALLY committed to setting the standard among motorcycle manufacturers for reliability, so it stands to reason the 06's will be even more trouble-free than previous models.

Most of the upgrades to the 06's seem to be of the "incremental improvement" variety. For instance, they changed the swingarm design and the manufacturer (according to Cycle World) but it stands to reason they would only do this in the interest of improving the performance and reliability of the bike. The latest version of the final drive belt sounds as if it's virtually indestructible.

The other changes (longer rear section, slightly revised steering geometry, frame alterations for increased fuel capacity) are more-or-less minor changes to a proven design.

The biggest engineering change this year seems to be the all-new transmission. You figure the Sportster-based power plant has basically used the same transmission since ~1953, apart from the addition of fifth gear in the early 80's. Again though, I can't imagine Buell going to production with anything that hadn't been repeatedly tested to destruction and re-engineered to make it as bulletproof as humanly possible.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of this year's bikes, and I won't hesitate to provided I can figure out how to pay for one!

Harleys have to get past Willie and the design department who hinder the engineers at every opportunity.

Buells have to get by Erik and the Elves who are out to make the best bike possible.

BIG DIFFERENCE!

Impulse- that's a great quote. You should post it in one of the XB12X threads over at advrider. There are 2 or 3 guys over there that fall back on "it's just another Harley product" at every opportunity. Your statement pretty well sums up the difference.

I had an 04' 1200R Sportster and an 04' XB12S. I flogged both and put a lot of mile on both. Both had zero problems.

Whodom,
Go ahead and steal it. I've been over to Avrider a bit but I barely have time to keep up with posting on this board.

Smoke, he done went and joined the Jimmy Buffet crowd and got himself a, and I qoute, "heel-toe shifter" BMW.
All's fair he did it for a good reason. I believe a 12X will be in that stable soon also.

Sorry Mike, I just had to razz you a bit
