OK, shoe, I think your message is pretty clear --

perhaps you may wish to consider that your suggestions might be better received if you expressed them a little better than a jurnior high schooler?

or not --

refer to the promise you made when you joined this board, and lighten up a bit, please

If your so disappointed the go BUY A JAP BIKE!!!!

I like the big lump of motor in my bike that rumbles and grumbles and I think that the new models are going to be a fantastic platform for things in the future.

I've tried 3 buells in the last 8 years and the engine is where the most improvement is needed IMO, IMO,. I do presently own a Honda VFR and a BMW. and am impatently awaiting a new buell. most of comments I read on other web sites about buell state they would buy a buell with a modern engine in it, I'm wondering where the factory was reading the public was asking for a dual sport with a low mount muffler?

golly, steelshoe..
you sure told him!
that's gonna change everything at BMC.
hey- being you don't like the engine, why don't
you post an ad for the rr11000 you mention in your profile. I might have a nice gpz lying around that i'd give you for it, and, jeepers- that has a swell engine!

Shoe -- you have accurately explained what makes up a horse race -- differences of opinions -- some like the motors in Buells, some modify em, some can't stand the idea of em --

cool, sez me -- opinions make the world go round

seems Buell isn't making a bike for you -- they do make bikes for a buncha other folks, and there are lots of companies that make bikes closer to what you seem to want -- everyone's happy, life if good

Stupid? What about a guy who calls himself Steelshoe and disses the engine that created and still creates flat track racing?!

If your BMR is a twin, wanna race? I wouldn't, if I were you. The BMW factory is afraid to.

The XB is just plain a great engine, the ultimate refinement of a legendary design. Is it the only engine? No. Is it great in it's own way? Yes.

"Stupid? What about a guy who calls himself Steelshoe and disses the engine that created and still creates flat track racing?!"

ROTFLMAO : ). Good one : ).

I still don't get it. The only place I've ever wanted more power was in a straight line and I was ALREADY franticly searching for cops anyway...

Granted... That's just ME, and I relish the thought of buying some parts from Aaron and trying to end up with something more than a grenade. Other people need that power from the factory.

I'm having guilt flashbacks about sliding my XR-1000 sideways, with it's "just the engine", just to hear the sound AND enjoying it.

I am overcome with guilt.....

Well, kinda....

Tell ya what partner. In a discussion, be it the internet or face-to-face, careless tossing about of the term "stupid" usually terminates any meaningful dialouge and is a de facto turning over of your intellectual cards.

There are a host of folks here, including our esteemed anonymous poster, with whom I have had the pleasure of having fairly dramatic disagreements. Not once have I, or those holding and advancing differing opinions, seen fit to call someone who we've called on to share an opinion "stupid".

Take my word for it, I run with a fairly well educated crowd and more often than not, as a construction worker with only a rudimentary understanding of advanced engineering, I am wrong and eat my words. When I am right or when I am wrong, the "stupid" card does not get played.

Once you prove yourself intellectually out run and play the "stupid card", just like Allen Miller when I was in 3rd grade, you've lost the ability to rise to anything but the class clown.

That's just my take....

Used up the once chance you had.....

Maybe I should have sent this in to this thread instead.........

"It seems this board gets continues threads about the lack of power coming from our Buells. I would like to ask how much do you need? The current XB12R runs zero to 60 in about 3.5 seconds, tops out around 140mph and runs the qtr in mid 11's. This isn't enough? These stats can be found in the back of any issue of 'Motorcyclist' magazine by the way. I don't think Erik Buell gives a rats arse about top speed or quarter mile shoot outs with Jap liter bikes. Neither do I. I'm quite satisfied with the bikes performance. If the current selection of Buells are not powerful enough for you, there are many other makes and models out there to choose from. You may not be able to identify your Jap bike from a line up, but you'll be able to go really fast on it. While I'm on a rant, what's up with the sitepests here that don't own Buells? Do you not have jobs or a life? Try owning one first before you formulate an opinion or head over to the BMW boards and bash their motorcycles for not keeping up with Hayabusa's."

There, I feel better.

You know, I just realized- steelshoe's battle cry to Erik is to "Loose" the sportster engine", and now that I think of it, to "loose" something, as a verb, means to "free" it...much like Erik was doing with the "Freebreathing 1203 cc Thunderbolt"
further, in saying "IT'S THE ENGINE STUPID", I believe he means that it's the "engine-stupid", as in the "attention-deficit" or the head-strong", a descriptor wherein the noun is floowed by the adjective.
And, that being said, I have to agree with "Steelshoe", it IS the "Engine-stupid" who are ripping our well-thought out Buells apart.
Hey- Three cheers to Steelshoe and his excellent points, especially regarding thoe engine-stupid...
Obviously, not being "stupid" himself, he meant "Loose" and "engine-stupid.
Go Steelshoe!
YEAH!!!!

Tramp, you erroneously gave the "ITS" an apostrophe,Do you suppose it might have been an acronym for something? Before Steelshoe "kicks the chair out" maybe we should give this some forethought.

My comment was ment for the corporate giant Harley Davidson, I can understand buell owners love their bikes and what powers them. I still read here because I'm interested in Buells. Most bikes that I have owned had more power than I could use including the 3 Buells I've owned. I am not talking about power, just a modern engine, for me 80 HP is enough. A few months ago I was looking for a new bike and considered an 04 sporty 1200R. IMO that engine belongs in that bke, not a modern sportbike.

Harley Davidison is a corporation just like Ford, GM, Honda, Toyota. Be loyal to the bike you love, What wrong with some harsh words towards the corp?

If buell came up with a water cooled Vtwin and offered both designs as a choice I think most would choose the new design, some would want the original.

My stupid comment was directed at the corp. not anybody here.

"IMO that engine belongs in that bke, not a modern sportbike."

Then you just don't understand the bike (as evidenced by you calling it a "sportbike" ). It's not a sport bike. It's a street fighter. It fights against the "sportbikes" on the street VERY well, and I suspect it holds it's own on the track too. Have you ever played "Follow the leader"? THAT is the real world. THAT is where the XB spanks pretty much anything you can throw at it.

I'll bet the new "X" will be the KING of follow the leader : ).

BTW... too funny Tramp : ).

loyality had nothing to do with SOME of the replies your comment engendered -- while some may or may not agree with your view of the engine and it's BHP output, your hoolering on an enthusiast's board, as opposed to communicating with HDI (who may or may not visit here), and, further, your word choice was just, er, uh, ehem, ill-advised.

synonyms -- gotta love em!

I'm getting tired of the term "street fighter", fast way to a shallow ditch in some circles. Oh well, carry on.
(Dodging the browser snooper by day, doing other stuff elsewhere, and staying far far away from street fighting by any definition. Bye.)
