I got to thinking about it tonight, and I'm really, truely excited. I'm excited about Buell motorcycles, and I'm excited about Erik's vision of what the future really can be. I feel really privilaged to live in a time when not only can I enjoy the efforts of man (Thanks for my Blast Erik!) but watch his vision of not only an American Streetfighter, but a truely American racer (XB9) grow wings and fly (Tripp, Noble and everyone that makes Pro Thunder wonderful). The sheer fact that Erik is not a myth, but an actual person (brought up by to many wonderful people on this board, and the occational "Anon" posting on this BBS) simply contributes to the momentum of Buell and it's power. Erik, if you're out there, I've never met you, and can I only hope to meet you some day. You're work is truely magnificent..

I catch a lot of grief when I ride my Buell from other riders. I own other motorcycles, but my Buell is exactly that, my Buell. It's their loss, they can't feel what I feel, they can't see what's coming down the road, they can't feel the excitement I have for where Buell is going. Everywhere I go, people are asking me about my motorcycle, and I tell them the truth. It's an American made motorcycle, a Buell. If you think this is cool, just wait, there's much more to come.

I have influenced others, I've let others ride my beloved Buell (it's not much, but even it empresses them), and it's a wonderful feeling to watch someone walk away from your bike with a smile and say "Wow, can I borrow it for a night?".

We really are a small family, but even still, it's amazing that we are in fact that - a family. I've had the luxury of talking to other people on this board on the phone, and even meeting some in person. No other "manufactured" motorcycle has every given me this experience. This transends the ideas of HD and it's rallys, I am a member of a family, a group of people that truely care about each other and their lives, not just their choice of motorcycles.

To those joining my family, welcome home, to those moving on, stop back soon, you'll be suprised at what's happened in your absense. Even if you wander, stop back and talk awhile. We'd love to hear from you..

Court & Ferris, I wonder if I'll every have the level of excitement that you have with Buell, but none the less, I'm excited. Erik, continue to be a visionary, continue to break the rules. You will always have a supporter - me.

Thank you for a truely wonderful machine,

My 2001 P3 - Buell Blast

Chris

Chris:\
Good news.

My excitment level is higher now than it was when all the Buell owners in the USA could ride to lunch in a Buick Vista Cruiser.

The world of Buell looks wonderful, just glimpsing ahead. The recent CA gig supports that point, with guys like FMJH and Ferris still so ga-ga they are unable to communicate effectively. The Fireman will recover, Ferris still concerns me. I mean, I've been called the eternal optimist (I, by the way, differentiate blind optimism from fact based confidence)but that boy just ain't right.

Ride the BLAST, enjoy it, enjoy life, and treat with a spattering of sketicism the comments of those who are vain and bitter about what you ride. Don't question them or their motorcycles....in Erik's words "just go ride the motorcycle".

Erik's vision, always clear, has been mobilized by his association with Harley-Davidson. It'll take him a couple more years to show them how to do it but I'm betting on him :)

I don't know,Court.Putting 3000+ miles on my new/old S-2 this last week reminded me why I love Buells, and particularly S-2's in a most tangible way.And then to finish me off I just got off the phone with Brian Nallin and my LSR motor is done and on the way home. And he said it sounded MEAN--woohoo.I may never get well(Yeah I know I never was well,so what)

Dust Storm, i've been busy elsewhere on this site, finally got around to browsing, and read your wonderful words above.

if there was a "Writes like Ferris Bueller" trophy, your name would be first on the list :-)

well said, my new best friend, your missive from the heart. i'm sure you WILL meet Erik someday, and you won't be disappointed; he is all you've read and heard, and more.

oh...........for the first time in his life, Court may be correct: i AIN'T right! (but i long ago gave up fighting it, and now just run with it and see where it takes me :))

Those are some beautiful words. I'm a bit of a newbie to the Buell realm...but I've been keeping an eye on the going ons at Buell for many years now, and I never imagined one could fall so much in love with an inanimate object. I laugh at all the haters for their words serve only to portray their ignorance. How people fail to see the innovation in these machines is beyond me.

Most of the riders, like the bikes, are indeed different in every sense...and that ain't so bad.

To those is the scientific community...that's one of those there "givens", I mean, for the lawyers "de facto"..... "the thing speaks for itself".

And for those of us from the Bill Murray World...."Daz a Fac Jack~!"

Yee Haaa!

It's great to take a moment to celebrate. I think most of the nit-pickers are losing perspective or never had the perspective of us old-timers.

I was born in 1965, and I have been riding and reading about motorcycles since 1975. I loved the little Japanese bikes of the time. As we realized, in the early 80's, that the Japanese were about to take over the world, I tried to like Harley Davidsons, but I couldn't get my eye off that Kenny Roberts RZ350 ( a bike that would be considered woefully underpowered by many of the naysayers who post here, but a lot of fun on the back roads of Pennsylvania ).

I took great interest when Erik came on the scene, but his early bikes seemed a bit over priced, a bit overweight and a bit slapped together. They were leaps ahead of Harley, but they couldn't really stand up to objective comparisons with world-class bikes.

After a very long time (27 years for me, more for older guys), we finally have something we can be truly proud of. We no longer have to build qualifying statements or excuses into discussions of our beloved Buells. The Firebolt is flat out a great bike, and that's all that needs to be said (other than make mine blue).

Honestly Ferris, I'm not trying to vi for the cup as literary champion. You hold that title fair and square, I can only write what i truely believe.

A lot of people both wrote and spoke what they believed in, and it made them and their cause a truely powerful thing; I'm sure you can think of more than a few individuals that meet this criteria. I'm no better off than anyone else in the board, we've all been cursed with a(n) optimism/fanaticism in a company that supports it's patrons and people that believe in each other. And that is a wonderful thing(TM Martha Stewart).

I am saving my pennies, and I'm watching the future with unbridled anticipation. Look at what's happened in 10 years, and even 5 years. Technology is advancing at an astounding pace, and designers/visionaries like Erik are using it to it's fullest potential. In 1985 I was programming an Apple IIGs, in '87 an Intel 8088, in 90 a 486DX33, etc. Moh's law is in effect, also with Buell and its concepts. Erik has now built what he wanted 15 years ago, just imagine what's coarsing through his veins today.

Are you ready for 2008+? I'm making sure I am..

[Ds], i'm barely ready for yesterday much less '08! :)

Mr. Buell himself has been known to lurk in the muddy waters of BADWEB, and i'm bettin' he's grinnin' from ear-to-ear at your enthusiasm.

i hope someday soon you get to shake his hand, and maybe, just maybe, you'll be in the right situation to fire up a couple of machines that bear his name and go rip up some asphalt with him.

(ps, here's a hint that'll increase the odds he doesn't smoke you too bad thru the first set of esses: yank the keys from his bike and toss 'em in the nearest bushes, dude, it's your only chance!

oh, and not to worry, he's used to lookin' for them.......................)

BTW, to anyone ever fortunate enough to ride with The Man: if he happens to come easin' up on your right whilst you're motorin' along, all casual and nonchalant-like, COVER UP YOUR KILL SWITCH!

The kill switch routine is even better at stop lights. have a friend distract the rider to his left, then reach over and hit his kill switch from the right. In a group of bikes most riders don't even realize their bike has stopped running until everyone starts to pull away! Funny as hell watching them scramble to figure out what happened!!

Darnit, and here I spent a goodly amount of time with Buellidan today. Some folks are just wonderful, and Dan is one of them. If you haven't had the luxury to meet Dan (preferably in his own habitat, be wary, the beast is fiesty when cornered, protect vitals as necessary..) he's a really great guy. Got me late for a barbecue and everything. Thanks Dan.

Seriously, if you're near a fellow Buelligan in your area, drop a line and say hi, chances are you'll end up like me and spend the better half of the afternoon talking about things you really love, your Buell motorcycles. Just make sure the wife doesn't give you as many dirty looks as I got and run like hell if the oppertunaty presents itself. j/k

Take it easy, or anyway you can get it..

[Ds] - secretly coveting Buellidan's X1, MAN that's an AWESOME bike...
