Left a stoplight trying to catch my wife...guess I got on it harder than I thought...when I shifted to 2nd the front wheel came down....caught me off guard...but it was still cool.

Same thing happened to me after I passed 500 miles on the odometer. I thought "at last I can open her up". I got on it & quickly shfted from 1st to 2nd while the revs were high and whammo! I'm sure the front wheel never raised more than a foot before I eased off but it felt like alot more at the time & man did it startle me. I'm happy to report that when I got home my underwear was clean.

Cover the rear brake with your foot, to pull the nose down. Don't try it with a passenger. Practice with a cheap dirt bike.

Just hate it when I pop the wheel up in the and go to pop it up after shifting to second only to find I went into neutral. Did that tonight. Gotta drop that shifter just a bit to stop that.

As a novice street rider (3 years) I was reading an article on how to shift quickly by preloading the shifter and just a quick squeeze and release of the clutch. I tried it on the street and didn't wheelie, but instead broke my rear tire loose for about 5 or 6 feet. It got my attention.

My first big wheelie by surprise was when I tried to leave a light quickly with my wife on the back. I had left that quickly before with the front wheel lightly skipping, but the change in balance made a bigger difference then I was ready for. I looked pretty cool till my wife slapped me in the back of the head...

Somebody tried to tell me that the old Style Interceptors wouldn't wheelie....
They will pull the front wheel for a good city block if the wife is on the back and some dork in a Caddillac thinks he can beat you off the line.
The S2 wheelies at will, so will my Pegaso. Also, my daughters little Zuki DS80 will pop up nicely. But the Honda CM400 will not even get the front light. It's still a fun little bike to f#(t around on.

Yeah, the first time that happened was a big surprise. Now since I put a few things on it the thing goes on command. Just cruising in first at about 40mph, I then left off a little and then stab it. The front wheel comes off the ground a few feet before I let her down. Not trying to ride it down the street. But I love the 1st to 2nd wheelies, because it just shows the power!!

I will not talk about the first, adn subsequent wheelies, though I have only tried one intentionally......and I thought it was gonna land on top of me......

I gotta smile remembering trip on a 94 Sportser. I told my girlfriend to hold on and got an OK response. THANK GOD they have a licence plate bracket that sticks up, cause that was the only thing that kept her on. She said OK, I hit it, next thing I felt was a severe weight shift, the front end in the air, and heard her laughing. She had no idea how close to dead she was. Needless to say on my X1 I take off real responsibly with a passenger.

I used to wheelie on my old KZ1000 all day long with or without someone on the back. All it took was a gear drop and a liberal application of the throttle. The XB9S does it nicely in 1st and will pop up a little without even trying going from 1st to 2nd. I like that, but would never do it in the street. You know, unless I was showing off.

I popped my front tire up a good two feet yesterday. I was leaving work and must have just hit the throttle right because it's never come up that easy before. I've done lots of little two and three inch ones under hard accelaration but I've never had it come up that cleanly when I'm not hammering it. It was very cool though, mostly because it happened infront of three co-workers and I put the wheel back down smoothly.

You know.. I have had my X1 for 3+ years now, and i can honestly say i have NEVER popped the wheel up. I have done a CRAP LOAD of Stoppies, most on purpose (hanging around w/ spidy you have a tendency to do stupid stuff like that). But i have always been a tiny bit stand-offish towards wheelies, since i have never accually pulled one off. I am sure my bike will do it, but i just don't want to be on the pavement watching as my bike slides into the concrete.. lol TEACH ME SOMEONE! lol

I had a buddy down a week or so ago and we were supposed to go hit the twisties. Pulled onto the main road, nailed it and the front tire "floated" for about 40-50 feet, then "snap" front tire dropped. Belt broke. 2nd one in 13,000 miles. Gotta start saving my pennies for the upgraded belt system!

Now theses are funny stories well wheeles have been around for a long time I have been pulling them for a long time on sport bikes, but sure would have liked to have seen my face the first I grabed a mean 2 gear on my V Rod and lifted the front wheel I realy did not intend to do it, some suprise.

I am still trying to get that 1-2 shift with the wheel in the air. i just am not quick enough and it drops down as I shift. So sick of hitting the limiter on a good wheel stand.

The secret to a good wheelie is to take it up until it balances just short of going over backwards. Then ease off the throttle and keep it there with blips. I've tried it hundreds of times, did it twice. Well, almost twice... :>; )

My first wheelies were accidental, too, and a hell of a rush. I do them a bit too often now (though still not the best at it)...and once kept it in the air through the first three gears (it came up racing a car and I just kept on the throttle...and she stayed up!). Generally I can do a decent one block wheelie. Now the only time I get a real rush doing one is when I feel it starting to go over backwards. Thankfully I've never landed it that way!

Stoppies I do occasionally, but I don't yet have a warm fuzzy about 'em (I've had the front end plow a couple times).

I've seen a few flipped XB's come through here. Some people don't understand that there's a learning curve, or what a cheap bike is!

I remember a long time back some one here said that a 75hp bike couldn't power wheelie...that you need at least 90 hp...what a load of crap! If you initially snap the throttle, instead of trying to roll it on, it'll come up nicely.
