I thought I'd start a new thread on this. The guys at the Adventure Rider site are really going bonkers over the prospect of a Buell adventure tourer based on the "teaser" video at Buell.com. The thread is here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73545

This thread is up to 521 posts as of this morning to give you an idea of how much interest it's generating. These guys mainly ride BMW GS's, V-Stroms, KTM's, etc. so this is a very different bunch of riders from your usual Buell enthusiasts.

There's one post up this morning that REALLY begs for a good response. (see below) The vast majority of the posts have been favorable towards Buell, and even this post isn't "anti-Buell", but the line 'The whole "It's a Harley, it doesn't have to be good" mentality weeps from the seams of every Buell I've ridden since 1992.' really begs for a good response. I don't know what Buells this guy's been riding, but it doesn't sound like any Buell I've ever ridden.

How about it Court, you ever post anywhere but BadWeb?

Post from Advrider:

"I even work in a metric bike dealership as a salesman, have an 06 weestrom on order, and wouldn't mind riding a buell adv bike straight into the backlot every morning.
I just cannot believe, after the V-rod fiasco (Harley guys say it ain't a real harley, v-rod guys hate the ol' school tech) that Willie G is going out on any more limbs. I'm loathe to believe that the "discovery" will be adequate or even good. Hell, in the latest mag test a Kawi z750s blistered the buell cityx and it's one of the biggest piles in the 05 lineup (imho). Buell has traditionally aimed high enough to be neato, yet low enough to not be really competitive (put an xb against a 'busa or zx10...). The whole "It's a Harley, it doesn't have to be good" mentality weeps from the seams of every Buell I've ridden since 1992.
This rep does not make me weak with anticipation. But, I just HATE that an american company cannot make a bike that I can use to explore my own country's backroads. Instead, I'm forced to go German/Austrian, or English, or Japanese/Chinese. And I really hold it against Buell that they won't do anything that isn't half assed because they are so afraid to toss away those old H-D powerplants and do some r&d that will yield a superior product.
In my deepest heart, I hope Buell will put their best foot forward. But, my rational mind, the one that urges me on to continue to look at Adv bikes for their imminent practicality, does not have any faith. In fact, what coalesces in my mind is something like a sportster with a set of long forks and DP tyres.
But, like I said, I'd be happy to ride a Buell ADV bike to the metric dealer where I work. The right Buell."

Maybe the "jaded squids" in the Buell haters club can go over there and spread their usual doom and gloom.

I am amazed at how much anticipation is in that thread, the Buell PR folks have created a buzz.

Is it wrong to have the rose colored glasses?

I read that article about the CityX, and it didn't sound to me that the Kaw "blistered" it. I think it came across as being unpolished compared to the Kaw, if I remember right.

Can you put hard bags on it? Will a passenger be comfortable on it? I guess I'll know in a couple of weeks.

The "blistering" article ends with:
"Do you want a motorcycle that works very well in just about any riding situation but doesn't make much of a statement? Or do you want a brash, wildly styled technological master's thesis? The good news is there's no wrong answer here."
This made me laugh: "put an xb against a 'busa"

Court, that's a good point. The guy starts out sounding like a reasonably open-minded motorcyclist willing to give a new Buell a fair shake, then he basically ends up with "well it's not the fastest motorcycle ever so it's junk". What a maroon.

How about we say put an R6 against a Busa or how about put a 250cc against a Busa or how about.... Of course, would this be pitting them against the Busa in the straight line or in the curves?

Well you get the picture.

i read a few posts on that site and I got the impresion that they looked at the busa as a sport tourer rather than "the fastest"

Applesauce on potato pancakes goes great with a traditional Milwaukee style Friday Night Fish Fry, so I guess I'd have to agree with Roger on liking apples and fish.

Dang Bad, you live really close to where I'll be staying. Oak Creek is where my grand parents are and I'll be staying there. Wow, we'll have to meet up if there's time.
