The exact time always seems weird to me. I don't remember what it was last year, but I know the year before it wasn't first thing in the morning, it was around 1pm or so.

Too bad the video has been nearly spoiled. : (

OK, it's July 8 and there's no "teaser" at Buell.com (yet). I did find an interesting thread on 2006 Buells on sporttourer.com:

~8:15am, No change at Buell.com yet. I expect it'll be later in the afternoon. (why?)

1313- I think you're the biggest tease yet. ; ) Unless of course we're wrong, then it'll just be odd that you kept posting a picture of a calendar from a few days ago. : )

Interesting. Seems to point to a DP adventurer tourer bike.

Does anybody recognize the music in the video? Would be really neat if it was actually Erik and the Thunderbolts or something.

Can anyone slow down the play speed of the vid and see what's contained in the flash/pop stuff at the end? I think if it was shown at a slower speed it would be more user friendly. From what I could see it could have been run with the CityX as is, or my M2 for that matter. ; )

Something like the BMW R1150GS?

I kept trying to look for shadows in the video, no luck. It is one FAST moving Flash show.

Gather 'round chil'ren...the old blue donkey has had a vision.....

What may be coming in July is going to blow allot of minds. I'm predicting a dual sport / adventure bike that will compete with the Aprilla Caponord, Triumph Tiger, KTM 950, Suzuki V-Strom, BMW R1200GS, etc. But it will be smaller and lighter than the others in its class. The engine may very well be a water cooled Rotax parallel twin with perhaps a 600-700cc displacement and it will be chain or perhaps even shaft driven.

It won't be particularly well received by the Buell faithful but the motorcycle press will hail it as the Motorcycle of the Year" because of the groundbreaking way in which Buell manages to hybrid the design innovations of the XB platform, the Harley flat track heritage, and the European adventure touring genre, producing a bike that breaks all molds and establishes a "new world order."

Hooligans will motard it and strafe canyons. Old guys will put bags on it and head to Alaska. Harley dealers will scream bloody murder and the Euros will keep the factory in East Troy months behind filling orders. BMW will be furious....

They probably will stay with the V-twin configuration for the motor, though. We'll see....

Nice guess ; )

Agreed. I suspect Buell may be the reason that the BMW HP2 was announced.

You know, this is pretty cool. All the discussion threads I'm seeing around the net that are speculating about this bike seem to be leaning favorably towards Buell. The Adventure Rider guys seem to be pretty pumped about the possibility of a Buell adventure tourer. That seems to be a big change from a year or 2 ago when any Buell thread outside of BadWeb automatically degenerated into a "they're all crap" rant.

One interesting thought I read on another board: the tagline on the button for the teaser video is "THE DISCOVERY BEGINS JULY 23". Maybe the name of this new model is "Discovery"? "Buell Discovery", that has a pretty cool ring to it....

I recall answering a questionnaire from Buell before I bought my Tiger.
2001 Tiger
I basically stated that Buell should really get on board with the Tiger/GS/Multistrada style bike capable of two up touring. If they would, I'd buy one.

Be careful of what you ask for.... (I hope!)

Does an adventure tourer fit in with the parts/pieces you may have accidentally seen at the factory last month?

If it turns out to be Blast based, this type of bike was strongly hinted at in this five year old interview....

I don't think the BMW HP2 is a factor. However, the GS series [1150 and 1200] has reportedly been the biggest selling series for BMW. The Tiger has been selling well for Triumph and the V-Strom 650 has done well for Suzuki. In terms of gross numbers, these are still bikes for a niche market. Since Buell seems to cater to a niche market, it isn't surprising they they would want a piece of this one.

The adventure touring crowd seems to have allot of disposable income and accessorize heavily....hmmm?

I don't know if it will actually translate into sales, but several Harley riders I have visited with while riding my BMW Dakar have expressed an interest in "going off road some." They would be more likely to purchase an American made bike capable of doing so. I know when I brought the Dakar home, the wife said..."Okay...so where is yours?" She might "inherit" the Dakar and I may swap out the City X for this new one.

If you consider a dual sport bike to be 50/50 or 60/40 pavement/off pavement, then these bikes and the new Buell [probably] won't meet that criteria.

While it is a subjective measure, adventure touring bikes seem to be designed around an 80/20 ratio and that 20% off pavement is
realistically represented by reasonably well maintained roads.

I didn't time the pavement/off pavement segments of the teaser but I'll bet it isn't too far from the 80/20 mark and the unpaved roads at the end of the trailer look to be in pretty good shape....pretty much the standard adventure touring template. I'm really curious to see Buell's interpretation of it!
