Anyone have suggestions for chaps to cover pants for commuting to work?

I recommend against chaps. Get some Joe Rocket mesh pants to cover your work pants. I went down on my old Honda interceptor once with chaps on back in the 80's and I lost about 3 lbs of a$$ meat and endured some substantial grafting. But if you're not going to be exceeding the sound barrier and feel your butt is not so sacred, most leather places sell chaps for HD folk. Just get 'em big enough to cover your pants. But I still recommend mesh pants, they're cooler.

I love my chaps,

For days when you just don't feel like wearing the full leather.

Your right about not protecting your arse.

Thats the part CJ likes: D

BTW, there is a guy named Dino running around K-Town on a HD with a black & white leopard style paint job. The guy is part owner of Atlas Gym & is proud of his body....likes to wear a thong & his chaps while riding his bike.

I'm sorry & I really don't mean to offend anyone, but chaps are so freaking gay. I just wouldn't be caught dead in them.... Again, no offense meant.

I've been wearing those Draggin' jeans this summer, the kevlar lined ones, and find them to be quite comfortable in place of my leathers.

You know, I always thought that chaps looked a bit odd. Well, that was until I got caught in 32F temps one night. I sure don't think that anymore.

Offended? Nah. I've got a pair of chaps. They're comfortable. I can get where I'm going and take them off - and only have shorts underneath. No need to change, etc.

Am I worried about my a$$ if I crash? Not really - it needs to lose several pounds anyway.

At some point I'll pick up something better, but I needed something asap and they were cheap.

To each there own...

*disclaimer* We apologize if the use of the word gay offends anybody. It is not being used in a derogatory manner towards homosexuals, it is being used in fun. One could easily replace the word gay in all the above posts with the word stupid and have a similar effect. Gay just fits better.

:-)

chaps are for rodeo wannabees and HD boutique shoppers....jeez

Turns out I use both chaps and leathers, depending on what's going on that day. The chaps are an old brown pair of shotguns that I've had since I was a kid (Cowboy's not the only cow-guy in this bunch )and they work very well for their intended purpose.

When I'm doing my farm inspections a full set of leathers is not practical. I ride 40-60 miles and then spend the next several hours on field tours and report writing. Slogging around in 90 degree weather wearing full leather is a potential hazard as great as not wearing any leather at all while riding. So there, you big fat gay-sayers!

what about some nice overpants? I commute to school and don't have time to deal with changing from leathers to scrubs (medical). Some overpants with long zippers would be nice.

Check out the FirstGear HT Air overpants.

Uhh, I've got nice Vanson leather pants...waaaayy to hot in summer. I've got unlined leather pants made to fit over jeans and they're still too warm for summer wear in the midwest...my CHAPS fit loose enough to wear comfortably over jeans in summer, offer excellent wind and debris protection and have enough scrapes on them to attest to their worthiness as leg protection in nasty get offs. In fact, I have some really nice leather stashed away for the intended purpose of making some CHAPS with motorcycle related tooling and stampings all over them!!

I'm happy to be among an older group that isn't narcissistic and overly image conscious. My riding experience, while not as intense as others in this group, has instilled a bit of a utilitarian attitude. One day I will have a 'stitch...in the mean time, next time I ride, I'll be sportin' CHAPS!!!

Scooter - LOL, yeah he was gay in the homosexual sense and not the uncool sense of the word. On second thought he wasn't very cool either. I could live with the homosexual part ( although I don't like it) but the corruption of his administration was utterly unbelievable. He made the Sopranos look like alter boys. Only in Jersey ......

I'd actually consider chaps if they covered my a$$ too. Crotchless leathers that you can remove without taking your boots off might be a good idea.

Too funny!!! You guys are crackin' me up.

Chaps are fine for a little extra protection and warmth. However, if you get caught in the rain on the way to work in them you are in for a lot of teasing about the wet spot.
