Bad News!!!

144 miles and one of the cylinders is not bangin'. I called the dealership, and they said bring it in next Tuesday(05-07-02), mind you today is Monday(04-29-02), and I just picked up the damn bike Friday(04-26-02) night. Needless to say, I put the bastard on the back of my truck and delivered it in less than a half hour to the dealer, I am sick of looking at it. So far this is the skinny...

Day 1: Rear turn signals almost fall off, tighten myself, no trip to shop...
Day 2: Stop at dealership to let them know that I feel the bike is "doggin' it" and was told that it is because I have been breaking it in properly, under 3,000 rpm's.
Day 3: Rain, only 12 miles recorded, no problems.
Day 4: Notice rear sprocket cover is falling off, must be vibration...Hmmmm... Also notice one cylinder not working, pissed off beyond belief... I hope I made the right choice.

Please tell me everything will be okay...

Sounds like very poor dealer setup. Go in and raise cain. They should have checked for loose bolts etc.

I agree w/S3 dave. Unfortunetly this happens. When I bought my S2 it had 4500 miles and the dealer was supposed to do a 5000 mile service for me. Didn't happen. Severly loose drive chain, The back tire was off 7mm!! among a few other things. You should get to know your bike and a good start is the readings in and on this web site. I have found them extreamly useful. You will not find a more dedicated bunch of BUELL enthusiast Get on the dealer and tell them you want to ride DAMN IT!!

Ride on

Hang tough, the X1 is a fantastic motorcycle, of all the riders in Buelldom, the X1 pilots seem to be the most dedicated and enthusiastic.

YOU CANNOT DEPEND ON YOUR DEALER

The dealer you bought from is merely a conduit through which HD supplies their products and that in turn supplies HD with $$. That your dealer has a 'shop' and 'technicians' is irrelevant...

As above, pour over this site, especially the X1-Files link. Obtain the parts and service manuals for your bike, a modest set of tools and you'll have a finer appreciation for 'things Buell'.

...think of your 'dealer' as a minor obstacle to be overcome, an illusion meant to frighten small children, a Siren trying to empty your wallet...

Sounds like they were dooging it at the dealership or they just kept starting it on the floor and reving it causing the plugs to foul, how many miles were on it when it was delivered? They come with zero off the crate and the techs put 5 miles on it after prep.

Christos,

I can't say I agree with all the above about all dealerships being pieces of sh@t. However, there are some bad dealers out there. I had to try three dealership before I found one that I liked. Check the "Rate your Dealership" board for suggestions on a good dealer near you.

Good Luck with the X1.

There were only 6 miles on it at delivery, and so far the dealership has been okay. When I called today they said it will be looked at either today or tomorrow. I was told that they changed the plugs the day of delivery, because starting and stopping it in the showroom. Maybe something got screwed up then. As far as the nuts and bolts loosening, I may have to get some lock-tite and do some of the stuff myself.

Don't worry about it, you have made the right choice.

I picked up my S1 and the first ride was 1500km to get home, by the time I got there I was missing two bolts from the rear fender and various others loose.

I quickly got a service manual and a large bottle of loctite. I do most of my own service as I do not have a Buell Dealer that is closer than 1500km from me. I have a Harley Dealer but they are not a Buell Dealer so they can not do any warranty work for me. Overall my bike has had the headlight reflector come loose, rear shock failure (replaced under warranty), the ever famous rocker box leak (replaced with steel gaskets). These small problems are nothing compared to the thrill I get from riding the bike

Keep the faith, the Buell is the way to go.

COOL there is a cross refrence for the o2 sensor on the X1 files that you can get from the Autoparts store that are always in stock an cheaper. Drag specialties sells a high performance o2 sensor that really stands up to the tourture.
