5 years ago I walked into Dudley Perkin’s to buy a Blast, but was turned down without explanation or reason. So I went to Cycle Center in Freemont and bought a new Blast there. I figured Dudley Perkins could do services or any warrantee work and get paid well for it since they have the highest rates in the Nation. My first service came at 500 miles and I received the bike back in good condition. At the 1000 mile service the shifter came loose as I was leaving the store so I asked them to fix it. Now Irish is a great guy (sevice mngr) but something must have gotten into him that day because taking the bike up and back down to be delivered back to me brought several scratches on my frame – thus ending their right to do maintenance work on my bike and leaving them only warranty work. A few years down the road I bought a red Blast from them used. Every time there was a warranty issue – I made an appointment, still ended up waiting extra days and received the bike back dirtier than when I brought it in, but at least the bike got fixed. A few years down the road and my new girlfriend decides she'd like to learn to ride. So I call DP set up an appointment (lol) to have the rockercover done (my fault – thought I could reuse the old – you can’t) and look over the bike. I get a call saying that the front wheel bearing needs replacing, so I ask how is the back and they reply that they only found a problem with the front. So I finally pick up the bike and at the end of the test ride (yes the bike was still dirty) I look over the work and then I look at the rear for comparrison – I see no dust jacket on the rear bearing – sigh - they had obviously not checked it – I called – they picked the bike up and fixed it, and when I finally got it back I noticed that the back wheel now matched the front in greasy finger smudges – sigh…I’m pretty sure I’ll use Peninsula HD/Buell from now on for any work – my buddy Scott swears by them, and though DP has a very good parts counter, and Irish is a great guy – still their service and treatment of my bikes has been a very unsatisfactory experience overall and I could never recommend them for any service on a Buell. My opinion.

Why post this - because some day we will have a Dealer review section and I want to make sure this is added to the list and other Bueller's warned.

You're just not going to please everyone all the time. There are dealers I swear by that have horrible reputations with some people, and some dealers that have great reputations that can't do anything right.

My recent experience with one dealer was so bad, it went beyond irritating to a tragic, surrealistic comedy. Don't ever tell anyone at a dealership that they couldn't have done their job any worse, because they will prove you wrong.

Ed,

I believe you, man. I am leaning to McGuires out here. Those guys just seem to care about Buellers sooo much. They continue to come to American Sport Bike Night meetings, which tells me that they see themselves as Buellers and not just people who make a living off of BUellers.

Ed, I hereby ORDER you to move to the East Bay and submit to McGuires. I order you in the name of decency man!!!

Great scott!! [clap, clap] More coffee!!

I didn't say they are the worst, just that they back shelf Buell riders, have little care for the bikes, and only do the minimum nescessary to get by, however, if you ride an HD - you can get a loaner, your bike will shine like new when you pick it up, and it gets better from there - that kind of treatment difference should not be so obvious but it is there - lol

I brought my Buell in a couple weeks ago for warranty work. The ignition fuse kept blowing. The tech was really cool and appologetic for having trouble finding the cause & for taking so long. At the end of the day the bike was not ready so they let me borrow Tom Perkin's 2003 Fatboy. The yellow one that sits in the showroom in the parts department. I went back three days later and the bike still wasn't ready. I was told that they found the culprit (chaffed wire harness & wire in the steering stem area) but the right hand switch assembly was faulty & a new one had to be ordered. So... They let me keep the fatboy for another week. When my bike was ready the tech came out & appologized again for taking so long and said that he wasn't too schooled on the xbs and had to take the books home & he had shorted the switch assembly while searching for the grounded wire. That won me over. I'm not used to dealing with such honest techs. He was a nice guy and he did the best he could & in the end the bike was fixed & better than new.

Not to mine and others - my guess is that you also own Harley bikes and that is why you got the HD treatment, because I can give you a good list of Buell owners whose experiences are simmular to mine - of course if you own an HD your ok there - and that loaner bike is the proof.

thanks for the sense of humour, Ezblast. I seriosuly dig blasts- I see 'em as being like a BSA 441 Victor for nowadays.
They seem especially suited for "the city", and they look great out in front of Zeitgeist
Jon, I was in Dud's a few times this winter, when I was living in Carmel.
Being back in NY again, I'm not going to be at Dud's for the next few months.

Ahhh - sorry to hear your in NY - yeah - the red one was mine at Zeit. and the Black - well I'm taking that out to play with this weekend - its amazing what dropping the price again and blood sweat and tears into a bike will do for its performance - lol - I really like the Black's kick, it keeps up with that modded SV650 that the DP tech owns just fine, though he can still ditch the red - lol - You pop back into SF let me know - we'll go ride to Stinson Beach via the Panoramic highway for S&G's.

court, crusty, acknowledged and concurred!
while i sorta liked the 441, the lower ends
were held together by unobtanium alloy woodruff keys that were softer than candied yams.
howzabout those inane lightnings and thunderbolts (BSA, NOT Buell) with the bushing on one end of the crankshaft...can you say "grenade"?
I played with those things through High School and years after...oh, the humanity...

hey court i love the british steel but must admit when i traded a 441 for a leather i really made out on the deal.

as for all this problem dealer talk, the ugly truth is...it aint gonna get no better,it never has. ok maybe if we all send hand written letters (being polite)to milwaukee demanding that buell sever its' dealer ties with the almighty cash cow known to all the tuff guy dentists'and lawyers as harley davidson. (can i get sued for that)then it might get better.

>>>>the ugly truth is...it aint gonna get no better

That's an inaccurate statement.

It's gotten TREMENDOUSLY better and has all the signs of continuing to improve. There are a ton of hurdles, mostly political and egocentric.

I gots ta agree.
Nothing will improve i'f we've set our collective opinion to thinking that it won't.
There ARE signs albe'em subtle, of improvement at sevreal dealerships that i've seen, esp. after being away from regions for 4-6 month stretches.

True but I'm tired of waiting for DP - I hear Golden Gate is really stepping up - I think that will be my new Dealer of choice.
Yuppers going to Rocky Point! I'll get points from the SFMC for doing so also - lol

The last I heard, Golden Gate just got two new Buell techs. I'll be trying them next time. Not because I don't like DP but cause it's much closer & I already have good relations with them since I get all my Sporty parts from them. They were lacking in the Buell department but like you said, I think that's changing. After a year long absence of Buells on the floor, they currently have a black 12R on the floor and man is she beautiful.

i don't know about that things are better talk. people seem to be getting dumber, lazier, and greedier, and damn near everyone at these harley dealers seems to have a chip on their shoulder. the technology seems to be advancing so fast that a wrench would need to be in an almost constant state of schooling. i don't know maybe it's just my uncontrolable optimism getting the best of me again.

I was there today checking them out and passing on my service record to them. There was a 12 R Black and a 12 S Black as well. They gave away some free food and snagged the link to the BADWEB to check out real Buell fans - they instantly thought it a great resource - not the blausse attitude of DP who seem to know everything and nothing at the same time - lol. The Golden Gate crew seemed friendly and helpfull - I'd sure like to see them carry a few more Buell accessories, still for a relatively new shop Its probably only a matter of time.
