I read an interesting article recently about creating a "Life List". It's basicly a list of things you'd like to do during your lifetime. Some can be small (drag a knee) while others may be large (fly into space).

I've started my list recently. While it's still a work in progress (as it should be) and quite small, here's a sampling from my list:

-Attend a race car school
-Teach (not sure what yet)
-Hike the rim of an active volcano
-Travel the Pan-American Highway by motorcycle
-Set a land speed record (I have an obscure idea for this one. Sending some info around to get specifics. I think it's an uncharted category)
-Drag a knee (remember that from above: D )

So what's on your list???

The first one that comes to my mind...

Attend a party at the Playboy Mansion while Hef is still alive...and as long as I'm dreaming, be the first Man on Mars!

Prudhoe Bay, AK by bike
Key West, FL by bike
Build a car basically from scratch (one only, no delusions of starting a new company)
Help put my nieces and nephew (11yrs, 8yrs, 7mos) through college
Own a house free and clear (only 14 years to go!)
Forgot one: California Assemblyman, 25th District
...

Hmm. I really thought this topic would get more response.

I wanted my next adventure to be an ultralight. But if the Wall mart guy couldn't buy a safe one, I might have to rethink that.

I'm afraid to make a list because I may just complete it and then what?

I have done it all from sky diving to scuba diving. Won't do two things:

Bungee jump - you have to insane to trust your life to a carnival ride (and that is all that it is) and besides I won't tell anyone my true weight.

Hang Glide - Trust a kite that could loose lift then crash and burn (They were killing a bunch at Point Fermin in San Pedro Ca. a few years ago.)

It's a well documented fact that those who set goals and write them down have a much, much higher chance of accomplishing them. You must write them down and place them somewhere that you'll see them everyday.

Needless to say I have mine written down and encourage others to do the same.

There are personal goals (private) and public goals. Public goals are the ones you tell everyone about. The idea is that if you tell others about your goals they can help you attain them.

I.E. one of mine a few years ago was to attend a track day, well that's been done many times over, now but partly because I talked about it and others convinced me to do it by going with them.

Here are a few of mine...

Learn to play the guitar - doing that now and it's one of the toughest tasks I've ever tried but great fun!!

Get my motorcycle roadracing licence, no delutions here!!

Finish my M.A.

Build my own house

My Life List is pretty short. I've done a lot of the things that I want(ed) to do already. However, the number one thing for me is definitely outer space. Zero G living for a few days has got to be just mind blowing. Not to mention, the view of the Earth has got to be breathtaking. I've seen pictures of the Earth from space and it looks really cool, but to see it with your own eyes has got to be beyond words. It must be like seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time, or having sex for the first time, -- but maybe even better. Now, I don't know that it will ever happen -- but I'm hopeful. I guess second to that would be seeing some of the world wonders like the pyramids at Giza, Victoria Falls, and some of the weird world wonders like the giant 6 foot earthworms in Australia, Cadillac Ranch, coelacanth, Stonehenge, Colossal Squid, Chupacabra....

Actually Madagascar, Egypt, and Japan are all on my list of places to see. I'd also like to drive an F1 car on city streets... just once.

life goals i've attained
college degree (1996)
taken a year off to play (1996)
survived by working 4 jobs at one time (1996)
take a trip to someplace new alone (1997, actually 1984 but i was just a kid doing an "unaccompanied minor" plane flight - although it was to asia from texas!)
got a harley (1998)
started a company (1999)
got a buell (2004)
spend significant time abroad (2004, 6 weeks)
got my motorcycle roadracing license (2005)
got a ducati (2005)
masters degree (2005)
bought a house (2005)
got a great job that i can see myself at for a long while (2005)

things yet to happen (in order of materialistic, to serious stuff):

i want to own a super silly impractical sportscar - perhaps a lotus elise or corvette z51 or an old shelby cobra....

i want a fancy sedan - perhaps a bmw 645ci convertible or a cadillac cts-v

start motorcycle racing on the roadracing circuit

other toy possibilities - mini cooper, audi tt, vespa scooter, dirtbike, atv, jetski, snowmobile, small plane, power boat, maybe a sail boat.... : )

get a pole barn set up in the country to hold all my playtoys, because i like living in the city!

get a new dog as a playmate for my 4 yr old black lab - maybe a springer spaniel in the next few years?

i want to get rid of my school and credit card debt - and pay off my house (although my toy wish list makes that difficult!)

i want to learn to cook (started with some baking classes)

i want to learn to sing.

i want to learn to dance.

i want to travel extensively, go "native" on all continents (starting with italy and greece next month, and australia/china/mexico soon after that). see amazing sunrises and sunsets in all corners of the world, try different cuisines, understand different cultures, meet new people, appreciate things that i am new to.

i want to marry someone who i connect with emotionally, physically, intellectually, and socially. someone to play with for a lifetime. and one day, be a good mother.

i want to take care of my parents as they get older, to thank them for all the gifts i was given.

i want to make a difference in this world, by helping someone less fortunate than i am - through hands-on interaction, like helping someone get back on their feet and back to work - getting someone's self-esteem and self-sufficiency back - inspiring someone to see that they can become something better. i'd rather make a huge difference in a small amount of lives than donate anonymously to a charity superfund.

My life list is short and simple, live for another year. I have been beating those odds every year so far since 1988. With the number of times "I should have died" I am very happy to keep that as my life list, everything else is just gravy : )

Buellgirlie-I salute you. All that charisma and you're not married yet? You must be intimidating(sp?) the guys. Hey if they can't hang, leave'em.

1) Go to college, done and doing again.
2) Financially stable, learned that this is almost impossible with the desire for TOYS!
3) Wanted to be a pilot in USAF, long story that required organ transplant
4) Get new Kidney(see above), done Oct 5th,04
5) Get married have family, done Oct 24th, 98
6) would really like to tour Europe on Moto.
7) I think going into space for a while would also be pretty cool.
8) Live long enough to watch the world change some more, still waiting!

Done some adventure stuff since I was too young to realize I coulda/shoulda had a list. Now it's pretty basic:

Return to New Guinea
Get at least one more podium finish

The above, I've done before and want to do again. some things I've NEVER done:

Balance my checkbook.
Pay off my VISA
S**t regular

call me selfish, but i want MY genetic material to continue my legacy of fun-loving idiocy after i'm gone, and while my cats are a great boon to this end, we share no genetic encoding, AND i'll outlive 'em, especially at the rate they party....

Mine was:
Get married have kids and live the American Dream!
Accomplished all the above until 12/22/1995 when
my wife passed away. Sure do miss her!

Now:
Survive until my son turns 18. Seven years to go
and then I can have a life again(fingers crossed).
Probably be like a kid in a candy store. I won't
know what to do or where to go first. laughs
I would like to ride to/through all the lower 48
states in one trip. Never know... I have penty of
time to plan it all out.

Thanks to all that posted... you have definately
given me some ideas.

hey tramp,

i've yet to do it...but, i hear they got places where you can go and drop off a batch. not the kind where you pay. they actually pay you to leave a little something when you go. think about it...theoretically you could have a little tramp about every other day or so. don't know how old you are but i'm figuring in even 5 years time you could have started a small army. you just wouldn't know where they are. or how much they cost to maintain. this way when someone wins the nobel peace prize for curing aids or cancer you can say "that might be my son/daughter". on the other side of the coin...you have the same deal with the next bundy/hitler. if you want to test out a big one (19 years old) let me know. he even knows how to burn out and how to crash buells.
