The latest issue of MCN has a So. Cal. commute comparison between the Burgman and an Expedition.

The writer was impressed with how the Burgman handled and dealt with traffic.

Around here least up till now most scooter riders were people who had DUI convictions. Don't need a license to ride one.

Not positive but I am pretty certain every state requires a an operator to have a valid drivers license in order to operate a scooter. Most have a provision that if its less than 50cc & doesnt exceed 30 mph then they do not need a motorcycle endorsement.

I can't vouch for that thing...but the Honda Silverwing will go over 100mph, and will surprise a guy on a 600 sportbike at a stoplight. Continuously variable belt drive makes for great gear reduction! Just don't tell anyone I said I rode one!!!

50cc & doesnt exceed 30 mph

That's probably it right there. Though I think the speed might be more. Could be wrong though.

Burgman 650, 112 mph+, three transmission modes, engine not attached to the swingarm, full length front forks, wide radial tires. The thing is more of an auto-motorcycle than scooter. There is nothing like going up a mountain pass two-up and passing people on the inside of corner, in the passing lane, with the centerstand throwing sparks.

I could have sworn I saw a Honda Silverwing in the Mountains of NC a few weeks ago when I was on leave. I didn't catch the make of the other bike, but I know the other one was the Silverwing. Up in them thar hills slicing and dicing them thar corners with it. : )

I've ridden the big Honda and Aprilia super scooters. They will rock but I'm not really a twist and go guy.

I never considered myself a twist and go guy,(I won't own a car with an automatic) but the wife and I were looking for something for two-up riding. Most of the sport tourers cost twice as much. As we only weigh about 275 together the Burgman 650 works for us. We figure we won't miss shifting if we get stuck behind a bunch of Winnebago's when visiting national parks.
