I don't know if it's good karma, good looks or just my lucky week. The last couple weeks I've snorting around ND, SD, IA and NE and have met several LEO's the highway. They've city cops, highway patrol, deputies, the whole shebang. Every time I've been going well-above the posted limit, and not once has an officer even touched their brakes. No finger shaking, no nothing. It's as if I'm invisible on my trusty steed. Are the S3's made w/ stealth technology? Do the fairings absorb the radar signal in their polyrazmataz carbon fiber construction? Or am I just going so fast the cops don't even see me. The world may never know. Rob | ||

Rob, To a certain extent I am wondering if the cops have just given up. I don't see cars pulled over much anymore and the general traffic flow is at least 10 over the posted limit. While we were doing the Arizona Springfast in April the front riders met a couple of Sheriff cars while going WAY over the limit. The officers just turned on their lights and motioned for them to slow down. In reality it makes sense to let people speed if the conditions warrant it. It's because of the bozos that still drive fast in heavy traffic, snow, rain, etc. that screws it for the rest of us. | ||

Been LEO for 10 yrs now. Just my opinion but with the more powerful liter bikes out there and less and less experienced riders on them I dont want to bother with them. Where I am if I hit the overheads they run.. now put that with little to no experience and you've got a big mess on your hands. I do keep an eye out for them when gassing up and usually have a chat with them later on. Unless its seriously a danger to the public I leave them alone. Besides the violence in my city is off the wall an we dont have much time for tickets anyway. | ||

It's odd, there is a stretch of hwy here in northern california. Hwy 680, and from Concord to San Jose, everyone does 80mph(in a 65 zone) without blinking. I hardly see the CHP pulling anyone over. I think they only get people that are going beyond the flow of traffic, and the ones that are zipping in and out. Other than that, they could have their pick. | ||

Right after my post this morning I went into town to visit a buddy that had a horse fall on him and broke his pelvis. There was a speed trap set up coming into town and they had two pulled over. By the way, I told him that he should take up a safe sport, like motorcycling. | ||

Plenty o' speedtraps in my local this and last weekend. By some sort of good luck, I was not in an "aggressive mood". | ||

Last week there was a big effort to ticket fast and aggressive drivers on the beltline and interstates around Raleigh. I think the LEOs were writing about 250 tickets a day. One thing I appreciated was how much the LEOs publicized the effort. It was mentioned in the newspaper and on the local TV stations before it started. That makes it seem much more like an attempt to protect people than simply as an excercise to generate revenue. And a friend of mine STILL got a ticket.  | ||

in vegas they had a sting awhile back where the fuzz were dressed as phone line workers,construction workers,flyer peddlers,and other various non lawenforcement employees,and they were speed trapping ppl left and rite..it made the news..forgot what they called the sting..all i know is i almost got nailed from one that was in a crows nest on a phone truck about 35 ft up in the air...creative little devils... i was raised in a law enforcement family so i know they're just doing their job...but come on now... it's called an unmarked car.. talk about a waste of taxes... especially with all the drugs and violent crimes they have here... | ||

I guess a better question would be does it make if difference if both vehicles are in motion? i.e. When I meet them on the road vs them sitting in behind the billboard. Just curious, met two Rez cops today and again, not even a nod in my direction (cruising about 85mph). Rob | ||

The fact that so many people speed tells you what most people think of the speed limit. Cops are probably pretty much like everyone else in their opinions. Back in the days of the 55 mph national speed limit, states had to at least keep up the appearance of enforcing the limit. Now they can do what they want. | ||

kind of off the speed limit deal, but cops around here(central ohio) have been placing ads this summer and last with the local radio stations basically saying that they are watching bikers, mostly the guys riding aggresively but also the loud ones, which can mean some of us in both cases |
