This is a cool website I found a while back, the "Internet Archive". My family got me a discontinued Buell leather jacket for father's day, so I went here to see if I could find info on it (which I did). No doubt there is some cool stuff buried there. cool! from the July 16, 1997 listing: BLUE GROOVE '97...JULY 19-20...FINAL DETAILS Accommodations are available at The Ramada Plaza Hotel. Call 503/233-2401 to make reservations. Saturday, July 19 Erik Buell will be one of the enthusiasts participating in the Adventure Ride. Registration runs from 8 - 9 a.m. at Horseshoe Lake Park in Woodland, Washington, on Interstate 5 just north of Portland. The Ride starts at 9 a.m. sharp. Lunch will be served during the ride, and will be followed by a casual bike show, with "people's choice" judging. Prizes will be awarded. The ride will end at the Portland International Raceway between 1:30 - 3 p.m. The Buell Demo Trailer will be located in the main parking lot, in the area southeast of the tower. BattleTrax will run from 3 - 6 p.m. There will not be a parade lap on Saturday... Erik will be the Guest of Honor at a dinner with fellow Buell aficionados at Elmer's Restaurant, adjacent to Portland International Raceway. Dinner will be followed by a Roundtable Discussion with Erik. Topics to include Buell history, racing and Buell's niche in the marketplace. 7 - 9 p.m. Saturday & Sunday, July 19-20 Buell Demo rides at the Portland International Raceway, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday, July 20 Ride with Erik to Latus Motors for pancake breakfast, 8 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Erik will lead Buell owners in a parade lap around the raceway about Noon. Buell Lightning Series Race and 102 Race. Racing action will begin shortly after parade lap. I almost cried when the Buell website went to the current format. I LOVED the technical details they showed, the computer graphics of the stress testing, how and why thier suspentions worked, all the cool technical details they showed us. Now is just another website. | ||

A bit of Buell website trivia.... It used to be done by Motorcycle dot com, and was on their servers. I have the whole site archived on CD around here somewhere. After I pointed out that the hosting company had semi-nude pictures of Tiffani-Amber Thiessen on it's site, it was closed down, and Buell started their own site. Eventually it was taken over by Harley-Davidson, and done with the same software and development companies that they use. Anyone else here remember Tiffani? I still have those pictures around here somewhere too.  | ||

Court, Interesting to hear about the new website. Buell had a very short duration survey about their website sometime back (which allowed you to download a free Buell screensaver if you completed it) and I was wondering if anything would come of that. Here's something I found on the 1996 webpage that I wasn't aware of: "In 1995, Buell Motorcycle Company became the first motorcycle manufacturer to establish a Web site." That's pretty cool. | ||

The early Buell site had a lot of innovative web technology. PDF files of the S1 maintenance manual. QuickTime and QuickTime VR files. Tour of the factory. I'll see if I can find that CD. It is in the garage with over 5,000 other CDs. I know that is was during my Cisco days in 1998-1999, so that may narrow it down. Jim |
