Anyone else seen this? It was posted to Edmunds a week ago but I just came across it today. I hadn't really followed the new Z06 information. I knew was going to be fast, but I didn't realize it was going to be 7 liters of funk fast.

Powering the C6 Z06 is a hand-assembled, 7,000-rpm 7.0-liter — that's 427-cubic-inch — normally aspirated small-block V8 called the LS7. It's an all-aluminum engine filled with exotic engineering, such as titanium connecting rods and intake valves, sodium-filled exhaust valves, a dry-sump oiling system, a forged-steel crankshaft and computer-machined cylinder-head porting. Horsepower and torque are a mind-bending 505 and 470 lb-ft, and it's all routed to the Vette's massive 19-inch rear tires through a six-speed manual transaxle.

Of course, the new Z06 isn't likely to receive sunset orange or magnesium tone wheels . . .

careful kids, when I went to that URL, my firewall returned:

This includes an icon that contains a large number of images or an icon with one or more overlapping images. and auto-blocked it...

May be nothing, may not...

pretty cool stuff -- wonder if you'll be able to get the GM employee discount on it?

not that I could afford it even then

Not only can't you get the employee price on the Z06, you can't get the employee price on ANY 'Vette.

I already looked.

GM (AFAIK) never offers ANY incentive on the Corvette.

Excellent point. I think the first few months after 9-11-01 they had some discounts, but when the offer was extended, it specifically excluded Corvette. Oh well, I'll have ~$3000 GM card points by the time I'm ready to buy, that'll help a little... even if they only allow me to use $2500 worth

Just checked, GM only allows $1000 GM card points toward the purchase of a Vette... Effers

Watched it again when I got home from work- still amazing.

"Factory Corvette Team Driver" . . . man, can you imagine if that was your job title?!?

You can pick up a good used C5 Corvette with a measly 345hp in the mid-$20k range right now, but somehow I don't think my wife would go for it.

I love the fact that this is still basically a small block Chevy V8, circa 1955. Yet, with many changes in the internal materials, design etc. they get an engine that is just very impressive but with no complexity of multi valves, Multi cams, etc.

Gotta love the Chevy V8. Wonder if those materials and related items can be applied to a VTWIN. Hmm, a more powerful, lighter Buell engine?????

Gotta love it.

Slap a Lingenfelter Supercharger on a C5 and you've got sub 4 second 0-60 times! The kit is like $10k with a groovey new hood if I remember correctly. That's what I would like to do with some spare cash...so I guess I will be dreaming for a while.
