I recently read the thread on insurance, I believe on the XBoard. I posted what I was paying with Progressive and also noted that others were paying significantly less. One company mentioned was Sentry Dairyland Insurance. I called them today and well, Progressive is gonna be pissed. Sentry quoted me a price of $426 for my XB9S and Blast. I was paying over $1500 with Progressive. I hate insurance companies as a rule and would never plug one, but hey, I saved over $1k per year. That leaves me more money to patronize the sponsors here!

I don't think that Progressive will be pissed or sad to see you go.
I firmly believe that they [ins co's] inflate rates on bikes that they
"don't" want to insure.

I was just informed that USAA no longer offers coverage for Motorcycles. If you have a policy with a motorcycle it will continue, and they might be able to add another one if you purchase one in the future but only if you already have one on the policy. (I got this information directly from USAA today when going over my policy with them)

USAA will be using Progressive as their provider for motorcycle insurance.- Great
Obviously it will be a separate policy and of course higher premiums.

Dairyland is great for motorcycles. I got an agents card at Hal's when I bought my S3T. After huge quotes from Secura who has my home and car Jim Moekler quoted me less than $400 a year. That's good!

I had USAA and they moved me over to Foremost out of Grand Rapids, Michigan (I live in KS) and it only cost me $80 a year (yes, $80) for liability only. Not sure what full coverage would be, but it couldn't be anywhere near $1500 like Progressive. I wonder why USAA told Along4 that they are using Pregressive. Maybe it depends on where you live?

I also use USAA for coverage on my M2. Full coverage and 250 deduct cost 57 a month. What I found out is that they use outside venders if your ride experince(sp) is low. I have a combinded total of 24 years on bikes and they are my police holders.

I'm sitting here thinking....what if Badweb, with it's 6550 registered users, folks started getting Sentry Dairyland quotes in mass?

Imagine, of all the things we enjoy, the buying power we wield *IF* we organize it properly.

Imagine a "Badweb Codicil" to an insurance policy that provides for 10% (thanks DaveS) off replacement parts and an "I was an idiot, that one's on me" exclusion.

Me thinks the ring is there....do we reach for it?

Sentry Dairyland are a lot more straightforward to deal with than Progressive- and cheaper too ,for me!

If Progressive has got such good CRM systems and techniques ,why did they send me information telling me about their bike insurance when I was already insured with them.

Despite the commercials my feeling is that like a lot of insurance companies in the UK, they are trying to make bikes uninsurable via stealth tactics probably with some covert support from the local and state safety lobbies.

I use a insurance broker, Fernet. When Progressive went up on my rates I changed to Dairyland. The girl at Fernet said that Progressive had a large number of claims on HD's which were expensive and were raising their rates to cover their losses. This was on my Yamaha FZ1.

It quite possibly could depend on where you live. They probably have a 'partnership' of some sort with Progressive in my area and different agency's in other areas.

What I found out is that they use outside venders if your ride experince(sp) is low.
Both of my bikes are covered with USAA. I called to get them a separate policy for one of my bikes. USAA makes you carry the same coverages for all your insured vehicles and I wanted to lower the coverage on one of my bikes that is when they transfered me to their 'outside vendor' who happened to be Progressive.

The person at Progressive told me that USAA wouldn't be covering Motorcycles anymore and I called USAA back and asked them what the scoop was. I didn't want to have my bikes canceled at my renewal without some heads-up. But that isn't the case, if you have bikes covered they will still be covered just no more new ones.

Count me in!!! What I'd like even better would be an "I'm always an idiot, they're all on me, I just need coverage to be legal" exclusion.

Haven't been around long as some of the old timers... I know with my Z28 group we did group purchases on mods..

But has badweb done group purchases??
(hint...hint...sponsors)

Please sponsors don't take this suggestion/idea wrong (we are more than grateful for your discounts and support)..

Just expanding on Court's idea...
"Imagine, of all the things we enjoy, the buying power we wield *IF* we organize it properly."

I am sure the sponsors would love to have order for 100 (or 6000) "enter part name here"...

I'm in. I take it Dairyland is nationwide? I have the lizard, and pay a couple grand a year for full coverage. I also have the highest possible coverage, and I would suggest everyone does. If you carry minimum, your insurance company will be less inclined to fight for you in a lawsuit if you have 15K. They would rather cut a check and be done. My bosses wife was in a minor accident, and I say minor because there was no damage at all. Bosses wife bumped her from behind. The two looked at the cars and said everything was ok, so they left. The next week she was served. Was sued for half a million dollars. The lady came into court wearing a neck brace, the works. Boss had full, max insurance. The insurance company ended up settling for 50K or something like that. So, if you had 15K coverage, guess were that 35K is coming from?? Just a suggestion. Anyway. If Dairyland is nationwide, I'll go right in.

After reading this article I called Dairyland for a quote. 04' Xb12r, Washington state and I'm 29. They quoted me something like $750 a year.

My current insurance is through Geico, $350 bucks a year. I think I will stay with what I got!

I too have USAA (20+ years)and they sent me to Progressive for my insurance as well. Progressive wanted my credit report even though I was paying cash, so I told them to kiss it and went with Dairyland. $96 a year for liability only $312 with comp added- Vermont.

It's funny. I see all these low rates, and I cry!! Progressive wanted 7700 a year for what I now pay 2100 with the lizard! I always wonder if I should lower the insurance to the minimum, but once I did that, then I'm sure Murphy will strike!

I've had my last 4 bikes insured with Progressive. I just went online to get a quote for my incoming 2002 M2. Almost $800 a year (choke!).
I then checked Geico. Less than half of what Progressive wanted.
I changed companies.

Just for comparison purposes
NO tickets >5years
Motorcycle course in last 24 months
and member of Motorcycle group
Coverage in Colorado

......................USAA................Geico...............Sentry/Dairyland
Coverage
Deductible .........$500..........$250...............$500
Comprehensive.....100,000.......100,000........100,000
Per accident........300,000.......300,000........300,000
Property................25,000............25,000.........25,000
Uninsured.............100,000.........25,000........25,000
Per accident ..........300,000..............50,000..........50,000
Medical.................50,000..............2,000............5,000 Max medical for Geico and Sentry

Annual
03 Blast..........$657.........$311..........$281

03 XB9R...........$788.........$597..........$696

USAA requires that you carry the same coverage on ALL your vehicles on the policy. I don't need quite that much coverage for uninsured on the Blast so I pulled it off the policy and got a policy with Sentry for it.

I figure the extra couple hundred dollars a year for $50,000 in medical on my XB is worth it.

Looks like Geico and Dairyland are the way to go for bikes for sure.

I've used Dairyland for all my scooters for years. Here in Texas, My X1 Lightning is (liability only) insured at a premium of $52.00/year.

I agree, however, with a previous comment regarding the potential benefit of carrying higher than state minimums (for your cars)for liability--for my motorcycles, the cheapest rate has always served me well.

I've had experiences with those companies a little.Years ago Mercury dropped me cause I wanted to add a third car to my policy??Stupid company. Then I used Progressive. They started raising rates so I went to AAA.I decided to add a second vehicle there and my rate went DOWN.From $700 to $561 for two vehicles.I was sold on AAA.Then I switched bike over.$426 for the X1.This year when I renewed I added the Aprilia Tuono.$371 for Full coverage and $347 for X1 full coverage. If you notice those ads that advertise rates compared to other companies they NEVER include AAA.See why????????? My fried here at work has a new Kawa ZX 7(last one built)he's 32 and was paying $900 to $1400 for just bike.He went to AAA and got $426 last week. You all might want to check with them too. When I wrecked XB9 they payed me MORE than I'd payed for bike......Sometimes the BIG guys are just better!

Like the song says, "You gotta shop around". No one company will be the best for everyone. State, driving record, type of bike, all make a difference, so pick up the phone and get quotes from as many companies as possible. Hopefully, one of them will come through with a good rate for YOU.

Just got my renewal notice from Diaryland. Full coverage on my XB12R and the wife's BMW K75S.

$366 for the year.

Keep in mind - in 2001 I had a $1200 claim, in 2002 the S2 was totaled by a friend ($5840 payoff), and in 2004 I had a $1900 claim.

0 tickets. We're both 27.

We get 10% off for taking the MSF course, 10% off for BRAG membership, and believe it or not, more off for Good Rider renewal (another 10% I believe).

They've been great to deal with.
