so there we are, Lake, Pale and me pounding down the letter roads from Road America back to West Bend (why not West BLend, hmmmm?), when it starts to sprinkle . . . just a couple of drops, no biggie, thinks me to myself -- I ain't gonna pull over to put on my rainsuit, not for just a few drops the drop rate increases, ever so slowly, until I realize it's no longer a sprinkle, it's raining! still, not a frog-strangler, we should just ride it out, yes? within two minutes of that thought, the skies open, I wonder if I've packed my cubit in my tank bag (along with my rainsuit), but Lake and Pale just keep ridin' I figure, they didn't pack rain gear, and why should I make them stop, wait while I get suited up (and get wetter in the process) and stay dry-ish . . .. no, they're both good guys, I should treat em that way then it starts REALLY raining -- I can kinda see Pale's tail light, and hope he can kinda see Lake's, so at aleast we'll all be together should anything stupid happen -- like if for instance we all discover that rain and fresh cow poop is not traction enhancing still, I ain't gonna ask my buds to stand around in the rain and watch me gear up -- just wouldn't be right . . . .. by this time, it IS a frog strangler, I realize my cubit is home next to the new johnson wrench and knuten valve, and, if I squint, I can imagine that Pale's tail light was visable once upon a time still, I think, I'm tough, I ain't gonna hold my buddies up, I'm a biker, I'm the scourge of southeast asia, I don't NEED no stinking rain suit! (by this time, of course, my leathers weigh 30 pounds more, and I wish I'd put overload springs on the MaDeuece . . . . it soonn starts to slack off, I can see Pale's tail light, then Lake's, then the sun comes out, and we arrive in West Blend to blue skies and dry pavement -- ah, to be in the midwest, now that Spring is here we stand in the parking lot, telling lies and war stories (I can tell you the difference sometime, if you're intersted) -- it wasn't THAT bad, I've seen worse, why, one time I needed a snorkel in my helmet! kinda tales . . . . then I caved, related that I had my rain gear with me, and told em I didn't pull off to gear up, not wanting to either scare em (I was riding drag, after all, and didn't want em to think I'd fallen prey to an unplaned cow poop traction experience) or to make em stand around watching me get dry . . . . . so Pale, sez . . . .. wait for it . . . I had my gear too, but I didn't want to make YOU stand around . . . .. and then Lake sez . . . . .. you got it ;-} sheesh, what a buncha maroons! anyways, we've all promised that we'll stop, and make the chuckleheads that didn't bring rain gear (it's June in WIsnconism fergoodnessaeks, it could do anything meteorilogical) stand around with water pooling in their boots btw, By Sidi Sympatex boots ARE waterproof! but the sox wicked up enough rain to have creat a puddle in each boot ;-} |

It's always hard to make yourself stop and suit up, but it's usually worth the trouble. I did the same thing on my first trip to Deal's Gap 2 years ago. Friday night, 7 PM, 70 deg. F in Franklin, NC (~30 miles south of Robbinsville), it starts drizzling. I think "It'll stop in a sec, and my 2 buds following me don't have rain gear." Within ~15 minutes, the bottom had fallen out. Rain stopped but I was soaked to the bone and the temp dropped to about 65. By the time we got to Robbinsville, I was so cold and shaking so bad I almost couldn't sign in at the hotel, and this was in early August! I've been outside in Ohio when the temp was 15 below zero, but I was WAY colder that night in NC. It is NOT smart nor safe to ride like that... |

Ask Kandie about me and stopping to put on rainsuits. Sounds like I would fit in just fine with you guys. |

Gotta love the Aerostich. . . we got in to the rain and lighting.....no problem. I, long ago, usually made it a practice to wait until I was entirely soaked to the bone before I covered myself in plastic.

>Gotta love the Aerostich there was a 40% chance of rain Mon/Tues at CLASS. I was sooo looking forward to zipping up the 'stich, putting up the windshield and rolling on my Sport-Touring tires around the soaked-leather crowd on their shaved tires. You guys are too funny. But Bomber, next time I mistake you for MikeJ pls tell me you're "Bomber" as you confused the hell out of me with your real name. |

So you guys got caught in that downpour too, eh? I found out my Joe Rocket gear ain't *THAT* water resistant Never had a problem before stayin' dry with the JR gear. But when I stopped in Lomira, I was literally POURING the water out of my jacket! BTW, 67 between plymouth and Dundee SUCKS! It's like one giant tar snake in the rain! |
