It's called Guess My Progressive Quote.

My specs: 20 yr. old single male, MSF certification, have had my suzuki insured with them for a year and a half.

The bike: new 2004 Buell XB12S, 1203cc, classified as "sportbike".

How much do you think my quote is for one year of full coverage with state min. required $25k/50k/25k amounts?

You didn't say where you lived, but my guess is $1400.00.

When I was looking at switching to a XB12R, the progressive quote was an increase over what I was already paying for the Hayabusa I was selling!

Try Geico, they seemed a lot more reasonable.

$2200.00. They quoted me $900.00 and then when I got the paperwork they uped it to $2200.00 because of "wrong modifier" Whatever. Dropped 'em like a bad habit.

I'm 24 and married and Progressive quoted me $2500/year with a $1k deductible and $3600/year with a $500 deductible. I can only assume yours is higher. My Firebolt is currently insured under the cheapest policy I could find. It's through some company I had never even heard of and it's still ~$1100/year.

I really wish someone could fix the insurance scandal. It's an absolute sham. Neither my wife or I have ever filed an insurance claim, yet we are still legally forced to pay those bastards.

I've been playing the same insurance game. I've been hopping from one company to the next as Buell quotes increase dramatically over my Rice Burner compadres. Eventually, they will all catch-up to the same high rates. And when that happens, I might have to consider the unthinkable. I don't want to, but I won't spend over $750 a year for insurance on my Buell! Erik WE NEED Help on this issue, PLEASE!!!

Thanks for listening.

Gomo-

If you want to stay under a grand per year do not add an XB. Actually, if you want to stay under two grand do not add an XB. And, of course, it's also dependent on your location.

Age 25, married, and a clean license. I have Geico for auto insurance and thought "hey, I'll surely get a cut rate with combined coverage." wrong!! $1950 a year. A buddy told me to check with Progressive, $1800 a year. Finally settled on State Farm. Better coverage than the others due to their minimum standards and still less than $950 annually. I'll be calling around again soon. Rob

Do the Progressive comparison, then go to the cheapest that they find. I saved a ton on my cars, bikes and home. I was with progressive with the bikes, AMICA for the cars(TRIPLED! for no aparent reason), and Secura for the house. I have it all at Farmers Insurance and I now pay a third of what I was paying just for the cars before they tripled it!

Oh Yeah My estimate for Nasty73z is $4000 being he is twenty years old.

Age 25 clean record, full coverage, live in Kansas City, deductible is $250. Guess what I pay annually.

$205 a year, my brother is 28 and his is $185 a year.

My quote from progressive was $3000 a year.

From what I have heard the longer you stay with your provider the lower your rates, if you have a clean record. Also it helps to have more then one item with your insurance company, I have my pickup and renters insurance with State Farm also. Renters insurance is $13 a month and pickup is $90 a month, I have an 04 Dodge pickup.

My premium TRIPLED!

They basically said I was rated improperly for all those years!

Progressive wan't $5000 for mine. I went with Allstate. Best I could find. Price was $1200 a year for full coverage. My FZR cost the same with partial coverage. I'm 22. These prices are crazy.

So... with all the dumb Newbie videos and guys being able to walk out of a dealership with a new sportbike with no money down, do you think insurance companies even want our business anymore? One wreck out of 100 riders with medical expenses can easily cost them more then they could collect at $300 per rider...

Maybe they are pricing themselves out of the niche on purpose???

Not to mention that out of the top 25 stolen motorcycles (for 2001, it's the most recent I could find) 24 are sportbikes. And yes, the average person and insurance rep. considers a Buell a sportbike.

God no I'm not paying that much. That's one and a half times more than what I paid for my brand new Buell!! I found a local independent agency and is going to do $1400/yr though AIG. Absolute cheapest I could find and I spent like 3 hours on the phone calling around.

I think 2 things come into play on the XB's...

1 - small sample size raises the risk for the insurers (eg - they price base on statistics and the more you have out there, the less exposed you are because you can hedge your exposure).
2 - the XB frame - it's a wonderful thing but the problem is that most insurers believe you scratch it once and it needs to be replaced - as this is an immediate 3-5K$ cost, the insurers don't want anything to do with it.

Sure, it's still gouging by the insurance companies but that XB frame issue seems to be a big concern for most (over here where the companies can simply refuse to insure you, I've been put off by more than a few companies that don't want anything to do with the Buell)...

Add stuff like this onto your rates also. Note the article states the man wanted to do one last stunt before surrendering his bike due to falling behind on payments...

Man fined for bad driving while taping fatal, bare-bottomed motorcycle stunt
LAST UPDATE: 6/3/2005 5:08:54 PM

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - A man who videotaped a bare-bottomed buddy during a motorcycle stunt that turned deadly was convicted of two misdemeanors and fined $1,000.

District Judge Frederick Bower said the September accident might never have happened if 23-year-old Ben Meacham had not been taping his almost-naked friend from a van he was driving alongside the motorcycle.

"Filming was a major part of their plan," said the judge.

Shaun Paul Matlock, 21, was wearing only tennis shoes, a T-shirt and a helmet when he lost control during a wheelie and crashed into a parked tow truck on a rural road south of Frederick, witnesses said.

According to testimony at Meacham's trial, Matlock wanted to do something unusual on what he called his last ride before he had to surrender the motorcycle because he had fallen behind on his payments.

Meacham declined an offer to join the ride but agreed to tape it. He was convicted of reckless driving and negligent driving.

A third friend, Brandon Edwards, who rode a motorcycle alongside Matlock and was similarly attired, was fined $1,000 in November after pleading guilty to indecent exposure and negligent driving.

The tape was later destroyed; it was unclear who destroyed it.

Meacham, who owns a production company called Holding It Big, testified that the stunt was being filmed for Matlock's own use.

According to its Web site, the Baltimore-based company puts on extreme sports exhibition shows and events, produces movies and video documentaries and conducts photo and video shoots for magazines.

Definitly. When you quote someone $9000/year for insurance what you are saying is "go away, we don't want your business." My friends in the construction business do the same thing when they don't want a job.

BTW, I discovered that my insureance went down $600/year when I got rid of colision coverage. I don't think I would have the guts to do that with an $8K bike, but I own a Blast and a 2000 M2. Those bikes aren't worth enough to pay that much in insurance for.

You can't go without collision if the bank owns your bike. If you make payments then you have to carry collision. The bank wants that bike fixed if you "ding" it.

I had Progressive and was paying 1590.00 for full coverage on my 03 XB9S, Electra Glide and GTS-1000. Last fall I had a minor low speed accident on my GTS and Progressive paid me $3,600.00 for the damages. I have had Progressive for like 10 years. I turn 39 in July. Now my March renewal comes up and my insurance goes up $1,100.00 if this keeps up for three years that is like $3,300.00 just about what they paid on the claim. Now I can see a moderate increase, but $1,100.00 give me a break. Also you would think that the premiums would go up on all the bikes, right? Wrong the $1,100 increase was on the Buell alone. Called customer service and got some BS about the increase going to the bike with the highest value. Load of cr@p the Electra Glide blue books for more. Well called Geico and got all three insured for $1395.00, tried to give them all my business but they could not beat what Met-Life was giving me on auto insurance.
