This bike has been around as a prototype for a couple of years but is supposed to be introduced in sept. If so i`m selling everything and getting one!

It looks like the Bat-cycle.

Seriously, read the article in June's Sport Rider about underseat exhaust and how they produce less power and toast your butt. You may think twice...

Nifty! It looks like something out of a futuristic anime movie.

I like it.

Like the nut toasting thing on the XB's is no big deal?

I've never really had a problem with nut toasting on the XB. Even riding hard in 117 or 123 degree temps. If you could have hung a turkey between the R tail and the wheel it would have cooked in 15 minutes but not me.

I saw the prototype a couple of years ago. Complete with supercharger and radical Japanese styling it looked the biz!

What Suzuki are bringing to market is nothing as bold as the concept B-King. What they're producing is a plastic dummy of what could have been something very out of the ordinary - and in the process they've managed to make it ugly too. Still, I guess some idiot will buy one.

due to bandwidth restrictions and lack of paitence...I didn't wait for the vids.

I'm not a big fan for all the bulges and angular flaired out styling pieces...that said, I can tolerate Terblanches's excess on the new Duc's but favor the older model's smooth flowing lines. Seem more purposeful. The latest Japanese bikes and a few of the Euro designs are leaning a bit too close to 'anime' IMHO.

However, if any new bike has performance specs exceeding the competition, it will sell...despite it's packaging. The trick is getting the performance right and finding a cost point. The Japanese manufacturers have much in their favor and have consistently--what the heck, ARE leading with performance and profit.

Koz, my take on the SR editorial piece was this; Kenitsugo pointed out that 'the emperor has no clothes'...not that underseat exhaust is a bad thing, it' just not optimal for performance and contradicts an engineering principle--put the weight low and nearer the CG.

Every time I see an XB, and you can see it somewhat in all the tube frame bikes (well, it just screams at you in the S1 series!) is the way Erik developed the CG. I asked Erik about the underseat exhaust trend and received a very patient lecture and demonstration about rotating mass and it's effects on handling. Crystal.

I look at other bikes and see compromise everywhere. But I think that's the nature of production. I see the least compromise on XB's. In fact, I THINK the XB's are best bikes out there in terms of fit, finish and design purpose. When I look at any other motorcycle, I find myself comparing it to XB standards.

IMHO, Kenitsugo cannot find it in his vocabulary to say Buell nor acknowledge Erik's contributions. That's his problem (could be an editorial/employment thing)not mine.

And I will finish by saying this; if you can't blind 'em with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit...

The XB is such a clean design, this bike is very cluttered. I did like the bike from the front, the back end is quite the pitts, at least to me.

I agree with Brucelee. I liked the front but that rear seems a bit too bulky too me. Kind of has a muscular V-Max look too it.

That bike reminds me of Japanese cartoons. An exhageration of something. Part transformer, part Astro Boy. The exhausts scream "pretensious"

No thanks.

My buddy has a Duc 748R, and his biggest complaint about the underseat exhaust is where it runs close to his right ankle.....(kinda like our right knees)....

We have switched out bikes a couple times, and I agree, thoguh with the right boots, HIS isnt as nioticable as mine .......

My 2 cents

There simply is no issue with anything getting hot under the seat on my 916 never mind my nuts!

My datatool alarm ecu, quickshifter ecu and control unit are under the seat as well as the Ducati tool kit in vinyl rap. Man they don't even get warm. Not even in the workshop at tick-over. Don't believe everything you read - except this!!!!

Not to diss anyone or thing here but Erik can afford to champion his exhaust designs as they suit Buells handling perfectly whilst giving them the best performance available for such an ideal design principle.

In the case of the under seat exhaust, and I'm really talking Ducati here, their system has worked well enough to give them 9 Super Bike world titles. Given Ducatis engine design could they have optimized their system better by having a Buell style under slung exhaust? Of course not there'd be no silencing or at least nowhere to put silencing. You can't have it all ways but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

...underseat exhaust hasn't cost Ducati a race yet, nor Honda or Yamaha for that matter. I have yet to read anything anywhere that criticized the effects of underseat exhaust on handling so ya, Rocket's making a good point. I have not seen any Ducati riders jumping off their bikes and complaining about how much heat is under the seat!! I have read some discussion about the early 999's having a heat issue but Ducati seems to have addressed it successfully. Frankly, I don't pay much attention to Honda or Yamaha except to note that their performance specs are simply stellar in the sportbike world.

Hey, what the heck, I like my Duc and my Buell and I'll buy another Duc. The XB9SX certainly has my attention, but then again so does the StreetRod and the Softtail Springer for that matter. But, I can get into a 916, 996, 998, 999 or 749 for the same or less $$. And I probably won't be complaining about the underseat exhaust heat or notice any ill-handling from the weight distribution...

No mistakes, I have great respect for the XB series and admire greatly the engineering and design.

One of the great things about motorcycles is the variety of designs. They all work well enough.

Hey, I've rode that. Handles decent for a big bike and has some serious thrust. Good stability, too. That's right. I've rode 'em quite a bit, on a video game.

Ummm.. maybe a 3.2 pound $3000 unobtanium titanium underseat full race exhaust does not have the same detrimental effect on handling as a 35 pound steel factory exhaust and cat that meets California CARB and EPA noise and pollution rules.

Cycle world had a mail response about this, it was well done. They basically says Ducatti did it for better corner clearance, other makers did it to be cool, and that the GSXR-1000 tested with it under the seat and stuck it back on the side after the test riders complained about the handling hit the bike took with the exhaust under the seat...
