Well, since we've had rain for the last 5 days and I can see the sun coming out now. It got me thinking. I got some rain pants (Got lucky, found them at an HD dealer (sadly not a Buell one) for $35) but I need a good rain coat that will be east to pack but also keep me dry during a good rain storm.

I usually travel with my First Gear touring Jacket & Pants, but this will be too hot for your climate most of the year.

You can get your standard rubber First Gear rain jacket. I have both the jacket and the pants pressed into a small clear plastic pouch and they easily would fit in a tank bag. They are pretty cheap too. Last year the pants with the liner of my Joe Rocket Phoenix Jacket worked for 75 of a 150 mile run to VIR.

The best thing for your climate are these new rain jackets and pants that are made of this breathable material. They work great from what I'm told and you do not get hot in them. The material almost feels like paper but the down side is that they are expensive. Around here most of Japanese motorcycle dealers have them for around $60 dollars for set.

Cat.... I have the Orange/ gray H-D rain gear... takes up a bit of room and hot if you don't take it off as soon as the sun comes out.... I have heard "Frog Toggs" are excellent... They also don't take up that much room...

Don't know if you have a good summer riding jacket or not, I bought a Fieldsheer M3 armoured jacket. The COOL thing is that it has it's own rain cover that folds up and stores into a pocket on the lower back half of the jacket, and works really well in the rain. Plus it doubles as a good warmer for when I stay out into the chill of night.

I have the Buell rain gear, I rode Friday for about 130 miles in a monsoon...worked perfect..The jacket has a pocket on the back and the pants and jacket fold up into it..and it's small enough to fit in the tank bag or bungee to the seat....65$ at the dealer, you can't go wrong...

Try this: Samoa Rainsuit

It's a one piece, and it squashes down into a fanny pack. Really easy to deal with.

A buddy of mine picked one up at BikeWeek 5 or so years ago and talked me into getting one about a year later. Still working like a champ.

It's been great for the storms we have down here in Florida and makes a damn good windbreaker for the winter, too.

i have been trying to get an Aerostich suit from Rider Wear house for about seven months now. aparantly i am real hard to fit (5 foot nine, 140 pounds) they have sent three suits, one of them WOULD fit, but there was also room for my wife in there with me. it was pretty funny. the first one was a demo, just for sizing, got a bright yellow 40 regular, real tight up top, sent it back with all my measurements, and they made a really nice black and grey custom suit..... with really small arms. would not fit over my wrists. sent that back, and they sent me a 42 regular almost enough room in shoulder area, and room for me, my wife, and my 14 year old son to all fit in the GREAT BIG A$$ part of the suit. so they are trying to gather together their most awake pattern cutter, and find a sewer that is not on vacation, and maybe they will try again soon. i have been trying since middle of november to get an Aerostich, so maybe by christmas they will have on to fit me.
each of the three suits seamed to be of the very finest quality, if they could make one around my size i think i would like it a bunch. they run around $1300 but to not have to struggle into rain gear on side of road three times a day, and then hang up drippy rain gear at every restaurant stop seems like it will be worth it.
