New rule in MotoGP. From 2007 the maximum engine size capacity will be 800cc and 2-stroke engines will not be allowed.

I don't know if the World superbike and AMA will folow this rule.

I doubt it, since the Superbike rules have headed more toward production rules and away from one-off specials. FWIW, the AMA just extended the current rules through 2008.

I also heard they are playing with the idea of having them race on the same set of tires they qualified with.

That make sense. Why allow racers to do crazy track time with particular tires when they can't use it in a race.

I think that will murder the action... They'll qualify in the order they finish, just like F1.

M1, I'm not sure if I understand what you mean.

Well... Some riders can extract more out of better tires compared to their race tires than others. It's not always in line with how they qualify or their race pace or how "fast" they seems to be as pilots. This means that the field gets mixed up partly due to the use of stickier tires for qualifying.

Personally... I think they should give points for qualifying and then invert the field. Maybe only invert a random number from 1-10 of the top of the field... That works pretty well where it's used in dirt track racing.

BMW may make things interesting with a MotoGP 800cc triple using some of their F1 technology.
