Yeah, like...

"What's that gawd aweful loud rattling noise?"
or
"Is your rear brake supposed to be covered in oil?"
or
"Are you waiting for a shop truck to come pick you up?"
or
"What the fuck is that ugly black plastic box on the right side the tank?"...

I gotta get out of the Buell bashing business. It's getting way too popular.

Still being the only one on the island I get it all the time, especially the one about the black ugly box - so I removed it. Still get "How does the rear shock work lying down?" and "Who is Buell?"

Worth every cent of what I paid. If I had the cash I think I would buy Timmy's. But the Canadian dollar is not worth much more than monopoly money these days. Timmy will you take Canadian Tire Money????

Just for the record I would have never bought a Buell except for the Sales man was smart enough to get on a 20 minute test drive. (Just a hint to all the dealers listening) I was a suzuki fanatic until then. I still love my S2 better than any other bike out today!

Read all the comments and feel the need to give my 2 pennies worth. I think the problem starts right at Buell H/Q. I have never seen an ad for Buell on the tube, yet I can recall ads for basically most Japanese & European bikes aka BMW. Buell needs an agressive advertizing program period. If they could increase the demand for new bikes then used prices rise because not everybody needs brand new. I bought my 97 S3T when it was 2yrs. old, had all the warranty work done and with regular maintenance have had absolutely no trouble. I also think that Buells lack of exposure at all the major bike races world wide makes a huge difference in demand. If vtwin Ducati can make a bike to compete with the best, whats Buells problem? Come up with a bike and rider that can compete on the world circuit and people will notice and its the kind of exposure they need to get a bigger market for their bike. Anyway thats my opinion and i'm stickin' with it. BOB

I think they need to figure out some incentives for dealerships to actually participate on demo days. I mean most dealers don't want to because of how it devalues the bike & no one wants to pay full price for a demo bike. Anyway, I understand the dealers' side of this but also know there's more converts when they demo a Buell. If I wasn't so convinced about the firebolt, I doubt I would've bought it without a demo ride.

sidenote: I'm gonna' ride this till Buell makes watercooled firebolt. If I make enough money by then, I'll keep both.

I think your right about the dealers. there seems to be a problem for some people to go into a Harley dealer to look at and test ride a sport bike and some dealers don't help the problem. The Buell dealer near me is a totally seperate stand alone building right beside the Harley building but its the same dealer. They get a good turn out for their demo days. I think dealers would do better if they seperated H/D and Buell for sales and service.

Why is the used Buell market 'soft'?

Not really sure that it is...prices have stabilized if not started creeping up on most models. The '96-98 M2's are bottomed out for sure, the well maintained bikes are being kept aside for some odd reason...why on earth it's now fashionable to 'part-out' on ebay is a mystery to me...labor intensive and the whole is always worth more than the parts...short sighted action.

The tube frame bikes are just plain great street bikes. Quirky as they are, the riders I know appreciate their simplicity, fantastic handling and the bikes ability to'morph'.

Ya, technology marches on, XB9R is a result. I'm anxious to see what's ahead. Once we adjust to the pace of change, I'm sure that Erik and the East Troy tribe will delight us with 'newer and better' just as other manufacturers do. When the new models are introduced, if one strikes my fancy and I have the cash, I'll consider the purchase...BUT THIS DEALER SUPPORT ISSUE HAS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY AND WITH RESULTS THAT ENCOURAGE PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE BUELL OWNERS...as in just the other day I stopped by to see about getting some minor work done because my time to wrench is severly limited and the price quoted for the work was way out of line. Likely the same for the HD gang also...

...but I'm a partiotic American with my own 'gunslinger' hanging tough in the sand box and I just feel the need to support the locals as much as possible and with that said, hope that the prices of used Buells continues to appreciate as riders come to appreciate their qualities and move beyond the press pablum and ebay 'sell it, sell it all' mentality.

I have to agree with one of the other answers...Buell is basically an "unknown". I work at the Harley plant in York PA and we have alot of people touring the plant every day. The other day, I parked my Firebolt in front of the tour center (an employee perk!) and had a man and woman come up to me. First thing out of this guys mouth was, "whats that thing doing on Harley property?" (say this with a southern twang) "Booo-Elll.....is that British? After I explained Buell and the meaning of the universe to this guy, he says, "Never thought I'd see the day when Harley-Davidson made a rice burner." At that point, I just smiled and went through the gate. My point is, even after taking the tour where I'm pretty sure Buell is mentioned, the word just isn't out there or people dont want to hear it!

As far as dealers go, I see there being two types. Excellent Buell dealers and, Harley dealers who sell Buells. The first is the one that gets excited telling you about the two hour ride he took on the Firebolt demo over the weekend. The second is the one that says, "Buell???...have you ever consider a Dyna? It's sporty and it's a Harley". I won't name names or dealer bash for obvious reasons but, I did get that response when I asked about the Firebolt.

Brand recognition is everything. Hopefully, with the Firebolt getting so much press, awareness of the brand will increase.
