Don't the FX bikes use a stock clutch? Maybe just stock plates? |

I have a friend with a built S3 and he swears by his Barnett Scorpion clutch. |

Not sure what will fit or what's available for the XB, It doesn't have a spring plate so I'm not sure if one of their kits is right. I am getting a lot of slipping in third gear I fired an E-mail off to Barnett, their website doesn't mention any XB applications |

If your grip strength is up to it, there's a stiffer Harley spring but if you're getting slipping at less than 120 HP and drag racing, sounds like you might have adjustment issues. I'd be wondering about the need for a different clutch. If you are slipping and have adjusted the clutch properly, and are using the XB12 spring, that means you are putting a good 140-150HP or more through the clutch (or are really getting serious heat in the primary). Mike Barnes was racing using the XB12 spring because of hand injuries (didn't have the grip for heavy spring and that Kosco FX bike last year was (supposedly) delivering 140-ish HP. You can hit up Al at American Sport Bike - he sells the high performance clutch spring (I wouldn't worry about the rest of the clutch - save your $$$) - As far as I know the heavy duty spring he sold for the tubers will drop right into the XB clutch body and give you another 25% spring tension (but ask him!!! Don't take my word about it). My racebike only makes like 105 HP (cammed/valved/tuned for big mid-range oomph) and I haven't found the need for a heavier clutch spring - but I'm road racing, not drag racing. I have maybe 3-4 standing race starts in a race day (sometimes one more if we've had a re-start). If you use the XB12 clutch spring, you really should have plenty of clutch for any riding and any motor putting out less than 140-150 HP (By the way, I did look at Barnett also and as of a few months ago, they did not have anything for the Buell XB series) - I used the stock XB9 clutch after my engine work and did get slippage on the first half lap - fixed by using the XB12 spring. |

The XB uses the same clutch plates as a stock sportster. I myself have the Energy One MFG Sportster Buell extra plate clutch kit. At first the heavier spring is noticable, but then it becomes normal feeling for everyday use, it does however catch up to you quick in heavy rush hour traffic. The clutch DOES lock up quicker and takes a little to get used to feathering. Barnett makes a kit for the Buell XB line quote:We offer a clutch kit (frictions & steels) for the XB9R. The part number is # SK-15. If the XB12 has the same clutch as the XB9, then this kit will fit. Thank you for your interest in our products. Chris Taylor Barnett Tool & Eng.

Wot Wycked sed: after a day's riding, you won't really notice the stiffer spring any longer. I got mine from Bartels racing when we were tuning up the bike - and to tell the truth, I'm not sure WHICH clutch it was for - but it dropped right into the XB clutch. |

There was a Barnett Clutch in my DR650 when I purchased it last summer. It was incorrectly installed and I had major problems. I eventually went back to a stock clutch and all is well again. I have also had the stock clutch in my 98 S1 and there has been no major adjustments after 45000km. I don't think there is anything wrong with the stock setup unless your going to be pushing some major HP. |

what qualifies as major HP? Give me a little time to get the parts and I will let you guys know if it was just worn parts. |

My clutch started feeling questionable so I followed the cable/clutch adjustment per the manual and all is well. Have you tried just adjusting it??? |

i run a barnett (extra plate kit) in my 98 sportster, with a heavy spring from zippers. it holds up pretty well with the 89 inch stroker motor, never had it slip, the parts LOOK like they should go right in the XB. cant verify, but it looks like the same basket. |

just checked your profile. nice XB you have built there. that "little" 88 incher should be okay with a 9 plate clutch setup. |
