So I get this wileyco stainless can for my X1 from Cas4. It came in questionable looking box, Or so I thought. I open it up. it's double boxed! cool. thanks cas4.

I open the wileyco box. cool, a hat. it came with a hat. That's nice..... hey what's this? a T-shirt too? wow. nice shiny muffler. so light. oh... act now and recieve a pair of stickers too, and a keychain? holly crap. and a lapel pin! what the heck? I'm a walking wileyco comercial! Never been so smothered in promotionals. : )

I put the exhaust on, no surprizes. looks great. sounds great. runs great. totally solved my too rich condition from the race ecm. good throttle response. I'm a happy camper now!

end of story.
Dan.

Dan,
Just an experienced heads-up - check the packing material every 1,000 miles or so. Did you get the latest version?

You have to drill out the pop rivets and check it. My first WileyCo busted the mount tabs on the front, caught it when I got home after riding a few hundred miles up to Daves/Appleton's open house last year. The WileyCo rep told me the inner tube will rattle and cause vibrations which leads to problems. That was with the older style can. The newer can requires the Y-mount hanger which I haven't put on the M2 yet, so it sits in the box. I suppose you could put a rod up the tailpipe and see if anything feels loose in there, but I haven't opened up the new can to see how its internals are constructed yet. There is supposed to be a different packing material out that doesn't burn/blow out so frequently, not sure if this is what WileyCo is packing their's with these days though, and not sure what the material is called.

Not a big deal if you stay on top of it, and should probably be done with all glasspack style mufflers anyway.

I bought my Jardine from them. I would give them a thumbs up for customer service and price.

How often do you have to re-pack them? What happens if you don't? How much is the re-pack? Still debating whether I want a Wileyco.

Packing material is usually not too expensive, the pipe manufacturers generally have msrp's listed on their sites.

Your pipe is loud when the packing is gone, incriminating you and irritating your neighbors. May loose a little pressure but I believe you just get louder, probably a bit more vibration too...

I've had a stainless WileyCo cannister, purchased in 2003, which has been moved around from bike to bike (X1/S1) for a few thousand miles and it's still really quiet and has had no durability issues.

I'm well over 8K on mine (x1) no major issues, a bolt fell out of the front pipe connector.

Also it doesn't like road salt, then again, maybe I shouldn't ride in winter

I did a write up on my Wileyco last year. The original pipe I bought broke at the front mount. If you got a pipe where you have to bolt the canister to the elbow pipe you have the old style. Wileyco sent me the updated version after mine broke for the cost of shipping (from Italy)

Here are the pics... The HUGE difference is the front mount which has been indestructable for me. Also Oil changes are supper easy since I just have to loosen the back clamps and I can slide the exhaust off. The old system uses 4 bolts and if you tear the gasket you are pretty much screwed. You have to remove the exhaust at the elbow and then remount it every time you adjust the primary chain or do an oil change. This leads to the front mount breaking. If you have any more questions let me know. BTW the new system came with a hat, shirt, and stickers that were even cooler then the last system!!!

Yup... At idle it is not to loud, no droning either. When you hit the throttle under a load, it sounds great. Jon, I am still waiting for you to stop by and hear it... We will hook up sometime this summer...

I work too much is the issue. 60 + hours between the two, what do Mondays after 5:00 PM look like for you, or Tuesday mornings?

actually both those days kinda suck for me. Go figure eh? One of these days I will see you at a Buell event. Best descrption I can give you is louder then stock, a quieter then a D & D, and not nearly as crisp.

Koz,
does the stubby (technical term) section bolt up where the old style S-pipe did? Hmmm, it does look quite a bit stouter.

I usually loosen the front clamp, then the rear clamps and the rotate the whole thing down for primary changes. quite the pita and a major league mess.

I'll look for your old post. I agree on the sound, just seems deeper (bassier) at idle. below 3500 rpm very civil, above 3500 awesome

Everything bolts up the same. The canister is free to slide off as soon as the back brackets are lose. IT does not leak when bolted up though. It is quick and easy. I used to loosen the front clamp mount, and remove the front bracket bolt also to swing the entire system down. This led to the bracket bolt rattling off when the nut came off. I eventually replaced that with a steel jam nut and have had no problems. I ran for a month with a home brew fix of a muffler clamp and a small piece of steel bolted to the front mount untill WileyCo replaced the whole system for me. They were really great to work with!
