Ok everyone.. I am asking for some help here. The wife and i are Expecting our first child in about 4 months. We know it will be a girl, but we are at each others throats about a name. She wants Gretchen (sounds like a large german woman's name, sorry if i just offended someone), and i like Brooke, or Gabrielle. If anyone has any other ideas for names please let me know. Serious here people, but no rush, got 4 months to go.. but time is flying.. |

I'm surprised nobody has stated the obvious choice: Erika Okay, I wouldn't do it either, but it's good for a thought. |

How about: Grace (my daughters name) Emily (my wifes favorite girl name) Hannah (spelling?) I can't remember any of the other names that we were deciding between about 4 years ago. Fortunatley we agreed on more than one name that we liked. Congrats by the way, kids are great! |

Keep in mind nicknames, Gabrielle is nice but would become GabbyBell. I was recently talking with someone who ran all name possibilities past her brother to see what he could change them into, ruled out about 2/3'rds of her name choices. You also have to look at initials. |

I had some friends Charlie and Phil Weaver, and he always said when he had a girl he was going to name her "Dream Weaver" after the song. Her name was Corey Dream Weaver and they call her Corey, I thought that was cute !! CJ |

well Grace and Hanna are out cause everyone in their brother (around my area) is naming their daughters that.... I would do Erika, but My wife hates it.. i already suggested that.. come on give me more credit than that. I know what you mean about carefully nameing the child.. cause kids are cruel but inventive. Adam Bell, you would think that i was safe in school.. OH HECK NO!! Michigan Bell, Liberty Bell (7th grade math teacher said "I cracked under his stress), Taco, and my all time Favorite "sarcasim" A-Dum-Bell... so trust me i have thought into these alot Thanks for the suggestions so far.. Blackbelt...haha...I know what you mean. try going to school in the late 70s and through the 80s with the name Luke...if I had a nickel for every time some heavy breathing freak walked up to me and said he was my father ...I'd be a rich man right now a nickel for every time I've been called Skywalker would make for some decent coin too... |

you really need to couple what ever name your thinking about with her possible middle name and last name. and when you say it say the whole name. some names just don't flow. others roll off the tongue so eloquently. REALLY avoid names that have the same first letter as your last name. most of the time it sounds bad when you say the whole name. in the end though go with what you like. it wont matter 10 years from now. and i don't care what you name a kid. it will be picked on by someone. |

I like Kaia, I had a Dalmation and I named her that. Pronounced Ki-ah. I also had a female Chesapeake named Maranda but I called her Andy. What ever you do don't name her Penny. |

Well you could use Casey (girl) Kasey (boy) or Kelly for both boy or girl, or you could also use Toni (girl) Tony (boy). You know that you could still have a boy. Good luck on finding a name. |

If I was still the baby business, I would name a little girl Griet. The name of the girl who was the Girl with the Pearl Earring movie and book. |

I am no where near qualified for this, but..... Go for a uncommonly common first name and something more radical for a middle. case in point: Bryan Todd N*** would have become: Bryan Tyr N*** I would not have minded a son with the same initials just not a junior. Look Tyr up in norse mythology. or this one, Sydnette. SYD(ney)+(a)NETTE. I always just called her Syd. |

Excellent advise from Twowheeldream. There are more pages for each first character: Look at the very bottom of the first page with names. You have to watch out for an unwanted combination of Initials: We had to put a third name for our first born son: Who would go through life with H.D. (Hip Dysplasia, apart from a well known motorbike brand) as initials? We have made it H.H.D. Hans |

Gretchen is a good one We gave up after the 4th child, first was a girl (Elsa) and the other three boys (Connor, Riley & Morgan). Had Morgan been a girl we would have had a Hannah. |
