No...this isn't a death monger...stupid kid on a sushi bike post...this is just a reality check. Last night a guy that I ride with quite a bit and another mutual friend were out just cruising. That's kinda' unusual for these two...they are wannabe' stunt riders (squids??). I usually just stay in the back of the pack, and watch when I ride with them. Recently, they have been getting better...slowing down, doing less stupid stuff. I was really starting to enjoy riding with them(not having to worry about them dragging me down with them!!). Last night they were the only 2 out(usually about 7-8), just enjoying the nice evening. They were on the bypass highway around town running about 60, when a kid blew a stop sign, and blasted right out in front of them. My friend never got to hit the brakes. T-boned the car, and turned it 180 degrees in the road. Usually I would be preaching about wearing a helmet...but it would have done him no good. I always wear mine, and he was the guy that always made fun of me for it. Remember...it doesn't matter how good you are, what you ride, or what you wear....sometimes you have no control over the situation, and no time to think about what's happening. Be alert!! We all called him "Neighbor", because when he first came around we couldn't remember his name, but one of the guy's that ride with us lived next to him...he would always say "Hi Neighbor", so it stuck. He was 24yrs old, and the best natured kid you have ever met. Godspeed Neighbor |

Sorry to here about your friend. You are right, reality check. I hit a deer one night at about 50 mph, mile from my house, no gear, just a helmet. My arms paid a price for that. I should have been more aware, I mean the road goes right through an orchard! I was too comfortable, and not being as alert as I should have been. I think we get too comfortable and tend not to pay attention to intersections like we should. Again, sorry to hear about your friend, and thanks for sharing your message |

Brad no worries, it was a couple of years ago, and the reason I now live in AZ and not on the East Coast anymore. |

We never know when but at the peril of someone missing a stop sign seems so avoidable. Go out and ride Smitty. It's good therapy in your situation. Rocket} |
