"The front brake's large size and outboard mounting serve a functional purpose in enhancing stopping power, but it also accentuates the wheel's airy and lightweight styling. HRA designed the billet aluminum wheels, taking cues from organic, asymmetrical shapes contained within the human skeleton."

"To keep the rear of the machine as clean as possible, Honda designers created an exhaust system beneath the engine in the shape of an aerodynamic cowling."

Uh.....Your new bike was dangled as bait in about 2001. If....unlikely "if"... Honda decides to introduce their "new innovations", say the brake and the exhaust, they are starting 3 years behind Buell, assuming they can overcome the patent infringment litigation without delay.

It is still a great bike to put on a turret in the middle of a party.

Thanks Chuck!

In the electronics business, the large manufacturers all have patent cross-license agreements with each other. Is the motorcycle business different?

I stand corrected.....it was just over 3 years ago that we got the "secret preview" of the NAS. It was a fun evening....

At least they balanced the look with matching scoops. But I'll stick with my Buell.

Court,
LOL, too funny. Hey, it's not WHAT you ride, it's THAT you ride. Right?

BTW, Does "NAS" stand for "Not Anytime Soon"?

Maybe they need to rename it the "NA,E"

Not Anytime, Ever.

Let's be fair. We've knocked the NAS concept for three years now on the BadWeB but come on it's a great testament to the design freedoms motorcycling allows and I'm sure these freedoms are spawned from creative minds of people like Glynn Kerr and John Keogh or even Massimo Tamburini. These are the people that along with those concepts bring bikes like the XB Buells to market.

Like Court said, it's still a great bike to put on a table in the middle of a party, but it's also the vision that counts whether or not it makes production and that too is of great importance to the future of motorcycle design and development.

I suspect Court has a soft spot for the NAS Concept. I know I do

>>>I suspect Court has a soft spot for the NAS Concept.

Absolutely.

My tongueincheekiousity is a response to all the yahoo's who, when the Honda was released, as "poised for production" started into their "why can't Buell do this?" tirade.

Fact is, Buell had not only done the parts that worked but you could walk in and buy one.

The NAS is a fun bike to look at and I really like the wheels.

I think it looks great. Naked, V-twin, fairly clean, and agressive. I wish the firebolt looked a little more agressive. Maybe sharper lines would help.

Oh I am so glad to know that Massimo and the guys at Honda have helped bring the XB to market. It was miraculous how we accomplished this with such a small team, but now I understand...it wasn't us at all! I knew there had to be more than the ten engineers who worked on it at Buell. And to think, we didn't even have to pay these outside creators. We should cut our workforce in half at Buell and look for more of this divine work...

Relax. . . were safe at the plate selling these things when some of these folks were "inspired". I became a Calc genius the moment Joan Friedstrom moved her left arm just a tad.

That bike was in October 2001 Cycle World. Same Month they had a feature on the "new" Firebolt XB9R. They made a big deal about Honda's concept bike but they had the samething in the new Buell and it was out for everyone to see and ride. Didn't seam like as big of deal to them. It's been 4 years and still no Honda.

For me the choice between the Buell and a Honda was easy......

Buell (On Left) and Honda (On Right)

: )
Court - okay...I'm biased...so what?

Court -

One of the bikes in that pic falls into the "disposable" category. Hmmm....

Nice shot!

"For me the choice between the Buell and a Honda was easy......"

So you still have not got over that "I don't like Black bikes" thing.

PS: Could have been a great shot if you had a Dumpster in the background.

Hey Anony please don't miss-interpret my words regarding your teams efforts to design innovative motorcycles.

My point was simply not to rib at the concept world even in the most extreme (ridiculous) of design.

The XB is fantastic and still would be even if it were only for its use of design extremities.
