Picking up a bike that needs bias ply tires, its listed as 3.5 S 19 front and 4.0 S 18 rear, however it seems that several companies have decided to list all there tires with a mm measurment instead of the older style of sizing so, if i was to convert these what would they be?? I am guessing 100 v 19 and a 130 v 18, but not sure any ideas, and yes i knoe the letter is ths peed rating, more interested in the actual tire size Ideas R |

Nice tire site. My question would be what would happen if you ran radials on that bike? Is it the same as running radials on an old car - just make sure the wheels can handle it. |

I recently read the radils shouldn't be put on a scoot that didn't have em originally -- mumbo jumbo wrt frame and suspension acting wonky with the wrong tires . . . . . . could be mumbo jumbo, but it was in Cycle WOrld I beleive, a normally trusted source of data fer me |

Grndskpr- Most tire manufacturers have tire recommendations charts for bikes, even old ones. What kind of bike is it? Mikej- I think your statement is pretty accurate. Trouble is (at least in this case) I don't think there are any radials available in anything close to the right size, and you DON'T want to shoe-horn a tire on the rim that is half as wide as it should be for the tire size. You can still get some pretty decent bias ply tires, at any rate much better than what was available when these bikes were new. |
