....and I realized a thing or two or three or...:

1) Road America is NOT a Buell friendly track! It was my first time on RA at actual track speeds. It's cool to have a straight that allows you to go full throttle. But it sucks getting passed at 115mph like you're standing still. But I'd inevidebly catch them in the corners (only to get left behind in the straights again).

2) Cold weather is not track friendly. It was just at or above freezing (yup...32 degrees) at the start of the day. Even after spending a lap & a half getting the tires warm, the asphalt was still slick. I spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME sliding around corners.

3) I need to spend more time on the track.

4) I need to figure out how to better tune my suspension. The bike was getting a little loose in the rear under hard braking.

5) I need to relax! I spent too much time worrying about crashing (although sliding both tires through a corner tends to make me cautious). But I also noticed that I WASN'T riding with my toes on the pegs. I was "flat footed" all day.

6) I'll be back out there in a few weeks to make ammends with myself for a lousy outing yesterday.

Now if I could only find a way to get somebody to pay for the track time : D

Ahhh...True Confessions.

Don't sweat the small stuff. Your day was bummed by the weather, a long track and lack of peer pressure.

Sure helps if you have some bikes in your class to measure your progress with. Getting whooped in the straights all day can get a little intimidating.

Relax, you learned a lot at R/A and you will be better off for it.

Dennis, Blackhawk May 25th will be a lot better. Much more suited to a Buells abilities & its a little more technical than RA is.

I'm not going to make the May 25th date at Blackhawk. We leave for Deals Gap on the 28th. I don't want to take the chance of wadding up my S1 3 days before I leave.

I will be at the June 23rd and July 2nd dates. Other dates are TBD right now. Considering May 15th at Blackhawk (NESBA date).

I asked Dave about the open house & he says its 1 day..the 14th but according to the schedule for the Teresi dyno drag truck they have Appleton listed as the 13th-15th. I have the schedule right in front of me & wonder is that a huge screw up or what?

Anyways back to semi-topic, I will be at the Open house & make a few runs on the truck. Who wants to run opposite me?

Not me! I'm not up to putting up with all the teasing, but I sure want to watch you run.

I'll race Dyna's X1....

You know if you didn't know who you were talking to, this post and the last one could be confusing since they refer to 2 X1's, 1 dynaglide, and 1 dyna guy.... And that's not even accounting for Dyna's dyna.....

Dyna...I'm not confused.

Koz put all his money into a show bike and the only way he is going to win a dyno drag is against your old X1. That is assuming it is in the same condition it was the last time you posted a pic of it.

Koz...Just teasing ya! I read a while back where you were doing some mods and a dyno tune thing with Dave at Appleton. Can't wait to see your M2 in person, but if it is a bright day I'll make sure to bring some really dark sunglasses.

78 hp was the final dyno number.

P.S. You can wear the sunglasses at night too for when I turn on my LEDs

Oh yeah, I told Dave this also. I think since adding the chrome my bike will be quicker since the powdercoat pieces were rough in texture they were not nearly as arodynamic as my new chrome stuff! I should gain at least 20 to 30 mph on the top end! I would probably pass Dyna's R1 in the straights, but I don't think he is running in the beginner class. Boy is he lucky huh?

I was actually thinking the only way my M2 would pass your R1 in a straight is if I catch you on the Highway and my trailer passes yours.... ha ha

Nah...track days are all for fun & I would enjoy being out on the track & run a few laps with you.
Besides I am willing to bet you get out of the beginner group after the 1st session & move up to intermediate.

We will see. I have no visions of grandure going into this. I am just glad to have a good runing bike. I did Battle trax at Ukes during the 20th and about halfway through the day my bike started missing like I fouled a plug. It really screwed my timing up. It would cut out in the corner and make the bike feel like it was going to drop. By the end of the last riding season my bike was horrible, backfiring, no power, it really sucked. Now my bike is running the best it ever has after the dyno tuning session which was the final piece in resolving my FI forcewinder on a carbed bike issues. (long story, but thankfully resolved) I am really praying for good weather above everything else! Upper 60's light breeze would be nice.

would someone tell me why my X1 BLEW UP at blackhawk last week? I was flogging it mercilessly trying to pass a gsx750 in the straights and blew an oil seal out of the cam cover. the paper just let go right in front of the pulley.

did I toast something intenally or was it just time for the gasket? seems odd. I have never even touched those bolts. I hope I don't have massive blow-by problem. didn't seem like it though, I was running it looking all over for the leak just before I took it apart. it wasn't pumping oil out like I had a holed piston or anything. ????

I am really hoping to make it back there for may 14-15 but I don't trust the bike now.

I think you answered your own question with I was flogging it mercilessly trying to pass a gsx750 in the straights. If you want to ride that hardcore, you might want to consider getting a trackbike so you don't tear up your street ride.

Well it HAS a rev limiter! I just figured that's what is was for. : ) c'mon Koz. tell me you didn't TRY to wring everything out of it that was there. You expect us to believe thay passed you and you held back because trying to keep up was just no big deal : )

I don't want to leave my Buell for another. I just need her to RUN!

Well, I installed the race ECM on my bike and have hit the rev limiter once or twice, but I try not to ride it like that.

You may want to try using a 29 or 30 tooth front sprocket to have more top-end in the straights. I have a 26 tooth on mine, but I will be bringing my 27 tooth sprocket just in case I want to switch.

Woo hoo! I have off on the 25th! Koz, I'll come play with ya at Blackhawk.

Dyna, I'll run next to you up in Appleton on the 14th. I want to see what their dyno says my X1 is at. Should be a good time. My son's gonna bring his GSX-R1000 and a co-worker says he's going to bring his Hayabusa.

Chris,

Do you know anyone with a 29 tooth sprocket they wnat to get rid of? It would be nice to have a few options at the track.

I was out at Blackhawk on the 16th and saw only one Buell. That must have been Dsergison because I saw him leave before the day was over.

A friend has been twisting my arm to do a track day for over a year now and finally I caved in. Mostly because I picked up a cheap Ninja last year and that bike is better suited for the track than my S3. I only did the intro session and when that was over I unloaded my ATV and drove that around to various corners just watching. I have a new found appreciation for being out on the track. I saw 120 on the front straight and my lap times were somewhere around 1:48. Not sure when my next track day would be but I'll come out and watch for sure.

Shane,

We met and had lunch together at the battletrax at Uke's during the 20th anniversary of Buell. If you come out on May 25th, stop by and say hi. I will have my grey and Orange M2 parked by my yellow Jeep.

Ken

Battletrax...ohh how the good times seem to never last. But new adventures always seem to be on the horizon.

May 25th = Wednesday. Probably not going to make it unless I stop by after work to watch. What time does NESBA call it quits for the day?

I went to the Motovid.com website when I was looking more that the trackday for May 25th. They got some cool stuff!!! For $40 they will have a professional rider follow you around the track and digitally record your riding. They also sell a general video of the day for only $20. If anything you should check out the videos of guys taking laps at Blackhawk.

I am SO ready to go!!!

Motovid,
Yes they just happened to be "Fishing" when I was out on the track and the guy followed me two of the last three laps. He waved me over by him when it was over and said he got me on video and I should go check it out.
So I watched the laps of myself and the guy told me what I was doing ok and not so ok. I decided to buy the video which they burned right there. I kind of wish there was more laps of me for the price they charged....$35 for just two laps and for $5 more they will follow you the whole 20 minutes. I guess I could have haggled with them, live and learn right.

If you happen to be watching the videos from the web site and you see a red jacket with a horizontal white stripe, black helmet and black bike. That is me.
