Funny, I don't see those cops writing tickets at the open house events? I also didn't see the cops writing tickets during the 100th, the city could have made a fortune. 99% of the time you will not get a ticket unless you are anoying everyone with outragous volume. If that's the case, I say ticket the bum. The last thing I want to hear in my living room is everytime you decide to drive by my house. 60 hp and 115 decibles is not cool... I would love to see OCC or WCC get pulled over on an episode and have a safty inspection. Just 'cuase you built a pretty bike doesn't get you a free pass to bother the rest of the world. Even here in Wisconsin, not everybody cares that you own a bike.

Oh yeah, I do have my stock exhaust setup for just that reason. I got a ticket in a car once in Appleton.

I had a guy recently show up in the neighborhood with a Buell (it looked like a Cyclone, didn't have much time to talk)... He liked to wind it out when leaving the stop sign behind my house and up the road approx 1/4 mile to the next stop sign or the gas station... Me being the friendly ocifer that I am, spoke to him about this and he has adjusted his riding habits in the "hood"... Or was it jealously because my Buell has been out of service for almost a month and my other Buell is STILL in MN awaiting shipping to Florida... Go figure... lol

Speaking of noise, I have a D&D exhaust and it's loud but at idle it's not too bad. Fortunately it doesn't say anything about race use only. My Biggest Gripe with (stereotyping) is the Harley riders with the loud exhaust, who can't resist revving the crap out of it at every stop sign, traffic light etc.. like if they didn't do it,it would die because apparently it's not able to just idle. In fact sometimes when I see somebody doing that I ask them" Is that a carburator problem?" Sometimes I like to take the wind out of peoples Sail's.

Actually there was an episode of American Chopper where the OCC guys decided to go for an evening ride. There were like 6 or so guys, none had license plates, etc...the police pulled them over and although they didn't get tickets, they did have to return to the trailers and stop riding that night...was rather amusing. I can't remember if it was Daytona or Sturgis...

So even the OCC boys aren't totally free from the ocifers...

The throttle reving, in my opinion, is an old drag racer thing. When bikes or cars have race type cams in them, they idle for crap and you have to keep reving them so they don't die. 99% of your harleys don't have that problem, it's just some guy doing it because he likes to hear his loud pipes and it's what all the other people do. Maybe if more bikers did track days they would be happy riding stock bikes on the street.

Daves is my perfect example: He once told me that if he could ride at least 5 track days a summer he wouldn't even need to ride a bike on the street. Personally I still think he would miss the long trips he takes, I know I would just cruising....

Didn't some of the early HD's (1920's?) have a manually adjustable valve in the muffler on a choke knob type set up? Pull knob=loud, push knob + quite? Maybe it's time for a comeback.

I think they did. It was so the rider could get better performance when outside of urban areas. You can buy a device like that for a car from Jegs or JC whittney. They are illegal to use or even have them installed on the street.

Besides, a 1920's HD does not sound the same as straight pipes on a 88" or larger motor

Daytona. They were delivering the bike that Mikey built.

Race use only? Just like the rest of the aftermarket exhaust. Think "STEALTH MODE" available at the push of a button. ; )

I think its only going to get worse in the future in regards to tickets for loud exhausts, cars, trucks, and motorcycles.

In NYC the biggest complaint right now from the Community Boards is not Assaults or Murders, its Noise Complaints. Especially for bikes and cars.

So the Community Boards, which are made up of people in every part of the city, go protest at Police Headquarters and say that the Police have to write tickets and impound vehicles if they too loud.

And then the cops are forced to write tickets, people think its me, and i decided to wake up today and write motorcycles tickets.

The cops are the bad guys for just doing what they are told to do.

You see the OCC guys riding their bikes on test rides in NYS all the time on the tube - no plates - illegal, probsbly illegal pipes, often no helmets - illegal in NYS, no indicators - probably also illegal.

Moral : A $46 million dollar pay off from Discovery enables you to act like a moron and pay off the local law

OCC gets away with it because when they are all riding or testing a new bike they have the Police close the road so they film trucks can ride in the other lane to film them.

In reality just about everything is illegal on their bikes.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the LEO's did a crack down on bike's heading to and from the races at Road America or other bike oriented events in Wisconsin.

Ewwww....Not a good thought.

Oh well! Guess now I will have to avoid visiting WI on a bike. I think I really would have enjoyed it. I would even have contributed to the economy while I was there. I am sure I would have spent more than the LEO's would try to collect.

I bought a brand new 2001 X-1, never titled, with 9 miles on odo. It had Race Kit installed. Race kit noted on Bill of sale as equipment dealer installed and covered by manufacturer's new bike warranty. No problem registering such bike for use on Virginia highways, no problem getting it inspected each year at Va. State Inspection stations. So, why is it illegal in Wisconsin? Or is it just bikes registered in Wisconsin they are busting?

I know Virginia is very strict on window tinting. Some LEOs carry tint meters. But I don't think they bust vehicles with Florida registrations that have heavily tinted glass.

It was just one incident in one specific region. Any of the states can start cracking down at any time they choose to, even Virginia.

How you ride is more important than what you ride or how your ride is modified.

i was up is the land of cheese, kringle and brandy last weekend- passed any number of leos, and had no difficulty at all --

these things run in cycles, most everywhere . . . like Mike sez, if ya ride safe and sane (while the uniformed representative of the local taxing body is in view), ya shouldn't have any trouble

sides, on a tuber (or even an XB), I'm thinkin it's the rare occifer that know what a stock can look like (so long as you ain't rattlin any windows)

Ok, so will somebody design a quiet performance pipe, PLEASE!

Yeah, I know...Stick with the OEM pipe and do some internal tweaking or resign yourself to buying a bike with the performance you want and leaving it stock. Boring!!!

Interesting...A recent survey I took for Cycle World was fishing for responses concerning quiet performance pipes.

Looks like I will be headed for the D&D site for more informantion.

Then a quiet pipe for D&D would probably roar like my Vance & Hines. LOL

I hate to say it, but I am quickly becoming more in favor of tickets for loud bikes. My Buell HAD 13:1 compression and race exhaust and I would wheel it out to the street, start it and idle out of the neighborhood. Meanwhile, over a dozen Harleys gun their engines driving down my street with no mufflers all night and day. One A-Hole is nice enough to wake my whole family up at 5:15 am every morning on his way to work! It is exactly this type of person that will get the law involved quickly and do further damage to the sport/hobby we all love. Every hobby has its jerks, its just too bad that they can spoil it for the rest of us.
