Whats the best way to strip the paint off an old Buell gas tank? How about decal removel? This is the older tak that could end up with the bubbling decals although it hasn't happened on this tank. I want to paint this tank Carbon black and put the newer style Buell decals on it. I would like to get them in white. Anybody have an idea where I can get those Buell tank decals? I would prefer the decals off of the 2000 models.

Mike, call auto paint and supply in Waukesha. They mixed all the paint for Buell in the past(at least that's what I'm told). You can also get the decals from hals of daves.

Any PPG dealer can mix this paint for you, probably some that aren't. I took mine down to bare plastic by sanding until it was all gone, then just following what Al had sent me turned out pretty good for a guy with no money. Not sure how different carbon black is from other blacks as I just used some cheap stuff made for chryslers and then put the onyx alloy over it for some artwork and stripes. I painted the wheels with black primer then cleared over them and they look exactly the same as the tank, bodywork.

When I stripped the S1W tank to put on my S1 I just used a small finish sander with fine paper. It took the stickers and everything off.

Be careful not to sand into the plastic as its a pain in the to spot puddy.

As for the paint I had it scanned by a local paint supplier and they matched it perfectly.

Is there a chemical stripper that is safe to use on the nylon tank?
