why did you buy a Muell instead of a crotch rocket?? I was asked this by my state DPS technician when he was servicing my shops dynamometor. First, I dont know if him calling my bike a Muell is a bad thing. I still dont know, I'm just going to take it as a compliment. Second, I didn't really know what to say. It caught me off guard, and made me think about it for a while. The first thing out of my mouth was, "Look at it...its beautiful" and then the second thing i said was, I dont need to go 180mph...my s2 has a sweet spot right around 80, and that works for me. Maybe I am an optimist...but besides being an awesome bike I also feel they may be a collectable one day. |

Buy the bike that makes you want to ride it, not for some future possible collector status..that being said I think the S1 is the only "mass produced" Buell that has potential for being a collectible bike. |

aww come on.... if they never make another sport/tourer then the S3 will DEFINATELY have collector value! Hell, even if they do make another touring model, the S3 should be considered collectible mostly cuz thats what i have, hehe

I have an S1 and it was only yesterday that someone offered to buy it. I told them "Hell NO" - I'd rather sell one of my ....!!!!! I like the answers from the top but mostly because its a fun bike to ride. Now another I saw recently was a KTM640 Super Motard thing that someone has brought onto the island. I think that would be an absolute blast to ride. |

There is simply no other bike that is as easy to go fast on. Everytime I ride my XB, I marvel at how well it handles and how easy it is to ride. |

There are so many reasons why I love Buells: Easy to work on, great sound, fun handling, different in every sense, but the most important thing is the Buell community is the greatest bunch of folks I have ever met!! |

The unique factor counts too, I'm not sure I'd ride a Buell if they were as thick as CBR600s are around here. Went fer a blast up to the local coffee/bike hangout yesterday. Must've been 75 bikes there, all the same stuff, guys talking 'bout the new fancy turn signals they got for their R6 to make it unique. Sure changes the topic fast when I show up on the Creature. They seem to go through three stages when encountering a race-kitted S1: 1. shock, fear. 2. painful realization that it's much cooler than a generic Suzukawahonamaha. 3. acceptance of #2, and enthusiastistic Q&A period. Wickedass handling and cranium-crushing torque don't hurt either... |

I thought it *was* a crotch rocket? That's news to me too. (I appreciate the mule status also tho. There's a shoehorn analogy to be had as well.) So many things appealing about it. When I'm on it, the feeling that floats to the top is "'THIS' is what I never knew I was waiting for!" |

I agree, thought I did buy a crotch rocket. Minus a full fairing, tell me the difference? Being a V-twin doesn't NOT make it a crotch rocket. Too me, it's simply a naked bike, which in a lot of cases is simply a crotch rocket without all of the excessive body panels. |

I still get asked... "Why does it sound like a Harley?" I suppose I can understand them... I do have a Force pipe. Sometimes I can't HEAR them... but I suppose I see the area of confusion. |

All i can say is, by me there are either Harley's (mostly dressers), crotch rockets (mostly mid-90's ninja's), and the occasional Vintage (guy down the street has a sweet Norton). I will be sitting at a light and never fail, if there are any bikes near me they pull up and questions ensu... Last year i was at a stop light and a Sherrif walked up to me from the opposite lane and 3 cars back, just to jaw drop for a few... if memory is clear, he wanted to get a XB and seeing my bike (being a tuber) convinced him.. don't ask me why.. but glad to be of help.... he accually wanted me to pull away as fast as I could to see if his dresser could keep up... well the front wheel didn't stay down, and seeing as his bike had a stage 3 kit, he almost kept up... but he followed me to my house, and we jabbed for 1/2 hour... heck of a nice guy. |

My reason for buying Buell can be traced to purchasing a XLCR in '79 and always wishing for something similar (V-twin, "sport" design) that actually motored, handled and stayed composed (and together). Got it all in the Buell. |

we are the bastage offspring of harleys and sportbikes. with our mothers good looks and our fathers grunt. we seemed to be disliked by both yet they seem slightly amused by us |

Calling them a "Muell" isn't a problem - this is the race logo I put on my airbox cover on the XB racebike:

The one difference I think our bikes has over the regular crotch rockets is the sound. Even the crotch rockets with an aftermarket can can't compete noise wise with my Jardine. I found out where the sportbikers hang out locally. A few times when I've driven by the area, I can see that they are trying to figure out what I'm driving because they know it's a sport bike but they also know it doesn't sound like one. |

A mule is a cross between a horse and a donkey. Think about it. . . . . . . . . . Harley engine, tweaked, hanging in a performance chassis. Still like that story told sometime back by someone on the site here who started up their Buell (I forget what model it was) in the garage and went into the house to put on their riding gear while the bike warmed up. When he came back out into the garage he found the Buell had walked itself all around the garage on its sidestand knocking stuff off walls and shelves all over the place. I guess that bike got a little impatient and wanted to get out of the stable and run some. I forget who it was, but they'll probable speak up shortly - a great story that I can still picture in my head. Zt, If you really want some answers you'll have to replace "crotch rocket" with "any other bike". I wasn't shopping for a crotch rocket when I got either one of my Buells. One is for sale so I can get something else, but I'm happy to keep them both until I get my price - no hurry at all. |

MikeJ, ever been to "Two Wheeled Tuesday" at Culvers? I went twice. And both times, when i went in to Culvers to get a bite to eat, had a crowd of people surrounding my S3T. 1st time it was some Harley guys, mumbling "a Buell bagger?", the 2nd time was some Triumph guys, asking, "Do they still make that?", when I said no, the replied, "Why NOT?" . <sigh>... I ask that myself |

My co worker, who has never heard of Buell motorcycles until he saw mine, always calls it a Mule on accident, since he is not familiar with the name. Its kinda funny and it almost works! |

Got it all in the Buell. I never actually purchased the XLCR, I was only 14 when I saw one in a magazine the first time. But that first glimpse ignited a fire for a booming Cafe Racer that stayed with me until I was 38 and finally got a Buell. Not the fastest motorcycle I've ever owned, but it covers all the bases I need covered. I love the dichotomy of the Old World engine with cutting edge running gear. This has got to be the same reason why Moto Guzzis still sell. |
