As a few of you know, I'm trying to do the Paris-Dakar race in 2006. Bob Bergman, a Canadian, did it in a more or less similar way this year. This is his story, and is a really interesting read...... Part 1, Part 2, Part 3. |

Peter, if you need backup crew, I'm a qualified mechanic & heavy truck licence holder, I also only work part time so I can swing the time off. Give me a shout if you need help. I'm only a day's drive/ride away from you. |

Peter: And that is about your dreams of the last twenty years: Seems me a nightmare. I dreamed in fact last night about Paris-Dakar. But hey: It was FUN. My road flew like water around obstacles. Dunes were climbed with much power and topped with speed, landing after a glide flight through the air, on the rear wheel with the feet on the steps, taking up the impetus of the landing of the front wheel. That last manoeuvre waked me up, while I pushed the foot board of our bed so hard, that I became launched against the head board. It is clear now, how you prepared yourself for that adventure since long: You arrived at a meeting point in December 1999, through hail and rain. Not so special. But: You had a mushroom like attachment, fixed on the left handlebar, to fit your, bowl like, bandaged hand with a couple of broken fingers. Clutch replaced to the right, next to the brake lever. And that you had you fixed yourself during the night before. If anybody has a chance to ride that trip out, you are. And even with enjoyment. Hans |
