holy crap, I'm looking at the rendering and I realize it has an index of refraction!
cool.
I almost never actually render anything myself. I wonder of proe does that too? probably. |

Dsergison, yup. That's the default settings. It takes about 15-30 seconds to render that on a 2.4GHZ P4. VX actually has some VERY cool, but clumbsy rendering options.
I added a bit of transparency to show the SHCS holes. |

Pretty amazing,
Meaning the transparency function. I've never used ProE, nor have I even seen it being used in person. I know what its’ capable of, just never used anything that high end. I'm quite familiar with raytracing programs, like Accurender, but only for AutoCAD and Microstation’s built in-house rendering program. Will ProE saveas a .DWG? If so, I sure would like to get a copy of that to screw around with. I’m sure ProE will create a .DXF, just not sure how much will be lost in the translation. Will take either. <grin> BTW, just curious, is there a hardware lock or some sort of dongle on ProE . Not trying to pirate anything. I’ve been a registered end-user of AutoCAD since December of 1984, version 2.0X.

Me again,
This is the sort of design I used to do. First image is a central plant (mechanical room, chiller, boiler, heat exchangers etc.).
The next couple are tools (piece's of equipment)in a semi-conductor facility. There are usually about 600 to 800 tools, plus their support equipment, which is located in the sub-fab (show below the tools in the images).
The spool sheets (isometric fabrication drawings) are then generated from the models.

Dsergison, there are TONS of attributes for individual faces, or whole "objects". Like adding texture maps, bump maps, etc...
 
I haven't even scratched the surface(pun intended) on renderings. VX comes with some pretty powerful tools to do this. As far as the software is concerned, it was quite a deal. Their full "end to end" suite cost us $2K last year during the IMTS show. It's normally $10K. This includes fully parametric/history based hybrid modeling, assembly, rendering, mold design, and 2 thru 5 axis CAM module. I'm quite happy with the software since we purchased it last year. |

Had to tweak it a little in Rhino. A few surfaces were missing and I had to punch a few holes. It wasn't done with solids was it? Here it is in Rhino. BTW, what does ProE cost per/station nowadays? Does it have a hardware lock or dongle?

Yup, it was done with solids. I don't use pro/e. I use VX(used to be called varimetrix.) www.vx.com
VX handles solids differently than almost anything else. It's a truely seemless modeler, and doesn't care if it's a disjointed/open solid, surface, or group of surfaces. It's really a joy to use.
Pro/E is cheaper than it used to be, and you can now buy a "personal" version.

I'm guessing PTC has learned that it's better to make $250, than nothing. It's quite easy to get a pirated version of Pro/E. |

Would you adopt me then ... then I can hang around your shop all day and learn something about motorcycles before I die. BTW, Dali be one of my favorites ... have a really nice hard bound large gallary/book of his work (he did to much LSD).

The Dali Museum is not far from my shop and you would be welcome to hang out(once the new building is up). We are a bit crowded at the moment. He11 I'll even let you work on something.
Remember those Dali silk shirts from the seventies....Yeah, my brothers thought they were so cool. |

I bought this puppy back in 72ish at the Louve in Paris, when there was a showing of his originals. I don't care for everything he did, actually most, but some are very impressive.
Pammy, thanks for the offer. I'd like to design a corner carving/cutting ridding lawn mower powered by a Buell, with a double underslung shock.

One of these days, I am going to visit the Louvre. It is on my list of things to do.
Blake, did you have one of those silk shirts and the platform shoes....I almost forgot about those.
Jim, a guy came in my shop wanting us to build an engine for a lawn mower. It was going to be run in some land speed record attempt for the Guinness book of world records or some crazy thing. Thing was...the blades had to be turning (as if mowing grass) while the run was attempted. I had to let that opportunity pass. Drag racing mowers has been going on a long time. Road racing them might be a new concept. |
