What a clown, lets pass a car on the outside in gravel.

Good thing he was wearing all the gear or he would have been seriously messed up.

Great joy, followed by heartache.
When it was "whoo hoo, yeah" did they think there would be a 'oh my god dude" shortly after?
God looks after fools.

Bet that hurt. There's a reason why I don't go hard when there's cars around. That's one of them. To much chance. Just back off, stay behind the car, and pass when it's safe. Not worth fooling around cars, or going around them like he did.

The cool thing in that video was that he is laughing at the end of it. Not to make light of the situation but hey- at least he was geared up and I bet he is in his garage right now getting that RR back together for next weekend.

I dont think the car had much to do with that one- the car did not appear to change its line- the gravel and his (strange) choice to ride in it was the bad part. That said I never pass on the right, or in a turn with rare and excusable exceptions of course.

It was a four lane road until that corner. I think he thought he had a full lane to ride in. (Which means that he wasn't watching the signs to see the "lane ends" sign.) Between taking off a limb on that barrier or getting run over by the car, he's a very lucky man.

Clown is too nice a word Dyna. You said it Cataract. I had a nice run through the mountains today except for the butterflies almost being thick enough to knock me off the bike. Gave all the cars I came up on a bit of time and EVERY one of them pulled over to let me by before the next good place to pass. Got to hit all the best curves with nothing ahead of me. Waived at every one of them. Just too cool.

The guy running the camera must be doing at least 100d/pm ("dudes" per minute) I think it's a direct link to their IQs.

"It was a four lane road until that corner. I think he thought he had a full lane to ride in."

The video shows him railing the same corner before his accident. He knew.

Its not as if he didn't know it changed into one lane, he'd only just previously ran the corner, bloody idiot, but its good he didn't get hurt.

Maybe they should not be video taping knee dragging on a public road with traffic, or how about never passing on the right! I have never done it at speed(long lines of traffic at stop lights to turn right) but never while the other cars are moving. Yes in my profile I am dragging knee but notice the lack of cages!

I'd love to know what he was thinking.

If he just came charging into the corner without being able to see the car and passing on the right was a last-second panic move I would understand. It would still be stupid, but I would at least understand why he went to the outside rather than having to tighten his line to go inside the car and potentially low-side under the car. In the video you can clearly see that he wasn't completely committed to that line/speed when the car became visible on camera, meaning he was able to see the car and had time to assess the situation before deciding to pass on the right. I'd love to know what the plan was.

I'd suggest he didn't have a plan, was just flowing for the camera and wasn't totally thinking. Dropping to the inside would have put him into oncoming traffic, and there seemed to be a bit of traffic on that day. Additionally the bikes all parked on the inside shoulder of the corner are just as stupid in my opinion since parking there would cause traffic to swing wide around them in either direction, and also would cause drivers and other riders to focus on the bikes parked on the corner instead of focusing on making the corner.

Just my opinion for whatever it's worth. But it does remind me of some of the So.Calif. mountain/canyon roads and behaviors.

He was lucky the cager didn't panic when he saw/heard him coming! The cage and the rail not a good thing.

Looked to me like frog boiling. When he was passing the car, he had plenty of room. Then less plenty. Then less plenty. Then less plenty. Meanwhile, he was cranked over eating 99% of his traction pie, so he really could not brake. If he straightened up to brake, he would have run off the road.

So he just kept doing the only line that was an option, until he ran out of pavement.

Good reason to always keep a lot more margin then you think you might ever need. Otherwise, by the time you recognize the trap, you might already be mathematically eliminated.

What a moron!!!! regardless of what he knew about that corner, it was a public road!! Reepie says "So he just kept doing the only line that was an option..." His best option was NOT to treat the public road like a race track... IMO....

Always have a "plan B" is one of the rules of defensive driving, whether in a cage or on a bike. A lane to move into, a yard to drive up on...
Admitted, I have had times when "plan B" was the on-coming lane or the shoulder and I try not to do that too often! That bozo had NO back-up plan.
I didn't notice that the first clip was the same corner. Guess that's why I'm always getting lost.

You pull that idiotic move on me, you get the opportunity to whip my . The ambulance comes for one of us. Take it to the track, or use lookouts on a lonely road. Anything else is endangering others, and there is NO EXCUSE for that.
