When you going?
I have a guy at work that drives that trip a few times a year. He will know some good roads.

How much time do you have? If you stay north on 70 it's pretty in the mountains and you will go through some tunnels. If you go south through Montrose, Gunnison, Salida to Canon City it's all curves. Those are some cool towns to stop at and look around. I have gone rafting in Buena Vista just north of Salida if you are into that.

Just about any route will suffice and deliver a great ride. Even I-70 through Colorado is considered the finest stretch of interstate in the country... though I wouldn't recommend it versus other alternatives. Get out the map and consider Hwy 40 through northern Colorado then dipping south, or Hwy 50 from Grand Junction. Really, no route will disappoint.

BTW, you will be taking a chance with snow in the high country during that travel window. There's no way to get to the Springs from SLC through Colorado without traversing mountain passes... and April/May are moist months.
