New BMW Power Cup model on display at Barcelona
News, 03/07/06

For 2005 the BMW Motorrad Power Cup will bring extra action on the European rounds of the MotoGP World Championship. Top-flight riders and the occasional star name will do battle on the new K 1200 R bikes, one of which is on display this weekend at the Catalunya circuit at the MotoGP official test.

The Power Cup machine will be the brand new naked BMW K 1200 R with a rousing four cylinder 175bhp and a pit-lane weight of 230 kg. The series will kick-off at Le Mans, and will continue with rounds at Mugello, Assen, Donington Park, Sachsenring and Brno, before ending at the same time as the MotoGP World Championship, at Valencia.

BMW is also involved in MotoGP by supplying the official cars of MotoGP, including the recently launched M6 and the all new M5, both with the stunning 507bhp V10 engine mounted under the bonnet. The rest of the fleet will be made up of 330i Touring as the Medical Car, a 750i for the Race Director, a 545i Touring for the Safety Officer and X5 4.4i for the Steward.

There will also be a brand new BMW 1 Series on offer this weekend for the fastest rider of the BMW Award opening round. Loris Capirossi and Valentino Rossi have driven away the latest BMW models from the Montmeló track in the last two years.

When are these supposed to make it to this side of the Atlantic? That naked bike is pretty sweet lookin. And what's the deal with their 167hp superbike? I've read that test riders weren't too impressed with the power.
