I decided today at Daytona to have a bit of fun with the other offerings from Buell. Namely, all of them except the 9S/R. (Own the XB9SX so no need.)

Anyways, I started with the Blast. I must say, that bike is a light little beast. It is a bit down on power but it's just soooooooooo easy to flip in the corners. I think that would be a fun bike to get to play with. Or to do some crazy engine mods to make it into a sleeper 600 killer.

Next I went with the XB12cg. I'm a big guy so for me, that was a mistake. The seat made it feel like I would never be able to have kids (not that I want any, but I would like my boys to still work). The bike sits really low, the handling is good on it and the power that the 12 offers is nuts. I gotta say, that low end grunt makes me wish I got a 12 over the 9 now.

I then moved onto the XB12S. Must better in comfort. Seat was a big hard but nothing a Corbin can't fix, or the 9SX seat. Anyways, this was a very spirited ride we went on so I got to try out this bike for all she's worth. In the corners, just as stable as my 9SX. The only difference is you have a lot more power available. That 12 engine does wonders in letting you twist the throttle and power out of the corners, thereby embarrassing (or pissing off) the jap riders who I went around. The guy riding behind me on the 12R watched me do it and his comment when he saw me start to do it was, "oh , I gotta get me some of this." (The guy was also an owner of the X1. He fell in love with the XB12R and was talking about how he would buy one.) Anyways, he told me he heard both riders on the jap bikes start to drop gears and rev up to catch me. Sadly, they couldn't and I got to far ahead. Plus, the guy on the XB12R was passing them. So, they gave up and backed up. We got back to the demo place and I watched as the jap riders passed giving me some dirty looks. The XB12S is very comfy for long rides and the bars give you some good leverage on the steering.

The XB12R was my last one. (By this time the demo team wondered if I was ever going to stop. ) The XB12R is perfect for corner riding. The seating position certainly gives you the feeling of sport riding and the confidence to do it. Power is the same as the 12S. Not much more to say. I want the black XB12R. That was my favorite out of all of them. I wish I could have passed more jap riders though. Sadly there weren't any. Also, early on when I was testing the Blast, there was another guy in our group who was really into the XB12R. He rides a Suzuki now but was talking how he wants to get an XB12R. After the ride he was big time into it. I told everyone I talked to there to come to this site for all the info they can get on these bikes. Hopefully we'll have some new members soon.

Anyways, the demo team seemed to like how I passed them. Along with the one who was in the back of the group on the demo ride. I'm only a bit crazy about these bikes, you know.....

that sounds awesome! i can't believe i did'nt make the time to do a demo at laconia last year, i think i may have missed it on purpose tho because i know if i got on a new 12r i'd have a hard time giving it back! i think unless i could afford a new one i probably would only try one at a demo tent, i would'nt want to waste a sales rep.s time on a test ride knowing i can't get one right now. but hey, who knows maybe i'll have a good summer working hard saving $. i'm going to make it a point to check out the next demo event however, sounds like lots of fun!

I can't afford a new bike, but I had no problem with Dave letting me testride his new 12R with the race kit!

with race kit indeed! what's that on the new models ecm, filter and who's exhaust, do they still do the buell race (supertrapp)? i wonder what kind of numbers a race kitted 12r puts out at the rear wheel, i bet it's a blast! i mean a firebolt, hehe

I ride an M2 and the two things I noticed most were the increased power, and the quicker throttle response. The fuel injection was so quick when you hit the gas.

tripp, do all the demo rides you can. you can flog the demo bikes and your bike won't be jealous. anyway, one rarely has the chance to ride and compare different models back to back. great fun.
ride safe,
tim

Actually, the demo team was starting to wonder if I'd ever get off their bikes.

Was kinda nice being able to flog the heck out of those bikes. Certainly makes me want to get a 12 now.

I got in on that action last year when they were giving the back packs away. Much fun, it did make me wish that I had more cash though, can't wait till they do it again in this area, will probably try a 9r though as I think with a bit of tinkering they would be a hell of lot of fun to hit some track days with.
