Good point Reepi...

They have NASCAR on Fox too... I don't get it.

Is there camera coverage at FUSA? Anyone know the organizing body of FUSA? If so, maybe someone should tell him that he needs to approach SPEED and ask them about it. I mean heck, they play backwoods circle track racing on 1/4 mile ovals, and I think that sort of thing is EXACTLY what would attract the crowd they need in order to save Two Wheel Tuesday...

Maybe the AMA has some sort of "Exclusive" deal with TV coverage in the US? That would me off...

"Shawn was terribly disappointed, because he felt he would have been very competitive."

Me too : ).

Get well Shawn...

Oh and -

"It definitely appears that there will not be any Buells in the 200."

Any idea how Erik feels about that? Just curious...

they dont have it in their mind and the worst not in their heart.

This is an inacurate statement. No body or no company has more heart than Buell, thye just pain don't have the money. Every dollar they spend has to be earned.

I can't wait for Laguna Seca, if MOTOsczle does good at the MOTOGP maybe even win.

This goof will be lucky to be allowed to practice. He doesn't have a snowballs chance of being fast enough to qualify even if they would let him in and that is very unlikely

I am pretty sure he thinks it sucks just like the rest of us do. But he does have bigger fish to fry than one race.

I am pulling for Shawn to recover well, really tough break.

Anony- thanks for the reply. That changes my plan for Saturday. I'm still going to ride 500+ miles down there on Friday and ride 500+ miles back on Sunday, I'll just fill the time in between a bit differently.

Do we know if Erik will be in Daytona? If so, I'd like to ask him to sign my Firebolt.

Thanks again,

One of the channels carried a FUSA event at Pocono. It beat out all of the compettion on the Sunday it aired, but Clear Channel apparently tried to push it and the deal fell apart. Big money and big decisions. Beyond my brain power but sad.

>>>>But he does have bigger fish to fry than one race.

That is an accurate statement.

Disappointing, in terms of this weekends entertainment, but the way the planets have aligned, I'd be willing to bet, bodes well for the long term health and survival of Buell.

I'd be buying my tickets for next years 200.

The good Elves at Buell are, despite the instant disappointment, intently focused on doing something incredible....making a profit in the business of designing, developing and selling retail motorcycles.

This, good friends, is what Buell does.

Period.

If it can't be done soundly, all else is for naught....relegated to hobby.

The "almost ran" at Daytona tells me some of the pieces to the puzzle have been pushed near to, but not into, the positions they need to be. Shawn, with his considerable talent, would likely have done well and has the talent to "fake" those last couple pieces with skill and experience.

Me?

My call is that by this time next year, Buell would have proven they are more than a "Harley Corporate Hobby" by proving the business model. During that time, and with the tap being oiled by those events, the race program (you bet there is one) will have been able to move those pieces where they belong.

Jot this down.

Buell will run and have a very visible presence in the 2006 Daytona 200.

By the way, I can only guess, but ANYTIME Erik Buell misses a race, be it a foot race, snowmobile race (Lord, save this man from himself) or motorcycle race...he's not a happy camper.

Erik does not race to win. He does everything to win, racing just draws more attention.

I'm sure it won't stop the non-sensical ranting at all... But it's always nice to hear "how Court puts it", and Dave's mention of bigger fish is indeed spot on. I'm alright with missing Buells at Daytona. I'll still be standing in my living room yelling GO BUELL at the top of my lungs come the first race day. I sure wish there was FUSA coverage...

I think a bunch of people at Buell and even more so, Harley, should have the decency to commit honorable seppiku over the total lack of Buells in the 200. This is what comes of being cheap as hell, and putting all of your eggs in one basket. Yes, I've read all of the lame excuses above, but they don't make me feel one bit better, and they shouldn't for the rest of you either.

To think of all the work done over the winter to field a competitive bike, all for nothing. None of the other races of the season will have anywhere near the prestige of the 200. Now they say, wait until next year. That's what they said last year when they didn't appear. Well, I'll tell you what, I'm not holding my breath. No doubt they will fumble it away again. Pathetic!

First - Please try to see the forest for the trees.

Second - Learn to spell.

"No doubt they will fumble it away again. Pathetic!"

Who fumbled anything? Maybe you just don't have any understanding of the sport that's called racing (among other things apparently). What cost us the chance to watch a Buell gloriously compete in the 200 was called a "racing incident". No more, no less... and to say that either or both of two racers who were competing for a win "fumbled" anything is quite dis-honourable.

OooooK guys. Deep breath please. It is after all only motorcycles and racing we're discussing

'cause we are discussing ... right? Exchanging points of view in order to be better informed about other folks' opinions ... right? We're not going to stoop to name calling and other such impolite (and against board policy btw.) behavior ... right? 'cause we're more interested in getting to know each others opinions than in a warped sense of "winning" a verbal slug fest ... right?

Henrik
(just to clarify: board politeness policy extends to people who are not on Badweb and/or for various reasons are not able to defend themselves here. Putting peoples personal qualities, intents etc. in question - especially when you have nothing to back it up is a no-no as well. This includes but is not limited to questioning peoples "heart" "honor" etc.)

I have to agree with he dude above, Prestige.
people talk about this AMA, FUSA, excuse my ignorance.
I might be wrong but it sounds like this races are like highschool football compared to the NFL.
isn't MOTO GP the ultimate. Can a BUELL compete in a MOTO GP. MOTOSCZL MOTORCYCLES are doing the right thing a believe in Racing at Laguna Seca for their debut, are there any BUELL teams racing there! I think if MOTOSCZL is succesful, its going to take a alot of BUELL owners away from BUELL. There is also FISCHER Sportbikes now coming out.
he chase is ON.

Buell2001b, Moto GP is for non production bikes only. V5's and stuff like that. If a engineer can dream it, that's where it races. 200-250hp seriously tech, seriously fast. They are faster than formula 1 cars when they have run the same track. Multi million dollar commitment.

So Buell should start racing MotoGP just because somebody else is, even though it would provide no discernable benefit for Buell to do so?

Many riders ride AMA and FUSA. AMA is considered the top USA racing because factory owned teams run AMA. This statement could open a whole can of opinion though.

I've already got a $100 dollar bet going that the Motocyxz will never turn a wheel in a MotoGP race. He and Fischer and Roehrich are all just hustlers looking for a rich fool to part from his money, and none of them are getting any takers. People learned their lesson after the E-H and Indian debacles.

And Court, I appreciate the 'optimist' comments from someone that understands so little about my motives.I started riding in 1965, back when Harley was the king of the performance market. I was one of the loudest to cheer at Harley's last victory at Daytona with Cal Rayborn riding, I think it was '68 or '69. When Harley first showed the XLCR I saw it as the bike of my dreams, and I was crushed when it didn't sell, even though it allowed me to get one cheap.

I've never replaced it mostly because I've been waiting for Harley to make something I'd like better, pretty much in vain. The Buells are the closest thing, and I've cheered them on since they first appeared. But the early ones had teething problems, and the XBs don't address the fact I can only afford one bike to do everything, including long distance travel. I don't want a water-cooled model for myself, I prefer the Sportster based engine. I just think they need one in the line-up. As for me,just give me a Buell with a rear-end you can hang luggage on.

Meanwhile Harley has gone from rags to riches selling cruisers. I don't grudge them that, one has to follow the money, even if it does mean that real, wrench-spinning Harley riders have been largely replaced by Rubbie posers. Yes, I am an old-school Harley rider, and no, I don't think much of most of the people who ride them now, but that's life.

But those that question my patience, or my right to criticize, should realize this. On other boards, no one goes farther or tries harder to defend Buell and Harley against the legions of critics out there that seem to hate them. On line and in person, I have exerted so much time and energy defending them that I have been asked how much Harley/Buell pays me not once but many times.

Meanwhile, I have seen Harley go in a direction that has been wildly successful for them, but a huge disappointment to me, as I would not own a cruiser on a bet. Now they are flush with money after 19 YEARS of record profits. Surely they can afford to loose a little money now to insure Buell's future, but NOOO.

SO, you say I'm impatient. Do you think you could wait for 35 years and not be just a little bit impatient? Now they say, OK, let's just wait another year. Easy enough for those who weren't even born yet the last time they won the 200, but as for me, I've been waiting for one LONG damn time.

so EXCUSE ME if my patience is beginning to wear a little thin.

So far I found this...

Mugello
Seti Gibernau - 1:51.133
Rubens Barichello - 1:18.7

Both Mugello and Suzuka are pretty much "grip" tracks (as opposed to something like Monza). Suzuka does indeed have three long "straights" that would favor the MotoGP bike, but not by much...
