When I had my zx6-r I had no problem buying tires online and taking them to a local independent shop to get them put on, same thing when I put ordered my D&D pipe.. If I ordered stuff online for my buell can I take it to a dealer to have them put it on? Or do I need to order everything thur the specific dealer? Thanks | ||

I've never heard of anybody having a problem, but I guess theres probably a dealership out there that wouldn't do it. Check with the dealer, but chances are there won't be a problem. | ||

If its a case of tires that you want changed, pull the rims yourself, and find an indy shop that will install them for less. MOST (all in my area) HD/Buell dealers charge 1 hour for a tire change off the bike, PER TIRE. | ||

Yea, but call ahead. I took my bike to the metric shop for mounting and the GM said to his cronies after the bike was already on the lift, "Get that thing outa here, we don't work on those..." Talk about pissed off! I'll never recommend Wild West MS to anyone! Anyway, call ahead to save possible headaches. | ||

Depends on the shop. My local HD will not mount a tire unless you buy it through them. At least on of the local general shops will not unless, bought through them. Thankfully I got a local small shop that will do it. Some shops are citing insurance problems/lawsuits for stopping. Me, I think it is the mark-up they are losing. | ||

When i replaced the tires on my bike, the local HD shop gave me a bunch of •••• and a 10 minute lecture when i asked if they would mount them. They wanted to keep the tires for a week to "inspect" them and were going to charge me $100 to do it. Naturally, i told them to •••• off and took it to a local motorcyle junkyard/shop and had them mounted for $20 each. | ||

It all depends on the dealer. Harley service normally varies from incompetent to downright hostile, with a few notable exceptions. I do what wycked does: pull the rims, take them to a local race shop, get them mounted and dynamically balanced. I still get ripped off to the tune of $50 per wheel, but at least the job gets done right. Lots of members report paying half of that. The best way to enjoy your Buell is to: 1. Stay out of any Harley shop that is not a Buell specialists: there are only about 20 of those in the whole country. 2. Order the shop manual and all your parts from Daves, one of our sponsors at Appleton HD 3. Do as much of the work yourself as you can: with the Buell, that usually isn't very much more than changing the oil and filter every 2500 miles, and the tires at every 2500 to 4500 depending on tires and riding style.( Of course many of the members, myself included, just aren't happy until they have made about 25 mods to their beloved steed:-) | ||

Yeah, depends on the dealer. I've had the same problem in the past with tires for my car. While I understand the shops stance on, "You didn't buy it from us. Fine, we aren't going to mount it." It's that kind of mentality that is going to lose them even more business. Now, not only have they lost my merchandise business due to overpriced tires, but now they've also lost my service business due to we won't work for you mentality. | ||

When I was in Albuquerque last Sept. and needed a new rear tire, they tagged me for $260. I couldn't complain too much since they did get me in right away. I usually do my own for about $120. | ||

We do it here as long as it's not an oversize tire. They've had too many issues with people trying big tires on their Harleys (even after being warned that it's no bolt-on). It's a 1/2 hour charge for each. | ||

Heck, I just buy tires where I get a discount on the tires and either free installation or a deep discount on it. Shop around before the need arises, you may be glad you did. Too bad this doesn't apply to the average touring rider. However, with a network of BWB Buddies, I don't see where it would be much of a challenge. | ||

a six inch C- clamp, bowl of soapy water, and a pair of cheepo tire irons makes quick work of my XB tire changes.i use a six inch long peice of wood under the muffler to hold the wheel off the floor. takes about half an hour to do each wheel. | ||

Found a BMW service shop (not a dealership) that mounted and balanced for $46 the pair. Pirelli Syncs from American Tire $210 and I am good to go. No snot nosed kid changing tires here it was a real anal rententive BMW mechanic changing my tires!  Thought of Jerseyguy and took it easy on the new skins. | ||

I just found a place in The Fox Valley (WI) that will do fre mounting and balancing of tires if you bring in the rims and buy tires from them! | ||

Cycle Gear has awesome prices for off the bike tire mounting, like $15.00. They gladly handle Buell wheels and balancing is included. The company is employee owned and they have the best customer service I have ever seen in a chain store. Highly recommended. | ||

I took mine to a local shop, I dropped my wheels of Friday and won't get them till Tuesday, but 131 for new pirellis and to have them mounted and balanced.......local guy owns it, and going there and paying a buck extra per quart of oil for the last 6 months paid off, since he gave me 10% off the front and almost 20% off the rear, and mounted them for free.  That's what I'd do, find someone who owns a little place locally, buy some crap occasionally so they recognize you, and they'll treat you right when you come in. | ||

That may be, but dealers are dealers, and I know a guy with a BMW that got a new engine because some anal retentive BMW mechanic never quite got around to putting the coolant back in before returning the bike to the owner. | ||

Evaddave, Can you give me the location? State, City and street or the area, I can take a look at the base stations in the surrounding areas tomm am and see what the traffic levels are or if we may have lost coverage there for some reason. If we have never had coverage there then theres nothing I can really do unless we get tons of complaints or requests for coverage, Cingular wont put a base station out there if theres not enough users, in areas like that we usually have an agreement with other wireless carriers. | ||

I have both Verizon and Nextel phones in New York City. Nextel works about 60% of the time only. Verizon has some very quirky spots, say for instance passing Wagner College on Howard Avenue, where it just disappears. Thank you Motorola for allowing me to circumvent the cell phone system. Got1, You've probably opened it up telling folks who you work for I've got AT & T, been pretty happy with them for the last four or five years. I hope it stays the same with the merger. I worked for Pagenet when they merged with Arch wireless, had service through them too, got fed up with trying to explain how to fix things since I couldn't service my own equipment. Canceled service, have started again but now there is another merge. Interfacing software can be havok I guess. DBird How do you like the folks at South Valley? I get better service from SLHD and buy parts from either but it hasn't been the same since Ronnie left (IMHOP). Decent folks, just not very excited about the Buell it seems. -Mike | ||

Toomanytoys, I will have to check when I go to my shop this weekend. I know they have a website, but I haven't been there yet. I just read about this place and haven't used them yet, but I will deffinatly call them when I am due again. My last tire change was at the Torque Center. 1 day turnaround they did a good job, no scratches on my PM rims. | ||

Mike - The South Valley folks are OK but I did have to use DaveS for the CityX handguards. I've only had to use the service dept. 2 times but they were OK in that area. DBird | ||

Court - I am astounded by the deadspots here in New York City. I see Jack Bauer of television's 24 getting reception deep in the Mexican desert, and I can't get a AT&T wireless signal on the west side highway. My nextel is always a toss up too. |
