Anybody interested in doing our own Homecoming in 2002? It may not be the biggest and baddest Homecoming ever, but it would be our own. We wouldn't even have to be politically correct in our "Events"  I live in the Milwaukee area and was able to attend my first Homecoming this year. Lots of people that I talked to there said that Homecoming was one of there favorite events. I thoroughly enjoyed myself as well, and would really like to do it all again. I'm sure that some of you feel the same. I can sort of understand some of the reasoning behind the decision, but isn't there just something about going "HOME"? So what do you think? I think with at least three BRAG clubs in Wisconsin that we could get something going. I really don't know what, but there's only one way to find out. Jerry | ||

Jerry: Last year's Thunder in the Mountains event grew out just such a discussion here. When it was announced (supposed?) that Homecoming 2001 was to be run concurrently with a HOG event as well as over a holiday weekend many BWBers started thinking of alternatives. The primary component would be a selfless, energetic and driven individual(s) willing to mirror the effort put into the TIM event by Kim and Cheryl Beres, Phil Poindexter, et al. Jerry, Maybe plan the date around the track day at Road America (June 12th)? I'm a fellow cheesehead that would help to organize an unofficial homecoming. The biggest problem I foresee is getting good hotel rates. If the response looks promising, lets get together for more planning. On a side note, I'm heading to France for a Buell tour in June (see Buell-Tours.de for more info). The price is good if there are any Buell riders interested. Mennis | ||

Don, Thanks again for the guided tour of the Rocky Mountain Nat Forest. It was really fun following you through the twisties. I know IAMike enjoyed it also. Is there a TIM this year? If there is a TITM again I think I'll go there first instead of planning it for the return leg of my journeys. Maybe that way I'll get there on time and still have a bike with me to ride. Jerry, I'll see if I can find a full page calender (unless you already have one) to plot all the currently known events on. Then add in stuff like RoadAmerica or other things (like maybe the HOGfest) for people to plan around. It also might be interesting to maybe plan it around some campsiteable place with motels nearby. Look at what the internet "Meet in the Middle" has turned into where they pretty much take over a campground someplace (I think one of the Iowa or KansasCity or Illinois people attends it each year). Brad: I was just glad to be along for the ride, it was a pleasure to ride with you guys. I have been flying so far below the radar since TIM that if there has been any word on next year I probably would not have heard it. The recent mention of last year's gathering got me thinking about it to the point where I called Kim a few minutes ago. Here is what I learned. Kim, Cheryl and a few others are already involved in the initial planning stages of next summer's event. The date has not yet been decided and even the name may be up for discussion. It will be based out of Breckenridge as before. So stay tuned as I suspect there will be more definate news posted in the next month. Don | ||

Brad, Keep the place that I stayed in mind. The little unit I was in had 3 regular beds and 3 sofa beds. The condo's would be more convenient to town though. I'm confused, two current threads with overlapping conversation subjects. Oh well, you'll figure it out. Hey, one thing about visiting Wisconsin is that the mudslide risk is very low. So what is a good time for people? I'm thinking June, July, or August. I'm taking a week off in June to do some riding in Northern Wisconsin("UP Nort"), but any other time works for me. Lake Bueller- Your in the hotel biz aren't you? Of course Lake Geneva is booked solid pretty much all summer. Any ideas? How about dealership sponsorships? Just bouncing ideas out there. Jerry | ||

I think the best bet for a "host hotel" would be to find a smaller place with 40-60 rooms. The biggest problems I see are: 1) Location 2) Deposit (who wants to put out their own $$$) 3) Dates I personally would like to get more north and west of the Lake Geneva or Milwaukee area. Maybe something around the Dells, LaCrosse or Madison? We should be able to get better rates in a more suburban area (less tourist traffic). I would like this event to be more like the Colorado trip or Deal's Gap. Focus more riding and less on the bulls*@t. Would there be a need for a "formal" dinner? It's hard to find a place for a good price on a Saturday (too much wedding business). I'll be coming to Milwaukee next Sunday to watch the Packer's march toward the Super Bowl. possibilites Janesville, about 30-45 minutes from East Troy, About 30 minutes from really nice riding. Right on I-90 so easy to get to. Pretty many hotel rooms, and not a tourist town so should have some really good rates. Buell dealer in town. It is a working class town, big GM plant so has a lot of working class bars, pool halls, etc. Has some tough areas also but nothing seriously dangerous. Whitewater, closer to the factory but farther from really good riding. college town so has some nice bars. Probably not a real high tolerance for holiganism, don't know about rooms New Glarus, 1 + from the Factory, nice ride though, Right in the middle of some real nice riding. tourist town with pretty many rooms in town and nearby. Also many small towns within 15 minutes often with a small mom and pop motel. Dave | ||

Or how about the LaCrosse area. There's Sauk Buell, then another Buell logo'd H-D shop up the river a piece in Minnesota. Close to a state park campground for the campers. A H-D shop in town to get oil from . Just another idea. And almost doable as a day-trip destination for the local folks. But it would be nice to hover around the factory area for any possible tours or 2003 model previews. |
